Vehicle Speed Control Problems of Dodge Journey - part 1

I bought the car in 2019 . Since purchasing it has had electrical issues. The ac blew hot air, the rear windows did not work, the center console usb plug caught fire, the lights on dash flicker. Dome light comes on by itself. Now the head lights flicker and go out. I have had it checked , and on computers nothing comes up. I cannot even use cruise control because it speeds up on its own to high speeds. I contacted the dealership, I was told I was making it up, I took it in and was told they could not find anything. I have taken video, and even have numerous witnesses to this. This is just one of many issues. Three nights ago on my way home from the store all my lights went out on the highway. It was pitch black. I was lucky no one was around me and I was able to get off the near by exit without crashing. There is no recalls on my car but on the 2016 Dodge Journey this is mentioned by numerous customers. I even contacted Dodge Chrysler and was told they have no records of any issues with my year make or model.

I was driving to work and after about 15 minutes of driving at around 45 miles an hour my car stopped accelerating when I pushed on the gas. Shortly after that my wheel locked and the power steering went out. Once I got myself on the side of the road the car would not turn off and I had trouble putting it in park. After a few minutes I was able to turn the car off and they called a tow truck to take me to a mechanic. The tow truck driver was able to restart the car and get the car in neutral to tow it to a mechanic.

It all started with no starts and had starter replaced and then charging problem had new battery and alternator replaced . Then driving to work all the dashboard lights lit up like a christmas tree and died a couple of times once in the middle of the road . Even when the car was in park and key out of the ignition the lights on dashboard would light up , like the car never totally shut off?replaced ecm afterwards thinking that was the problem but wasn’t the case (I still have the original ecm unit ) and still there was a battery drain , driving it and the lights lit up the dashboard and stalled out . You can here a buzzing sound after the car if off and key is removed ?.

The cruise control has stopped working. And there is faulty wiring in the hood making the check engine light come on. And a huge water and oil leak we just got the vehicle Friday 2/21.

Unknown: traction control light, air bag light, cruis control, horn, are not functioning properly and I believe it is the clock spring. Not sure if it was part of a recall previously.

While driving on the freeway some of the lights on my dash kit up and all the sudden my car would not go over 15 mph. I tried to turn it off and turn it back on and it continued to do the same thing. I did have my grandkids in the car.

Lighting bolt with parentheses came on along with off road sign. I was unable to accelerate past 20 mph and then I just rolled to a stop in morning traffic with my flashers on. I took it to dealership and they replaced my key battery since I told them I was also having problems lock and unlocking my car. I was told this should solve the problem. It did for about 3 weeks now lights back on car won’t accelerate only till and it’s shaking bad.

My headlights become unseeable at times, its difficult to see the road. My cruise control has got stuck and at one point accelerated on its own, and my 3rd row seats have no seat belt buckles. No one has confirmed my vehicle. There has been some recalls.

So on 7/1/24 our vehicle started overheating some. And then we had the check engine light to come on along with another light that looks like a lightning bolt inside an inside out parenthesis. So I research the symbol and it came back as an issue with the electric throttle control which is also means there is a problem with the electric parking brake. And then a mesage came on that said oil temp high speed may be limited. And then it started smoking really bad under the hood. So I researched some more and found out back in 2018 there was a recall on the same issue that was completed on September 23rd 2018.

Electronic stability control (esc), service brakes, hydraulic the light for the stability control came on and my brakes chatter feels like there's bumps on the disc . Its pulling to the right , . . Also my door locks have failed . First it started with my rear windshield wiper running with the switch off ,than my reverse lights and now the locks . The back door does not lock at all and the door locks work sometimes . The electronics on my car is failing @ 120,000 it started . Its now at 150,000 tried everything still wont work.

The car kept stalling while driving. We had it for 2 weeks and all the sencers went bad and it over heated. Had to leave it on the side of the road and it got towed by highway patrol. Also rewend the battery. Now we are stuck without a ride. I looked up the recalls it said they were repaired but I don't think that's true.

Pull over police officer stated said lights are to dim to be driving at night told me I need to have my lights checked out. While driving about 60- 62 mph the vehicle just shut down without warning trying push the accelerator it would not go no further stuck on interstate with emergency blinkers if could of cause bad accident or someone could of hit me without warning. Dodge Journey I need some assistance with my vehicle opposite site interstate.

