I drive a 2008 Dodge Nitro, had it for 3 years, had no issues untill this year 2016, at the beginning of 2016 I had my car accelerate on its own while I was a red light, that almost caused and accident, took it in to the dealership to get that checked out but after paying $140 they did not do a thing because, they could not duplicate?? then months later, it happened a few other times, ones on my drive way and another in a parking lot at wal-mart, had. No issues for about afew months, but then suddenly just a few months ago I had a sudden scare of my car turning it self off on the freeway, I had my kids in the behicle and it was at night, glad nothing bad happened, but then I started to notice the lights on my pannel started to turn on, first it was the security red light, then, tire gauge, they till this day keep turning on and off, but the latest issue and most frequent is the windshield wipers, they stay truned on, the pannel lights and windshield wiper issue all started to happen since june2016 I called Dodge not the dealership but their actually office, and all they kept doing was giving me the run arround, asking me to go spend my hard owned money to get it checked out, yet I had already done that when that first started, and they could never "duplicate" it, and that was when it would just take off on its own, I recently did a search and found out that all Dodge Nitros were going thru the same issues, yet no recalls have been done, not sure what they are waiting for, but these are very dangerous issues, why a lawsuit has. Not been filed??? please of there is a lawsuit im not aware off please post it, we all need safe cars to drive, also im curious have any of you Nitro owners have had Dodge trying to buy your car from you, I have had offer after offer, I find this something strange.

I clicked the unlock button on my key and the horn started blowing constantly, doors were locking and unlocking, wipers were going really fast with washer fluid going everywhere. I crank it up thinking it would stop. It all kept going. I cut the key off and took the key out. The engine kept running, the horn was still blowing, wipers still going with washer fluid spraying and door locking and unlocking. I took the battery cable loose and this all kept going on! it ran for about 5 more minutes and then stopped. I left the battery unhooked over night thinking it may reset. The next day I hooked the battery up and it ran fine for 1 day. All of the same problems started again one morning while heading to work. Then it started doing it on me while going down the road one night on a major hwy!! I have had it in 2 dealerships and they both are not sure whats wrong. But I had to pay them to look at it and give me no answer!! the last one told me to just drive it and when it done it again bring it to them and they will look at it again. I have been without a vehicle for 2 weeks now and still no answers. All while still having to pay someone to tell me nothing, I just went and got it yesterday from the Dodge dealership. It acted fine last night but on the way to work this am it started acting up again while driving it on a major hwy while raining, the wipers were spraying fluid everywhere, then they just stopped while its pouring down. The doors started unlocking and locking by themselves. The horn did not start blowing this time because the dealership unhooked it yesterday. I have googled problems with this and it all shows a faulty tipm. They have recalled the tipm in the newer models of the Dodge Nitros but not in the 2008s. It will cost $900 to replace the part!!! I can not afford this!! I shouldn't have to pay this when it is the company's fault this is very dangerous!.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro 4x4. The contact stated that the windshield wipers seized. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the relay switch needed to replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who dealer diagnoised that the relay module needed to be updated. The vehicle was not repaired however, the vehicle's windshield wipers malfunctioned and all 4 doors to the vehicle would lock automatically when the contact would accelerate vehicle . The contact was informed that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 09v438000 (visibility) which states that the relays and modules would be updated and repaired. The mechanic informed the contact that the module not only needed to be updated but needed to be replaced. The dealer did not diagnose the vehicle once the failure recurred to identify any further repairs. The vehicle's repair was not completed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000. Gl.

2007 Dodge Nitro slt - car sitting in driveway overnight the vehicle listed, on multiple occasions, will go into a state where attempting to start the vehicle causes multiple odd things to simultaneously happen: loud clicking noises can be heard from engine compartment headlights / tail lights flash wipers start and stop randomly all dash lights randomly turn on and off radio clock is reset to 12:00 as if the battery was disconnected radio sometimes randomly turns on/off fuel pump can be heard starting and stopping, sometimes will not stop sometimes putting a battery charger on the car's battery will make it start. Sometimes it only makes the clicking louder, along with random other events listed above. Sometimes the only thing that fixes the problem is a thump with a small rubber mallet to the black box just to the rear of the main 12 volt battery. This seems to be more likely to happen in colder weather, but is not limited to happening during cold weather. Sometimes, just unlocking the car doors with the Dodge key fob will cause some issues to happen. Sometimes the issues are followed up with check engine light coming on, but when codes are pulled they are invalid codes (codes checked at dealer).

