Steering Gear Box Problems of Dodge Intrepid

Recall campaign 03v527000 concerning steering gear failure. The consumer was still having the same problem after recall repairs were done. The problem was not resolved.

When the steering wheel was turned to the right, vehicle went to the left. Upon lifting the hood consumer noticed that the steering rod was hanging down off the gear box, and a sheared bolt was laying in the engine compartment that was cut in half. Vehicle was towed to the dealership, who indicated that gear box was in pieces and needed to be replaced.

The day after we had gotten new tires put on and aligned on our 2000 Dodge Intrepid the car pulled strongly to the right and made loud sounds on turns. Took it to the dealer and had him look at it and said steering gear had dropped and had to be replaced. Replaced the steering gear and did an alignment to the turn of $1400. Went to the dealer in the first place to get seat fixed on free recall and ended up spending over $1800 dollars there. Noticed lots of complaints about steering on mycarstats - is this a mfg defect that should be covered?.

There was rattling in front end and steering felt loose. Dealer determined gear box needed to be replaced.

Steering wheel had a lot of play in it. Consumer heard a rattle sound underneath the hood on driver's side. Vehicle was taken to dealer. Dealer told consumer that steering gear box was unsafe , and not to drive vehicle until steering gear was fixed.

Defective steering gearbox bushings. Bushings went defective after 70,000 miles, most of which were highway miles. Have noticed knock when first starting to turn wheel progressively getting worse. Have called manufacturer who stated that it is not a defect in workmanship. It is a defect in workmanship.

Gear shift control cable-gear selector cable.

After having about 40-50% play in the steering wheel, I took it to the dealer. They told me that the steering gear box needs to be replaced. This is not a normal wear and tear item, and the dealer and Dodge don't acknowledge a problem. Dodge offered to give me a 50% discount on repairs, but I feel it is a defect that should be covered 100%. On.

There is a bolt loose in the steering gear, causing the tires to wear. Also causing the driver to lose control. Dealer has not seen vehicle.