The car will be driving and just completely shut off in traffic power steering locks up. You can’t get the car into park. The windshield wipers go crazy the screen goes black. It starts doing clicking sounds I had to have the firemen come and get me out of the road my car stopped since the second time this is so dangerous, they cannot figure out what’s wrong with it I replaced the battery @ the dealership, I’ve replaced the alternator at aamco. I bought this car in 2016 new off the lot. I’ve had many problems with the electrical. This is just the worst . My radio turns on and off at will . My driver side window will not roll down unless it’s below 30° outside which is super strange, and my air conditioning turns itself on turns itself off, but this was the scariest this is happened before last year and I had aamco look at the transmission. They said that the transmission had a lot of metal in it that they have seen a lot in these Dodges but they cleaned it out for me and it was fine, but this is the same thing that was happening and this is not a transmission thing this is a power thing it just loses power completely. My car only has 100,000 miles on it I’ve taken care of my car I’m the only owner. All those miles are highway miles from visiting family. I never drive my car anywhere further and then in my neighborhood which is a . 5 radius and I work from home so I rarely drive my car so 100,000 miles it isn’t a high number for a car that’s taken care of that isn’t driven often.

My vehicle, like those of numerous other Dodge Journey owners, has a malfunctioning abs control module. Because of this malfunction, the abs and cruise control do not work, placing me and my family in an unsafe situation. Some owners have even reported that they cannot drive their vehicles due to locked brakes resulting from this malfunction. I have tried every source in existence to find a replacement module, but I have been totally unsuccessful. Your company's response that you are unable to maintain a complete inventory for an indefinite period of time is appalling. Several thousand Dodge Journey owners who paid tens of thousands of dollars for their vehicles deserve better support. Sincerely, kyle vessel.

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Journey.  the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormal clunking and knocking noise was detected. The traction abs and all wd warning lights were illuminated. Made loud noises. The contact stated the vehicle did not accelerate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the brakes and sensors. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic, who referred her to the local dealer for assistance with the abs module. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the abs module was corroded and there was no recall coverage. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 109,004.

The contact owned a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the instrument panel began to behave erratically, after which the vehicle inadvertently lost all motive power, prompting her to attempt to quickly veer to the shoulder of the roadway. As a result, the contact was side swiped by another vehicle on the driver's side. The air bags did not deploy. All warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. Vehicle started stalling repeatedly for brief moments, cruise control began to "stick" on. Vehicle does not "die" in these instances but all electrical components shut down for a very brief moment then come back on. This happens frequently and for no apparent reason associated with road/driving conditions. Cruise control also wouldn't turn off when problems started. Haven't tried to use cruise control since first instance for fear of safety.

The car shifts super hard into second gear. The inside smells like the car is over heating,driving down the interstate the car losses power,you can push your foot to the floor and nothing,the car will not excelerate at all. It's extremely dangerous. You have to pull over turn the car off and then on again to get it to go. This happens about every 20 minutes or so,the heat only works in the driver vent and the smell gives you a headache and makes you sick to your stomach. The vehicle is not safe at all. The catalytic converter gives gas off into the cabin.

Speed control will not work unless you are going around 70mph and step on gas a little.

My abs module has malfunctioned so I lost anti lock brakes traction control and cruise control. The dealership has no parts and don't know when they can them. I also have another vehicle from Chrysler with same issue they have no idea when they will get parts and want me to pay up front before they order it. I find that wrong in so many ways. I called Chrysler and they didn't give a darn. I asked if car was safe to drive and all I got was I don't know. I don't know about you but this is pure bs this should be a recall item I mean it's only the brake system. This a huge problem it's not just Chrysler they all bought cheap chinese parts and they don't work. You need to put a fire up someone's ass to fix this before someone dies they are putting thousands of new cars out and they rest of us can't get parts. My abs, traction control, and my awd service light all have been on making my car jump before I can accelerate and it then drives fine but today it would not allow me to go over 15mph and all I could hear was grinding noises! this was the first time that has happened, I’ve replaced the wheel sensors, bearings, and all new tires it turned off for a couple months but now is back on! this is a huge hazard, I have 3 kids that were with me when the new incident happened and had to put my hazards on to make it into a gas station parking lot, this needs a recall on all senors, abs, cruise control, electrical, transmission. List goes on. What is it going to take for them to see many people have been complaining of the same issues at hand?? is it going to take a serious or critical accident?? it should not have to get that far, I’ve complained a couple years ago and no one ever contacted about these issues. I just want my car safe for my kids! please I beg of you to do something about these issues!.

