36 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2011

Gas hazard!!!! my 2007 Dodge Nitro spits gas back at you once it has finished filling. I placed the nozzle fully into the tank and click the automatic filler in place and once the nozzle clicks indicating it is full 1-2 cups of gas "burps" back up spraying everywhere on me, the ground, the car making a giant mess and huge safety hazard. This has happened numerous times at more than a couple different locations and I have found out recently that the Nitro is prone to this. There needs to be a recall on this issue and Dodge needs to take care of this immediately.

37 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2011

My 2007 Dodge Nitro spills gasoline every time I pump gas. The pump fails to shut off and gasoline spewes out of the fill tube onto the side of the vehicle, the pavement and on a couple of occasions my legs and shoes. This has occurred at many different gas stations and pumps and only started recently after the warranty expired. Internet research indicates that this problem is caused by a faulty vent valve inside the tank that must be replaced. In addition the faulty valve is designed to prevent explosions in case the vehicle rolls over. If this valve is faulty this is a serious safety issue for Nitro owners.

38 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2011

When fueling up my Dodge Nitro a couple weeks ago, an annoying problem began to surface. Rather than cutting off when full, the gas would overflow. This occured every time that I fueled up no matter where I was fueling. This is due to the malfunction of a valve in the gas tank. Upon researching, I have found that this is more than just an annoyance, and ruining the paint, but it is dangerous. If my vehicle were to be involved in a roll over accident the malfunction of this valve will cause the leakage of fuel and possible explosion of the vehicle. I also found out that in order to solve the problem, the entire gas tank needs to be replaced. I believe this to be a major safety issue and believe that Dodge should issue a recall on the part.

39 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

Within the last few weeks every time that I went to fill up my gas tank, gas would start pouring out of the gas tank. At first I thought it was the pump so I went to several other stations and every time, gas came out. The warranty for my truck just recently went up and I've made several calls to Chrysler to have them pay for this out of their pocket. It's something that is faulty with their gas tanks and I'm not the only one that is seeing an issue. Hopefully with your help a recall can be issued for this model and make Chrysler stand by their product regardless of warranty. Its a major safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately.

40 Tank Assembly problem

Fuel tank burps back after pump clicks off spilling approx. A quart of gas on the side of vehicle and the ground. 2007 Dodge Nitro 4x4.

41 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2010

I own a 2007 Dodge Nitro with 47,000 miles that recently every time I fill up the gas tank, gas will spray out of the filler neck. It doesn't matter if the gas pump nozzle is being held or if you set it to fill automatically. As soon as the gas stops pumping, you can hear what sounds like a burping sound then about a cup full or more of gas comes spraying out of the filler neck. Have heard of other Nitro owners with the same problem having the gas tank replaced because of a stuck roll over valve. My vehicle has yet to be repaired. .

42 Tank Assembly problem

Upon fueling up my gas tank, the nozzle will click off and then about a half gallon of gas comes rushing off.

I place the nozzle fully into the tank and click the automatic filler in place (as I have done when filling any other car in my life) and once the nozzle clicks indicating it is full 1-2 cups of gas "burps" back up spraying everywhere on me, the ground, the car making a giant mess and huge safety hazard. 46 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

2007 Dodge Nitro, 3. 7l engine, 4wd - everytime I fill the tank with gas, before the pump shuts off, gas spills out of the fuel filler. I've read about the Jeep liberty and other Dodge Nitro's doing the same thing. I've tried different gas stations, filling slowly, etc. All with the same result. At $4. 00 per gallon, I can't afford to waste a drop of gas. Not to mention the environmental imapct of spilling gas all over the ground. We need to get the gov't involved and do a recall to fix the fuel tank rollover valve. If the us dept of transportation doesn't do anything - lets get the environmentalist involved. This is not only a safety issue right now (fuel spilling all over the ground could cause a fire), but if the car is involved in a rollover, gas will spill all over the place. Help me, help us all, help the environment.

The approximate failure mileage was 16,500 and the current mileage was 16,900. Updated 03/21/11.

