Upon filling up gas tank, I have had gas shoot out at me from the filling nozzle. I have tried to remedy this situation by slowing down as I am coming close to filling my gas tank at 18 gallons and I still have gas pour out of the vehicle and onto the floor. 6 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2012

When I filled my gas tank and the fuel nozzle had shut off gas overflowed and spilled out of the filler neck. My understanding is that this is do to a defective air vent in the fuel tank. I understand that the air vent in the fuel tank is to protect the gas tank from exploding during a vehicle roll over. If the air vent is defective then I would assume that the gas tank could explode during a roll over.

7 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2012

There is a valve in the gas tank that's prevents gas spillage in the event of an accident and the car rolls over. This valve is defective and now my vehicle spills gas whenever I gas up automatically. This means that the safety valve is inop and if I rollover during an accident the gas will spill out. This has been happening for a while now and I just googled the problem and everyone that has this vehicle is experiencing this problem. There should be a recall cause e en the dealer told me it is a common problem and Chrysler is aware of it. How can we eel safe driving a vehicle with a potential life threatening malfunction.

14 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2011

I am writing this complaint due to the fuel valvue system being a defect. There has been so many complaints regarding the fuel system such as when your pumping gas it is overflowing due to the fule valve not working properly like it should. This is a big safety reason due to it shuts the fuel off if the car are rolled over which may cause serious injury to whoever is involved. My car only has 38,500 miles on the car and is used. I got it a year ago and it did it to me twice when I first did it but then havent done it since the last 5 fuel ups and now it is over flowing every time. They have recalled the jeeps due to this problem but they have not the Dodge Nitros. The Dodge Nitros have the same fuel tank in them as the jeeps so what are they waiting for. For someone to get seriously injuried or even die because of this problem. It get it repaired cost over 1,000. I got it used and the dealer isnt even willing to cover it. I believe they should recall the Dodge Nitros for the fuel system due to the seriousiness of this because I know I am goign to be having a newborn very soon and the safety is very high and if they do not get recall I will be getting it fixed since now a days the people who sell these products dont care about their customers anymore.

15 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2011

When filling the vehicle with gasoline, the auto shut off does not work. This is very dangerous, as it overfills and fuel spills out all over the vehicle and the surrounding area. I have learned that this has something to do with the vapor valve in the fuel tank, and is even a bigger problem if the vehicle was involved in a rollover, as the fuel would come spilling out of the tank. Took it to the dealership and they told me that I would be responsible for replaing the fuel tank. This should be a recall, as Dodge has had this happen before on other models.

16 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

I bought this vehicle used in October of 2011, so I only know the problem started with my first gas tank fill up. After each and every "fill up" several ounces of gasoline leak from the tank area. . . This does not come from the hole where the gas pump nozzle goes, it seems to be leaking from beneath that point. This is problematic because the entire bottom left portion of my vehicle is bathed in gasoline. Upon researching this problem I have found that many other Dodge Nitro owners are experiencing the same problem. My gas attendant also has told me that this seems to be a problem with the Dodge Nitro and a few models of the Jeep. His suggestion is to never fill my tank to full again. That is not a solution, there needs to be a recall issued and Dodge needs to take care of this problem, now!.

20 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2011

2007 Dodge Nitro, fuel spills out of tank when filling up vehiclle. Gasoline stations pump auto shutoff won't work with vehicle causing fuel to come splashing out when full. From investigation of other incidents from other owners, this is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident. The valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and your car could possibly explode in a rollover accident. I have read that this is a manufacturing defect, and that Chrysler knows about it and will not repair without charge unless under warranty.

21 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2011

Regardless of which station I use, gas overflows from my tank every time I refuel. In order to avoid this, I have to stop fueling because it never automatically shuts off. I've read blogs & talked to other Dodge Nitro and Jeep owners and they are experiencing the same problem. Not only is this damaging to the vehicle, it is unsafe to have gas spilling over at the stations and having gas on the exterior of the vehicle while driving.

When filling the vehicle up with gas the pump does not shut off. It has spewed gasoline all over me, the vehicle and the ground. It appears to be a problem with a valve in the gas tank. This is a safety concern. I hope they don't wait until someone is killed in a fire in order to fix the issue.

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro 4x4. The contact stated while refueling the vehicle, the fuel would overflow and onto the vehicle. There were no recalls for the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 30,000.

29 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

Hi I bought my 2007 Dodge Nitro in 2007, I have not had many issues a few minor ones no biggie. But recently the last year and a half my check engine light kept coming on then going away coming on then going away. It was getting me aggravated. Eeverytime I took it in to the dealer they said no everything is fine ok sure. Lately everytime I go to fill up my tank it has been overflowing. So I was really fed up I took it in and explained the situation to them (dealer) they informed me that it will need a new fuel tank and fill neck. Now I have done some research and aparantly im not the only Nitro owner going through this issue. I hear that the valve is defective and that it's a manufacturer defect and that chyrysler knows about it. Now bear in mind we have all been driving a car god forbid got into an accident and the car blows up because of that. I am not happy I will pursue this and my service better get covered thank god I got the extra warranty!!!! I suggest on eveybody's behalf that a recall is issued and if I pay the deuctable I want my money back!!!!.

2007 Dodge Nitro r/t overflow on gas tank spill quart of fuel on each fillup. I understand the tank has a faulty cutoff inside the tank which malfunctions. 35 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2011

Gas spilling out of filler neck on my 2007 Dodge Nitro when it has finished filling. I placed the nozzle fully into the tank and click the automatic filler in place and once the nozzle clicks indicating it is full 1-2 cups of gas spills out and sprays everywhere on me, the ground, and the car creating a huge safety hazard. This has happened several times at numerous gas stations. I have found out recently that the Nitro, along with Jeep's liberty, is prone to this.
