13 problems related to front air bag have been reported for the 1997 Dodge Neon. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Contact states: while driving approximately 35 mph the consumer swerved to avoid hitting another car, however his door was scratched, then the vehicle stalled and the air bags deployed. The consumer suffered a minor injury to his wrist due to the deployment of the air bag.
After frontal impact, air bag took 2 minutes after the impact to deploy. Liquid in air bag caused drivers shirt to catch on fire, and burned her arms. . Consumer stated he hit a utility pole.
While in reverse, barely coasting with no bump in road, both airbags deployed. No injuries.
While making a dead stop was rear ended by another vehicle, and at same time consumer rear ended vehicle in front. Upon impact, none of air bags deployed.
Point of impact was driver's side front. Neither airbag deployed, front passenger seat belt did not lock. Neon was declared a total loss due to suspension and engine damage.
Consumer was traveling 20-25 mph and coming down hill another vehicle was coming out of driveway & didn't stop, consumer rearended vehicle in front, and airbags didn't deploy. No injuries. Dealer will be contacted.