48 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2010

I have an 07 Dodge Nitro r/t. Every time I fill up the gas tank, it overflows and pours out. It is a common occurrence with these vehicles and clearly needs to be recalled. Apparently this is due to a broken gauge in the gas tank filler neck.

49 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2010

Every time I fill the gas tank of my 2007 Dodge Nitro r/t, the gas back flows out of the filler neck opening once the gas nozzle clicks as the tank becomes full. This back flow pours gas out of the filler neck, onto the side of the vehicle, onto the ground and, most times, on me. I have not approached Dodge about fixing this issue. Of course my warranty is gone. Nhtsa: force Dodge to do a recall on this issue. What is it going to take, someone catching on fire from gas pouring on them?.

50 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro 4x4. While the vehicle was parked the contact noticed the gasoline sensor was not working while she added fuel into the vehicle. The fuel would over flow and not indicate when the fuel tank was full. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the fuel tank was replaced and the cost was covered under warranty. The failure recurred after the vehicle was repaired. The dealer was contacted and stated that they would inspect the vehicle but if the fuel tank needed to be replaced they would not cover the costs. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 30,990.

51 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2010

Every time I attempt to fill the gas tank, the pump does not automatically shut off when the gas tank is full. Gasoline overflows out of the car's fill tube, down the side of the car and onto the ground. I am not forcing gas into the tank. I am only attempting to fill the tank as I have done for many years on my previous vehicles.

52 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2010

When refueling, after the pump nozzle shuts off, there is a back splash of gasoline from the tank filler tube. Suspect the fuel tank roll over valve is stuck open. This creates a fire hazard upon refueling and would allow fuel leakage upon roll over, the exact event the valve is supposed to prevent. This has been consistent since November 2010.

53 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2010

I own a 2007 Dodge Nitro 3. 7 v6. I have been experiencing for over the last month when I fill up the gas tank it will click off at the nozzle but then I get gas spewing back out! scary and a safety hazard. I am told this is a problem with the rollover valve. The valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and the car could possibly explode in a rollover accident. I have read that this is a manufacturing defect, and Chrysler/Dodge knows about it. I am out of warranty for my vehicle but I know I am not alone in this. The only fix I know of is replacing the gas tank at my expense. I feel Chrysler/Dodge should do this at their expense since they know it is a common problem!.

54 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2010

After fueling up the vehicle, the gas tank "burps" out about a gallon and a half of gas all over the person pumping gas, the truck and the ground around the vehicle.

55 Tank Assembly problem

57 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2010

I own a 2007 Dodge Nitro 3. 7 v6. 58 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

I am having multiple issues. The gas tank overflows every time I get gas, the air conditioner only cools while driving and sometimes produces heat instead, the locks do not work 4 out of 7 days a week, the tpm signal comes on every few days even though the tires are fine, and the windows do not work on occasion. Although this appears to me there is an electrical and gas tank issue, there are not any recalls issued at this time. I have called the dealer several times and have been told that I will need to bring it by when things are not working in order for them to do any type of diagnostic testing. I consider both electrical and gas to be a safety issue and would like for someone to address this concern. In addition, but I am not sure if it is directly related to the electrical issue, both brake lights stopped working.

59 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

It appears there is a problem with the gas tank which seems to spill fuel every time during refueling.

60 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2010

Splash back of gas every time I fill up. Runs down side of vehicle and onto ground seems like a major safety concern Dodge should address. Called the company and they gave me a case number [xxx] and sent me to dealer to have my 2007 Nitro checked. Dealer found gas tank check valve stuck closed and seal torn. To fix problem fuel tank and valve need to be replaced;$975. Called company back and since my mileage was 43,000 told me I would have a CO-pay of $450. Needless to say I wasn't happy to be paying for a safety issue Dodge clearly knows about after reading other complaints on various websites. After telling this to my Dodge case worker chelsie cs1123 she told me they weren't changing their policy and gave me 30 days. I had vehicle fixed and paid CO-pay. Dodge knows they have you over a barrel and you can't do anything about it. I hope it doesn't take someone getting hurt before Dodge takes responsibility might think that's cheaper than replacing faulty tanks and valves on all Dodge Nitros. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

61 Tank Assembly problem
