We purchased the vehicle about 2 years ago from a used car dealership. About a week after we bought it, the check engine light came on, and we also noticed that the trunk was leaking and had so much water in it that mushrooms were literally growing under the carpet. No one could fix the trunk leak. We had to take the carpet out and bleach the mushrooms off, twice. We ended up buying caulking and fixed it ourselves so we wouldn't waste $250 for a mechanic to not fix it again. It took 3 tubes of caulking, but it stopped leaking. Now the sun roof leaks as well. But the biggest problem is that no one seems to be able to fix the check engine light problem either. We've taken the car to 4 separate garages and have had this same issue "fixed" 6 times now. We've spent at least $500 all in all on this one problem and each time, the light goes off, but a week later it comes back on. No one can fix it. We've had the car for 2 years and we've already put at least $1000 into it, if you include the brakes and tune ups.

My 2002 Dodge Neon leaks through the trunk and runs into the backseat floorboards. After a rain or snow melt (let alone a carwash) water is pooled up in the spare tire area of my cars trunk and then runs through to the backseat floorboards. The car now has a terrible musty, moldy smell.

My 2002 Dodge Neon trunk also fills up with water when it rains and flows into the backseat and on the floor of the back. It's been on going for a year or two. When I first noticed it, I took it to a Dodge dealership and the guy said that he had never heard of this problem before and took apart my back seat and said he couldn't find where the leak was from. He said he would have to charge me like $100 to just spray it with a hose and see where the leak was. I said forget it. I went to other sites and saw that it's a common flaw in this car. Eventually, my brother in law looked at it, and he unplugged a hole in the wheel well of my trunk. . . Problem solved! I will never buy a Dodge again, especially a Neon.
Everytime it rains, I get a trunk full of water and my rear floorboards get soaked. By looking at this complaint site, I see this is a manufacturing problem. Writing Dodge may not help, but I have to start somewhere.
In the past year since I have owned the car there has been water in the trunk, under the back seat, and the back seat floor board.

Leaky trunk and back seat.
Trunk leaks with water collecting in the spare tire well.
As many others have reported, whenever there is a heavy rainfall the floors in the rear of the car fill with water. It is so bad that now it filters over into the front seats. I have been haivng this problems for a few years but was unaware that there were others with the same issue. Dealers and auto mechanics have not been successful in finding the source of the leak.
Dodge Neon fills with water in the trunk each time it rains, and fills the rear floorboards. I disassembled the car to get the mold out. This is due to faulty rear tail-light seals. I have replaced them 3 times. They last about 4 or 5 months and start leaking again. Dodge should be ashamed. They are aware of the problem. Each time you go to the dealer (I've been to 9 different ones) they are "all" aware of the problem and 4 or 5 have actually "laughed" about it. This was my first Dodge product, and the last Dodge product for myself or anyone in my family as long as I live.
The trunk in the consumer's 2002 Dodge Neon had a leak that the dealer could not find. Water accumulated in the spare tire spot.
Whenever it rains, I have a lot of water on the back floorboards and trunk. Sometimes it's about an inch or two high. We've tried numerous ways to control it or even to get it dry so that it would not mildew. It does not work and it smells really bad now. It seems to be a factory problem and will try to get dealer to fix. Seems like many people have not been successful doing that but more complains from people someday may help.
I have a 2001 Dodge Neon, with a water leak problem. The car has always stood uncovered in the rain and snow, and never before has had any water leaked in. And yes, the windows and doors were closed. The water has come in from somewhere above the brake pedal. The puddle was on the driver side floor. There were traces of water on the brake pedal. I thought purchasing an extended daimler Chrysler warranty would be a good form of protection, since Chrysler's are known to be inferior vehicles. The reason I bought the car was because it's all I could afford at the time. I regret it now and curse the manufacturer for not backing up their products or warranties. The warranty doesn't cover water leaks and the dealer wants $100. 00 to determine the problem area. Don't buy a Neon.
Any time it rains, the rear floor pan and rear seats as well as the trunk fill with water and become unusable.
The vehicles front fender cracked. The dealership indicated that this was due to the fender not having enough bracket to sustain pressure.
Problem: water leaking into the trunk through the taillight filled the spare tire well and soaked into the back seat. We now have a musty smell indicating a mold problem, probably from the seat. We have used professional cleaning supplies to try eliminate the smell. The cleaning did help but the smell is still there. Since my wife and daughter have asthma, and are alergic to mold, I will most likely have to replace the back seat. Cost unknown. I started searching the web for similar problems with Neons last night after a neighbor, who also owns a Neon and knew aboout our problem, came to talk to me because the same thing just happened to theirs. Problem showed up last summer (2002)at approximately 50,000 miles.
