The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Nitro. When the vehicle was refueled, the filler pipe failed to shut off when the tank was full. As a result, fuel spilled out. The dealer diagnosed that the fuel tank valve failed and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.

After pumping fuel into my Nitro about 1\2 -1 gallon of gas comes spraying out of the filler pipe. This is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident. The valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and my car could possibly explode in a rollover accident.

When fueling the car, the auto shutoff does not work and fuel spews out of the tank. This is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident. The valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and the car could possibly explode in a rollover accident. I had taken it to a dealership about a year ago and all they would do is clean out the filter. That did not resolve the problem.
