Six problems related to fuel pump have been reported for the 2007 Dodge Nitro. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2011

I filled fuel tank and used the auto fuel fill feature at the fuel pump the pump shut off and when it did approx a quart of gas came spurting out all over the paint and onto the ground leaving a puddle of fuel,to me this is a major safety problem and should, but is not a recall for this vehicle.

2 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2011

When filling up 2007 Dodge Nitro sxt 92,000 miles, gasoline sprays back after fuel pump shuts off.

3 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2011

2007 Dodge Nitro gas tank overflows everytime tank is filled. When fuel pump clicks off several seconds later 1/2 gallon to 1 gallon of fuel spills all over the back of the car and ground. Causing a fire hazard. From my understanding it is a check valve in the fuel tank that Dodge will not cover. My Nitro is out of warranty.

4 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2010

Gas spilling out of gas tank when filling from gas pump. I took my Nitro in this morning and they had done and ready to go by noon. Invoice reads as follows: 78240 confirm gas overflow when filling, test vent hoses, good. Found rollover valve in tank not sealing. Replaced fuel tank and seal. 1-68034783aa tank replace charcoal canister & o-ring. 1 4891757ac canister 1 55366298aa o-ring-fuel pump and level cost to me was $425. 00.

5 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

When filling gas tank, once the tank is full it does not trigger the fuel pump to shut off and gas comes spewing out of the tank until you manually shut off the fuel pump.

6 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro 4x4. When the contact filled up the fuel tank, gasoline would spew back out of the tank. She also smelled potent gasoline fumes inside the passenger compartment. The dealer could not duplicate the failure and stated that they would monitor the issue. As time progressed, the vehicle continued to experience the same failures. A diagnostic was performed and the dealer stated that the fuel pump and tank needed to be replaced. The contact would have to pay for the repairs because the vehicle was out of warranty. He has supporting documentation and video that demonstrates the failure. The current and failure mileages were less than 44,000.
