Gas tank overflows after gas pump shuts off.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2018

I just bought my 2008 Dodge Nitro. Every time I fill it with gas and top the tank off, the pump clicks off and a second later, about a half gallon of gas spews out of the vehicles gas tank, down the side of my vehicle and onto the ground. This is a major safety hazard not only for Nitro owners but for the public around us as it could possibly lead to an explosion in the event of an accident. I've read many complaints online from other Nitro owners with the same issue. A few have taken their vehicle into the shop and was told that there's a factory defect inside the tank which is causing the issue. They replaced the tank and the problem was fixed. Please. . . We need to get these vehicles recalled and fixed as soon as possible!!!.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2018

I just bought this vehicle. Every time I fill the gas tank, the gas pump will click off when full and as soon as it shuts off, about a half gallon of gas will burp out of my gas tank and cover the side of my Nitro and the ground. I've read a lot of reviews of a lot of other people having the same issue. They have taken it to the dealer and there is a defect in the fuel tank and the tank needs to be replaced. This is a major safety hazard!!! what if I were in a roll over accident? the fuel would poor out and one little spark, I'd be blown to shreds!!! or someone could hit me in the tank area and once again, an explosion!!! since buying the vehicle, I have read complaints from so many other people with the same issue. Please recall these Dodge Nitros for the owners safety and the safety of everyone around us!!! please!!! it's a factory defect which should be covered by Dodge for the consumer's safety. I should not have to pay $500 out of pocket for a mistake that Dodge made. Please help get these vehicles recalled for the fuel tank because it is definitely a major safety hazard!!!.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2017

Every time that I fill up, the gas comes out of the tank. I was told that this is a know issues and it is a part inside the gas tank and the entire tank would need to be replaced. I have researched online and it look the piece in question of the malfunction stops the gas from igniting in a roll over. How is this not been recalled?.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2016

I received a letter from Chrysler customer assistant center which stated the fuel tank inlet check valve in cars like mine were defective and they would repair it at no cost to me. I seduced an appointment with my local Dodge/Chrysler shop. They found that my car was originally owned and registered in canada. I contacted the company who sent me the letter. The person I talked to said they have no record of the letter that was sent to me. He asked if I could fax him the letter, which I did. He said there should be no problem after that. He later left a message on my phone after he received the letter and said their company was not going to pay for my repairs because my car was originally purchased in canada. I called canada and updated the information they had on my car. I bought the car about 4 years ago at my local Dodge dealer and I'm financing the car. If I received a letter stating they were going to pay for the repair of the problem with the check valve they need to honor that.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Nitro. While refueling the fuel tank, it failed to register as full and fuel spewed back out of the vehicle. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2013

Problem with the gas overflowing when attempting to fill the tank - most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident. The valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and could possibly explode in a rollover accident. I have read that this is a manufacturing defect, and that Chrysler knows about it. I am possibly driving a dangerous vehicle. This is about more than gasoline spilling at the gas station !!!!.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2013

Purchased 2008 Dodge Nitro sxt used with 61,500 miles on it. Gas tank fill tube overflows every time you fuel up vehicle. It does not matter how fast or slow you add fuel it overflows every time. Contacted my mechanic and he stated to contact dealer as it is a safety issue. Called dealership and they checked for plugged vent and said if not that must be tank itself. Tons of complaints and Dodge seems to sweep it under the rug, very dissappointed. Called the 1-800-992-1997 for Dodge and filed a complaint. Meanwhile still dealing with tank overflowing with every fill. . . . . . . . . . .

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2012

While fueling my 2008 Dodge Nitro r/t as the fuel reaches full and the gas pump clicks off, fuel burps up and spills to ground/on to side of vehicle. This occurs each time I fill up the gas tank.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2012

During multiple incidents, the vehicle has "burped" gas when the tank fills. About a 1/2 gallon of gas spills out the fuel filler neck and onto the body of the vehicle and onto the ground. I see internet sites claiming this to be a frequent problem with this vehicle. There is no indication when the gas will spew from the tank and this occurs during manual pump operation as well is if the pump handle is on automatic fill.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

Fuel will splash out of tank every time I fill up and use auto shut off. This is a common problem with Chrysler/Dodge vehicles if you search for complaints online and 45,000 2005 durangos were apparently recalled for the same problem. This is a huge fire hazard at gas stations as well as something that can potentially damage the paint on my vehicle. Dodge is claiming no responsibility for the issue.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

Every time I fill my fuel tank in my 08 Dodge Nitro rt it spills out all over the ground. This occurs when im setting the pump to stop automatically and the pump stops then the tank starts to spill. It seems to a check valve issue with the tank an can be a safety hazard at the fuel stations for myself and others around. A simple spark due to a faulty ground in the area could cause this to ignite and be potentially fatal. I feel Chrysler should be held responsible for this and a safety recall be issued. Many people have had this problem and it appears that the powers that be are not enforcing Chrysler to make this a recall issue. I guess it will take someone to become severely injured or killed before anyrhing is done about it. Chrysler has a TSB (14-001-09) in regards to this issue so they know it is a problem and they continue to want to charge customers to fix the issue. Someone needs to do something about this ASAP!.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2012

This problem has not caused an accident but it has caused the gasoline to shoot out of my gas tank and drench me in gas several times. I believe if there is a sensor in my gas tank that it is not working properly enough to indicate that the tank is full or close to full when I'm pumping gas. When I pull out the nozzle the gas shoots out all over the place ( this is after the gas has shut off at the pump). Don't know if there have been similar incidents reported but it is important enough for me to complain about it. The Dodge dealer that sold us the vehicle when new does not seem to want to take the time to investigate my complaint so I'm looking to other sources to see if this is just a random problem or one that is worth investigating further for everyone's benefit.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2012

Started driving a 2008 Nitro the first of the year. Upon refueling the vehicle, everytime the some part of the fuel tank causes gas to overflow onto the vehicle and the ground. Whether the hose is being pumped manually or triggered to stay on does not change this outcome. This is an evironmental as well as a safety concern. Upon some research this problem has occured on previous models. Why hasnt a recall been issued? the customer should not incur a cost due to faulty design the company should have fixed.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2010

When I fuel the vehicle up fuel bursts out, and doesn't shut off automatically. I've tried numerous different stations and even different pumps but this still happens. Gas pours out of the car and down the sides and even onto me. . A pain and waste of money. There are several situations and claims that I have seen like this that need to be recalled and addressed. I have heard (from a family member who is a mechanic)that this is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident the valve is obviously defective and now nothing it stopping it from exploding from a rollover accident. Chrysler knows about this and this should be covered under manufacture defect (recall) please fix this and address this issue ASAP!.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2008

Every time I fill up the gas tank, it overflows and shoots out all over the vehicle, the ground, and any thing or any person that is close by. From what I understand, this is a common problem with this vehicle. It has always been an issue and is not something that has recently developed.
