I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a persistent engine misfire in my 2014 Dodge Journey awd, which I believe may pose a safety risk to my family, myself, other drivers, and is not explained by regular maintenance and care. Since I first purchased the vehicle, I have performed all necessary maintenance and adhered to the recommended service intervals. However, despite these precautions, the engine has experienced consistent misfires. The misfires are particularly noticeable when I attempt to accelerate, whether when speeding up or turning. This issue has caused a noticeable hesitation in power delivery, which has created dangerous situations while merging onto highways or trying to maintain speed during turns. I have taken the vehicle to multiple certified mechanics and dealerships, but they have been unable to provide a clear cause for the engine misfires. The misfires have not been resolved with routine maintenance or repairs. This issue has persisted for several months and continues to affect the vehicle's performance, causing slow acceleration and hesitation, which increases the risk of accidents or collisions in certain driving situations. Given the nature of this issue and its potential impact on vehicle safety, I am concerned that this problem may be more widespread and may require further investigation by the national highway traffic safety administration. I would appreciate it if your agency could look into this matter and assess whether this issue could be a design flaw, manufacturing defect, or an undiscovered safety hazard. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and any guidance or steps that can be taken to address this issue.
My complaint is I just had an oil change which I have done every 3000 miles since I own this car. I took car in December 9th for an oil change and after, the car started leaking oil all over. I took it back to richlonn's service which indicated that the cooler/oil filter housing was cracked, it cost me $1,382. 93 to repair. The cooler/filter housing is located above exhaust manifold which had to be removed to replace, I think this is a fire hazard, not only that, I found out, Chrysler has had problems with these plastic housings, over the years did they withhold information from the NHTSA. ? if you check amazon just look at the number of people that had to replace these units. I'm [xxx], driving [xxx] years all the cars that I owned I never heard of a oil housing cracking. I just check with amazon, but if you look into it at other service centers you will see how many have been repaired! I think Chrysler should be responsible for the repairs, I am also writing to Chrysler about this. Thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6.
When trying to start the car in the past every now in then I would get a one click and no start I tried to shift into neutral and nothing the same , I played with the button by turning g off and back on a few time and it would start and it started to get harder to get it to start and now it will only click and no start , I replaced the battery and starter was checked out and is good all battery ends are new and new battery cables , I know google is no auto mechanic but the post I have read there is a lot of Dodge Journeys that has this issue when I called Dodge I was told to bring it in and I will be charged , also about every 4th time I hit the door locks from the door as soon as the door shuts the horn beeps 3 times and all the doors unlock , need help please from what I am understanding it's something to do with the anti theft or the neutral safety switch inside the transmission ,.
I bought this car used but it only had 26340 on it and now it is almost to 30000. When driving it sounds as though the motor is knocking, but the oil is fine when checked on. It seems to have difficulty changing gears, sometimes way to fast and it whines other times it struggles to shift gears. Rpms are not steady they are bouncing around high love. When it does get to speed it feels as though the brakes are being appflied. At times the motorwhines because, the gear is to low it starts to get loud and become very hesitant when shifting to the higher gears. Sometimes it feels like the motor or something is going to come offf. There is a bunch of rattling going on . When I do park and turn it off, shortly after it sounds as if there is something running around inside the motor area. I was told it runs great and haven't even put 3000 miles on it. I think it's going to blow up or just die.
Car just shut off out of nowhere but turned back on when I put it in park and started it.
The contact’s son owns a 2014 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact then stated that on numerous occasions after the vehicle stalled, the vehicle needed to be jumpstarted each time he turned off the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that he was unable to turn off the headlamps and the key fob failed to operate. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that water prevented the fuel from entering the fuel pump and the fuel injector and an unknown engine component needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that all the recalls were previously performed, and no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 110,400.
While I was driving the car suddenly lost power steering and acceleration, the bolts broke off from the pulley and the serpentine belt came off while driving down a busy street.
The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the failure recurred two days later. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to a different dealer where the failure was undetermined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 151,978.
Tipm caused several issues, blown motor, and now is in the dealership shop for an alternator, battery, ground strap and other wiring issues. I haven’t had my car for over a year due to this.
Last year on or about June 17, my transmission gave out completely on me while driving up hill on a 2way road. My vehicle is available for inspection, but the transmission has already been replaced with a used transmission. This event put my life and others at risk because my car completely stopped working on an incline with no indication it was going to give out. My father was actually imjured in his attempt to help me stop the car from rolling backwards. The day it happened I took my car to be assessed at our local Dodge dealership, and had it repaired by an independent contractor. As mentioned before there were no warning signs that it was going to fail. No signs of overheating and/or weird noises.
