Front Seat Head Restraint problems of the 2015 Dodge Journey - part 1

The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, the passenger’s side headrest exploded without impact or warning. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the safety mechanism was erroneously tripped. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.

Driver seat headrest deployed. Thank god I was not in car when it happened. I noticed my head was uncomfortable driving when I looked I see it wide open!! I was not in a car accident or anything at all. I just got this vehicle July 2020! this is obviously a defect and a dangerous safety hazard!! thank god my kids and I were not in vehicle. I need the dealership to fix their defective vehicle immediately!!!.

Started vehicle as normal. Pulled out of driveway on to residential street and head what sounded like something hard hitting the side of the vehicle. When I had the chance to stop and investigate it was noticed that the front passenger side headrest had deployed.

I was sitting at a stoplight on my way home from work. The headrest made a strange cracking sound, and then popped forward without warning.

I went out to the car one morning and the driver headrest had popped open.

Was driving down a new road at 35 mph with no potholes and my driver side headrest exploded and struck me in the back of the head. Now there are broken pieces within the assembly and it will not close back! it now pushes my head forward while driving causing pain in my neck! ## VIN passed ## Dodge Journey 2015 ##.

My passenger side headrest randomly deployed while I was driving. Can't reset it or push it back in. Scared me half to death on the freeway.

Was sitting in a drive through and my passenger side seat headrest in front popped out! can not get it to go back on! this should be recalled I have seen several complaints on this!.

The passenger headrest popped while I was riding in the seat.

We slid a folding table in from the back of the car and bumped the passenger headrest and the active headrest restraint deployed.

My children and I were stopped stuck in traffic on I-75 n in atlanta, GA headed to the north georgia premium outlets when my daughter's headrest deployed while she was sleeping. The deployment of the headrest was sudden and caused her to wake up from her sleep. She stated that it was very painful and caused her neck and head to hurt.

Headrest on passenger side deployed while the vehicle was stationary in the driveway nobody in it.

Car was in park as it was being cleaned, we moved the front passenger seat and the headrest deployed. Unable to put it back in place the because plastic brackets that hold the metal pin are broken.

Front passenger side headrest spontaneously popped open while stopped at a red light. No one was in the passenger seat, nothing hit the seat or headrest, no sudden hard breaking occurred and nothing hit the car. Nor was there any form of accident before or during this incident. About 6 months later, the driver's seat headrest spontaneously popped open while my husband was sitting in the seat. The car was in park and was not running. Same as with the passenger side, nothing hit it, the seat or car. Nor had there been an accident at any point.

I was driving adown a city street and the passenger seat headrest deployed without any cause.

Driver's side headrest deployed for no reason while sitting in the parking lot at work. No one was in the vehicle at the time.

The headrest exploded while the vehicle was in motion and without the vehicle being impacted by another car.

The passenger headrest is deployed or sprung out. The plastic holding the metal pin is broken. It happened when the car was parked.

I was driving straight down the highway, approximately 40-45mph, when I heard a loud noise in my car (bang) then felt the front left (driver's) headrest hit the back of my head. Upon further observation, I realized that the headrest had deployed on me. I was not hit nor was anything touching the headrest. I called the dealership and was quoted over $400 to replace this safety feature in my car.

While driving straight to work last night,I heard a loud pop. The pop was almost as loud as a gun going off beside my face. It scared me,because I was unsure what had just occurred. I looked over and noticed my headrest on passenger side had popped in half and unable to be pushed back into place. Luckily,my oldest child or husband wasn't with me,or it would probably would have caused an injury,or at least some soreness. I'm not sure if this is a recall,but seems like it should be,especially if nothing triggered it. Please ensure this issue gets sorted out. Thank you for your time.

Upon entering our vehicle, we noticed that the passenger headrest had deployed. We have not been in an accident, had not moved the seat or even tilted it forward. This appears to just have happened overnight, while the car was sitting.

I was driving home from picking my son up from school. After my son got in the vehicle and we began to drive off the front passenger side headrest deployed. We were just leaving the school campus and turning on to the city street in front of the school. We have not been able to put the headrest back into it's correct position. This happened on or around the 02. 27. 20. We did not have time to check into having it fixed/corrected before covid-19 hit.

While just driving down the road the passenger side headrest deployed. It did not electronically release, but the plastic going around the retaining pin broke. Passenger was hit in the back of the head but not seriously injured.

The headrest deployed while driving with no impact. It is spring loaded and popped out very fast, it looks like plastic holding a doing back broke causing it to release, could have caused an accident.

While travelling at a low rate of speed, the passenger headrest deployed open. Broken clips inside and was opened for no apparent reason.

My family and I were traveling down the highway and unexpectedly the passenger side active headrest deployed. Thankfully, my son was not injured from this. I have read multiple forums on the internet and this doesn't seem to be an isolated incident. Please look into this as some can be injured from an unexpected blow to the back of the head.

The driverseat deployed while returning the seat back to an upright position in can no longer be retained. The retaining pins appear to be completely broken requiring a new headrest. This issue has caused unnecessary difficulty while driving and extreme discomfort to the driver.

Stopped at mcdonald's on way back from kansas city to omaha. When family went in headrest was fine. When we came out headrest was popped out.

I'm currently living in hawaii and I was driving down the road and hit a slight bump in the road and my passenger side headrest spring forward. Thinking it was something minor I did not think anything about it until I realized my airbag light came on, on the dashboard. If I am to hit a bump in the road the light will go off temporarily but come back on.

A while back my passenger side headrest exploded, not sure when or how? my car was under warranty so the dealership I purchased it fixed it, however recently when driving down the interstate out of no where my driver side headrest also exploded, it scared the crap out of me as I was pregnant at the time! I didn't hit anything, nor were there any holes! it's at the dealership now because my car stalled on me today, haven't had very good luck with the car at all! I believe they were cheaply made, have had several problems with this vehicle since I purchased it brand new in 2015! hopefully my warranty will cover the driver headrest as they gave me a hard time last time!.

My son was sliding/folding the middle row passenger side seat up and when it folded up it hit the front passenger seat really hard causing the headrest to deploy. The silver bar is inside the two teeth and the black plastic pieces that hold the silver bar are broken. The car was stationary in the driveway not running and not moving at time of incident.

I was driving down the road and noticed that my headrest was touching the back of my head more than normal and when I stopped the vehicle I looked at the headrest and it had �deployed� and will not shut / go back down.
