Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problems of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Seven problems related to tank filler pipe and cap have been reported for the 2007 Dodge Nitro. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2012

When filling the vehicle with gas, fuel will spew from the filler pipe and spill all over the side of the vehicle and on the person fueling. It has come to our attention that the cause is a faulty overflow flap that is designed to keep fuel from flowing out of the tank upon fill up, but more importantly it is to prevent fuel from exiting the tank in the case of a rollover accident. This faulty flap could mean life or death in a rollover if fuel is allowed to leak from the tank and ignite.

2 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

When filling the gas tank with an automatic cut off nozzle, there is severe splash back as the nozzle shuts off the gas supply. Gas sputs out of the filler pipe under pressure. This is real fire hazard plus quite a mess if it gets on the driver/gas pump user. Repeated surges will likely take the paint off the left rear fender.

3 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

I have problems when fueling my vehicle. I do not top off. When the auto shut off on the hose clicks, gas will shoot out of the vehicle. This will happen every time if I don't stop the fuel before I know it is almost full. Because of this back flush of fuel, the check engine light will come on along with the gascap light. Had this checked and dealership put a new gas cap on and changed a filter in the gas tank. A few months later the same problem happened. I was told that I needed an entire new gas tank. I was not about to spend that much money, so I said I would just be sure not to fill the tank to full. Again, I have the check engine light on and the gascap light. When will a recall be issued so the tank gets replaced on Chrysler's dollar? shouldn't the gas tank have a lifetime warranty unless there is neglect or an accident?.

4 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro. The contact stated that gasoline would spill from the fuel tank when the vehicle was refueled. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that there was a failure with the filler cap. The vehicle was not repaired. 5 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

When filling the gas tank with an automatic cut off nozzle, there is severe splash back as the nozzle shuts off the gas supply. Gas sputs out of the filler pipe under pressure. This is real fire hazzard plus quite a mess if it gets on the driver/gas pump user. Repeated surges will likely take the paint off the left rear fender. If I estimate that the tank will take about 14 gallons, I stop the delivery at 11 gallons, remove the nozzle and shake the vehicle. Then I reinsert the nozzle and stop at each gallon until full. Even with this technique, there may be a mild splash back. This technique makes fueling the vehicle a real chore which is an aggrevation!.

6 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2011

When fueling vehicle, gasoline will always squirt out of the filler pipe. This is a fire safety issue that Chrysler should be addressing. I have to put my ear down next to the filler to hear when the tank is getting close to full, and hopefully shut the pump off before it spews gas all over side of car.