After getting oil changed/air filter replaced and 4 new tires, vehicle has stalled out every day since while running (less than week) it is now stalling out while driving!! happened while I was driving on the highway. Extremely dangerous. Car usually will restart. But 95% of the time it continuously sounds like it’s trying to turn over until I push the ignition button to turn off. I am currently stuck on the side of the road for about a half hour because it won’t start back up. I have had this car less than a year!.
Unknown car just stopped working and turned off.
Unknown ,check engine light came on the screen blacked out and began to stall out on freeway doing 55 . Was afraid of getting rearended.
When driving the vehicle steering will lock up, lose power and lose brakes. Have to force to turn and use emergency brakes to stop the car. Not the first time it's now has happen a total of 5 times.

The contact also stated that on one occasion while the vehicle was turned off, the vehicle did not start. Additionally, the contact stated that the front passenger’s side door could not be opened from the outside. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
So when I am driving down the street or on the freeway at an accelerated rate and then I start to push on the brakes to slow down to either come to a stoplight or an exit of the freeway and to either turn left or right the car will cut off but also stay on the engine completely cuts off and the steering wheel locks but the radio the air conditioner everything else stays on inside the car the ignition it self stays on run it's a push start. I then have to put my car in park and turn off then back on and hope it doesn't happen again, but it does.
Drove to a restaurant, sitting there with car fully on and running and it began to idle down and shake before shutting off. Diagnosis code is saying 6th cylnder of the engine. I haven't had any problems before this happened.
In the past two years I have had multiple electrical problems. The a/c turns on all on its own. The radio changes channels on its own but most important this morning 23 oct 2019 my 2014 Dodge Journey completely shutdown while I was making a right hand turn. Luckily I was able to get off the road safely.
Just before my warranty was up I got a check engine light and the car started running really rough almost like it was gonna die when I came to a stop. I called the dealership and they told me they would try to get me in at the next availability. With the end of my warranty closely approaching I told them this wasn’t an option. They finally got my car in after I made a few demanding phone calls to the right people and come to find out that somehow some hardware in my engine came loose and it was causing very abnormal wear on my lifters and so they “fixed” the problem. Fast forward a few months and now I’ve been having an annoying ticking noise coming from my engine. I tried using seafoam, nada. I tried using lucas high mileage additive, no dice. So I took it to a trusted mechanic as it is now well outside my warranty and he told me “it’s your lifters” which I already had a feeling it would be just by listening to the sound as between and idle and acceleration. So being I have over 167k miles on it it’s not even worth fixing. Oh and just a side note, my mechanic also mentioned to me that he fixed 4 other Journeys that week which tells me that Dodge has a serious problem with these model cars that they will not address. Oh and just for the record, I have the garbage 3. 6l pentastar engine.
Our 2014 Dodge Journey's engine is consuming oil with no warning. With no warning light/alarm or puddles of oil on the ground, I had to add over 3 quarts of oil to the engine. Due to this, the engine has failed beyond repair. This was presented in the manner of harsh clanking and banging within the engine while driving down the freeway. After having it towed to a local shop, it was found that metal shards were contained within the oil filter. The vehicle now doesn't run correctly even when not in motion.
I bought my vehicle in 2017. Before a year of owning it I got into a wreck because my cruise control wouldnt turn off and instead started accelerating more. Then I started having issues with my catalytic converter took it to the dealership and they said there was no way. Shortly after the rest of my systems started to go along with it now it's been about 6 months and I have a vehicle that can no longer move or so anything. Once my catalytic converter went out it started clogging the rest of my system. As of September 2019 my engine is now completely gone because of all the back up not being processed by my catcon.
I've had my throttle body fail twice in 8 months. Both while driving, it causes the car to not be able to accelerate. Almost was in a horrible accident.
Vehicle just won’t start sometimes. Changed battery , alternator, starter, etc system. And nothing has helped. No rhyme or reason some days it starts perfectly fine multiple times . . Other days I’ll go out and it just won’t start. I can go to my destination turn it off and it won’t turn back on.
Theres a few recalls on my 2014 Dodge Journey awd sxt that I've called and they said they dont have the parts and to call back in a few months. I just called now and they gave me the loop around transferring me to the front then back to service where I was placed on hold and then it rang to the front desks number and I had to leave a voicemail. Totally incompetent. This is at the Dodge dealership in colorado springs.

