Sensing System Camera Problems of Dodge Journey

The rearview backup camera intermittently fails to display an image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The camera occasionally works, but most of the time the screen is blank or the image does not appear. I understand that similar 2018 Dodge Journey vehicles were recalled for this exact defect, but my VIN was excluded even though it exhibits the same symptoms. This creates a significant safety hazard because the vehicle does not consistently comply with federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 111.

The traction control light, the service awd light and the abs light are all on, the horn stopped working, the buttons on the steering wheel stopped working, the backup camera stopped working, the air in the back portion of the vehicle turns on randomly-and the temp to the back randomly adjusts on its own and the heated steering wheel control shuts off and doesn't work. I brought it in to the dealership to have the u49 recall completed but they said they don't have to inspect the wiring that is included into the functioning of the can bus system. All of these issues started within a week of each other and nothing fixes them.

The backup camera does not display correctly. When the car is put in reverse we get a picture of a camera with a line through it. This problem is very similar to what is in recall 59c but does not include our VIN number.

Back up camera works sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t. The screen is either black with a orange camera with a orange line going through it or it works and the picture of blinking then goes black.

Loss of visibility in backup camera when in reverses the camera will come on then go fuzzy then go out and displays a camera in orange with an orange line going though it.

An authorized Dodge dealer replaced the original rearview backup camera under warranty in 2021 with mopar replacement part 56054158ag. The replacement camera later became inoperative, displaying a black or distorted image and eventually no usable rearview image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. I later received an official fca us owner notification for mopar replacement camera part 56054158ag under safety recall 60c (NHTSA recall 25e-052). The owner notification states that the remedy is available. Attached are the dealer's 2021 warranty repair invoice documenting installation of part 56054158ag, the fca recall notices, and the dealer's July 2026 service record documenting that there were no active recalls associated with the vehicle. When I presented the vehicle, the owner notification, and the repair documentation to the authorized dealer, I was told there is no active recall associated with the vehicle, and the dealer documented that there were no active recalls for the vehicle at that time. As a result, the dealer did not perform the recall repair. I am concerned that owners of vehicles with recalled replacement cameras may have no clear path to obtaining the recall remedy when the replacement part is documented but no active recall is associated with the vehicle. The backup camera remains inoperative, reducing rearward visibility while backing and increasing the risk of a crash.

My 2019 Dodge Journey was built in March of 2019. My backup assist camera is having the same issues as the recall for Dodge Journeys that were built in may thru September or 2019. Why is my car not included in the recall when it is suffering the exact same issue as the vehicles included in the recall. Clearly I have the same equipment as the other cars.

The contact owns a 2018 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while reversing, the back over prevention screen delayed in responding, before going black and then returning to normal operation. Additionally, the vehicle failed to stop in a reasonable amount of time while depressing the brake pedal. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The backup camera has been an issue since I bought this vehicle back around 2020. It first would go in and out to black and now it's fully upside down at all times. I thought a recall had been issued but my vehicle doesn't qualify for some reason which is very frustrating. Tl the contact owns a 2019 Dodge Journey. While backing out of a parking spot, the vehicle's back up camera failed to alert the contact of another vehicle in the rear. As a result, the contact struck the parked vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,000.