Since purchasing this vehicle we have had catalytic converter issues that have persisted even after having the dealer "fix" the issue. We have also had abs/traction control module issues. This is the 2nd identical vehicle owned with the exact same problems.

While driving my Dodge Journey 2016 crossroad plus my engine started to hesitate when giving it throttle pressure to accelerate and when attempting to accelerate it decreased in speed and would in then cut power to speed up and then gain it back rapidly going into high rpm’s vehicle would then slow down on highway causing a huge safety risk for myself and others on the interstate.

As I was driving in March 2023 every light on the dashboard came on in the car. The car started shaking, the engine was very loud, the car speed slowed down than stopped, as I pressed the gas the car would not accelerate. After the car was parked overnight it started than I drove it to a Dodge dealership for repair, after being at the dealership for 7 days nothing was found by the technician to be wrong, the problem never happened while it was at the dealership, so I took the car. While driving the car for 7 months after the issue when I would drive up hills, I would have to completely press down on the gas to make it up the smallest hills. I didn't have any other issues until November 3, 2023, I was driving down the street and the same thing happened again. All the dashboard lights came on the car started shaking and the car speed slowed down eventually stopping.

I was driving on the highway and my car started to jerk when I accelerated and hit the brakes. I pulled over to see what was wrong with the car. It hesitated to start back up and when it did it stalled. My esc light came on and my engine light came on before I pulled over. I was stuck on the side of a busy highway with a car that almost caused an accident when it jerked. Took the car to autozone for a diagnostics check and got 3 error codes, p0344, p0128, and c121c-00. Was informed that there are similar issues being reported about cars of the same year, make, and model that was not included in a 2016-2017 recall and that there is an open investigation referring to the camshaft sensor being intermittent (code p0344). There was no other warning lights on the dashboard. All the lights came on at the same time.

The abs system got wet and shorted out the electrical system. It seems it may have been a recall earlier that was done but obviously it has failed again. Was driving and all lights and beepers went off. My abscandvtraction control and brake sensor and cruise control and park assist and engine and brake lights are all on and it now won’t start easy. It’s a mess and at the dealer who says they won’t help fix it.

The acceleration stopped, the lightening light, traction light and skid light all came on and would not accelerate. Car was on but no gas pedal in the middle of the highway. Oil was changed a week before and no leaks on ground but oil is low. It is very dangerous as it has done this several times over the last month and has caused me to almost be in several wrecks because speed drops and cars almost rear end me. Have replaced the crankshaft position sensor twice no in a month.

Abs system has moisture in there was a recall on. Couse the abs system to fail and is not working. I was driving in snow condition when it went fail the first time and almost lost control when applying the brakes. The problem has been reproduced and the car is at an independent repair shop. The abs trackion control light and check engine light where turned on.

My care has an acceleration issues, I had the transmission fixed twice and still does the same thing, I been having electrical issue's, my dome light comes on when I put car in reverse, my car compartment on drivers side back seat fills up with water, front seat floor gets wet underneath mat in winter, locks on doors lock and unlock at will, heating and ac unit comes on at will the car is dangerous to drive.

When making a turn and accelerating the gas the vehicle pops. This vehicle is a 1 time owner has 36,385 miles and is the rear differential and electric clutch assembly on rear differential is out. This vehicle should not have something this major occurring with the low mileage. So far no recalls. However I have seen multiple complaints within google search. This is a safety issue as it feels as though the vehicle is going to delay in turning and could cause an accident.

While driving at any speed the vehicle will start jerking and rpm's will rev way up and heat guage will fluctuate like the car is going to over heat but immediately drops back down to normal, when I let off the gas the vehicle starts to slow down very quickly like if I was pushing the break pedal.

Rear wheel bearing is bad after only 35,000 miles causing the speed sensor to fail which causes the cruise control to fail. The wheel bearing has also caused extreme wear on the tread of my brand new tires, and the abs and stability/traction lights to come on in the dash display. I have researched this problem extensively and found that many Dodge Journey owners have experienced the same issues.

Hi I bought this Dodge Journey on may 24 2021 since the first day I bought it the car started giving me problems the dealer wouldn't take the car back and in stuck with it the engine from the car is giving me problems it won't accelerate is very scary I'm very concerned because I got kids and also the car started smoking .