On may 15, 2018, approximately 10 minutes after I cranked my vehicle and left for work my vehicle caught on fire. I was approaching a 4way stop in gaylesville al 35973 at intersection of highway 35 and highway 68. Luckily there was a truck stopped in front of me and the driver jumped out telling me vehicle was on fire. Before I ever got out of vehicle flames were shooting out from under the hood. The engine cover caught on fire and totaled out the vehicle it burnt the engine all the wiring the hood and front axles.
Since 2015 this car has drained approximately 5 batteries. I purchased this automobile brand new 11/11/14 with 14 miles on it. This car was first taken to orange park Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram 7233 blanding blvd. , (904) 777-5500 in jacksonville, FL because of a drained battery and the car has to be started by pop-a-lock per my state farm insurance provider. The record shows that this occurred approximately three (3) times. Each time the car was returned with supposedly a new battery with no problem found with the last incident on 11/6/16. I relocated to north augusta, SC and on 11/23/16 and on 12/12/16 my car battery was drained again, state farm roadside assistance (all american road se 706-631-3580) was called once again and the car was taken to bob richards Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram 1666 jefferson davis highway in graniteville, SC (803) 349-4910. This dealership stated they found no problems, and after keeping the car the entire week end returning it to me "fixed". 1/9/17 this car will not start again, notified state farm roadside assistance they again referred me to all american roads se 706-631-3580 the car was jumped and started, but the "check engine" light remained on. 1/10/17 the car will not start again and I called Chrysler customer care where an appointment was set for the car to be serviced on Thursday 1/12/17 @ 10:00 am with milton rueben Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram 3508 washington road augusta, GA 30809. Pease help me, I am 67 year old senior and don't know what to do. The vehicle was stationary each time.
We purchased a 2014 Dodge Journey on 8/04/2016 under the assumption that the vehicle was certified. We eventually got the dealer to agree for us to bring the vehicle back to be certified and address all the other concerns. We picked the vehicle up in NY, heading home to PA and the car caught on fire while driving on the highway with my wife, our only daughter, two youngest sons, and myself. We were stranded, the dealer and manufacture did nothing including the warranty company. Although, the vehicle had factory, we just purchase the vehicle including "required warranty" for $2000, we were denied any assistance from Dodge and the dealership. We have been in constant contact with the dealer via different mediation and to this day, we are still on our own with out a vehicle that is safe to drive.
The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Journey. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle lost power and acceleration. The failure recurred once. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
Key fob doesnt always unlock/lock/start with push start, usually its delayed or vehicle will say vehicle is running but the ignition wont kick on start with push start. Will be dropping my daughter off at school and with an open of the door the vehicle signals that the key has left the car. I have replaced the key fob and batteries and continue to have this issue. Biggest concern is not being able to start the vehicle when needed or being locked out. Also, the touch screen and radio dials don't always work on steering wheel.

Hello my name is kelly dubose and I a single mother of two small children. I have been the owner of a Dodge Journey for a little over a year and I have already received two recalls on my vehicle. With these risks come serious consequences and I do not feel safe driving my children in this vehicle. I have contacted the dealership and they told me they are unable to provide me with a loaner vehicle. At this time I am highly upset because basically I have to play russian roulette with mine and my children's live every time I drive my only mode of transportation. I do not think it is appropriate for a company to knowingly allow anyone especially children to drive around in a defective vehicle that can at any given moment cause serious injury or even death without providing an alternative until the problem can be fixed. I am very upset and am considering looking into getting a lawyer to defend my rights as a consumer.
One of the biggest problem is the back doors not locking when in drive like they use to. My sons door didn't lock like normal (inside door child lock was locked too) but worse of all my car didn't even show that the door was open in the back and I didn't hear him fall out and it open and he fell out while driving, my check engine has been on and my outside temp on car dash reads 185 all the time, it loses power while driving, the radio also turns volume up and down and channels changes by itself. My wipes back and front sometimes go and don't turn off. My right fender is no longer on the car because when I got a flat aaa lifted the car from the under carriage and the fender just came off on one side like bolts weren't even place on there I bought this car for safety for myself and kids and this car is not safe and Dodge won't help and I'm very upside down on it, im a recently divorced mom waiting for disability for my back. I can't afford to trade it with more money down. I paid a down 6500 and pay 400. Per month and never thought I would have to worry that my kid would fall out while child lock was on and when the doors should lock, . Now this new recall with the engine makes me worried to drive my three kids to school or anywhere for that matter.
2014 Dodge Journey. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle engine recall. The dealer informed the consumer, the parts were not available.