The wipers stopped working and the lights blink on and off while I was driving around a curve on a rainy night. Also the car wouldn't excellerate. When I pulled over I was almost hit by a truck. The electrical system comes on by itself and it's makes me afraid it will catch on fire. You can hear the motor and a loud clicking.

My 2008 Dodge Nitro would not unlock with the remote. I had to unlock it manually. Then the car would not start with the key. All the lights and everything we're working but the car would not start. Then all the sudden the horn went off the wipers were going off and the washer squirters were squirting and would not quit until I unhook the battery. I read a forum online that it could possibly be the tipm module which is located by the battery. I open the cover and pushed on all the fuses. I hook the battery back up and tried to start the car and it started. I'm glad this didn't happen while I was driving because god only knows what could have happened. I am afraid to drive the car until I know it is fixed. I've also read that there is recalls on these modules on several years in the Dodge Nitro. Even though there is no recall on my Nitro I am very concerned because this has been a big problem with other Nitros.

The horn sounds unexpectedly and usually when parked or moving slowly thru parking areas. Not only does this startle the driver, pedestrians could attempt to move away but into the vehicles path. There have also been incidents of the front door windows rolling down and the moonroof opening after the vehilce has been parked and secured. This presents a safety hazard to my wife who commutes to work and relies on her vehicle beening secure when she leaves after dark. Not to mention the risk of bad weather. These issues have occured at several random intervals and internet forums discuss the same and similar occurences. The date referenced is the most current horn incidence however my wife can't chase down a horn circuit to disable it and the horn is a required safety device.

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro. After starting the vehicle, the windshield wipers would erroneously activate and could not be turned off. We were on vacation in st augustine FL in the middle of an intersection getting ready to turn and the engine just completely shut off for no reason at all , thank goodness it was around 11:00 at night and there wasn't much traffic because we had a semi truck coming at us , luckily it started right back up and we got out of the way because it could have been a horrific accident ! this vehicle also sputters from time to time like the engine is going to die and also the windshield wipers come on by them selves for no reason !.

My thirteen year old daughter and I were leaving a store parking lot when I started the vehicle. After starting I attempted to turn on the air conditioning, blower motor would not work. While pulling onto the road horn started blaring, wipers fore and aft started going without being activated. Windshield wiper fluid spraying uncontrollable, again, without my activation. Pulled into a parking lot and shut of vehicle, all problems stated above persisted. Left parking lot in an attempt to get the vehicle the seven miles home. Halfway home, all problems stopped. Wipers stopped in complete vertical position, horn stopped blaring, washer fluid stopped spraying. Upon reaching home disconnected positive battery cable in an attempt to somehow "reboot" the system. After reconnecting cable, started vehicle and up to this point all seems normal, for now. In my opinion under different circumstances this could have been a very dangerous situation. I just purchased this vehicle three weeks ago and do not feel it is safe to drive if this should happen again, potentially causing injury to me, my family or the public in general.

On or about 6:51 am. 7/20 /2015 I started to go to work, and realize it just finish raining. Wind had started to move the tree's near me. And drop quiet a bit of water on my wind shield. So I responded by turning the wiper's on and to know effect at all they did not work. Since then the weather has not been favorable. It is the only vehicle I can use that is serviceable. No crash,fire or fatality.

This is my third incident with a faulty tipm on my 2008 Dodge Nitro slt. Lights, horns, front and rear wipers as well as the washer fluid spraying out of control. I remove the fuse for both the left and right horns to silence them, then remove the positive battery cable to reset the tipm. It has been successful so far. Looking for a replacement unit for preventive measures.

Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro 4x4. The contact stated that when she attempted to unlock the vehicle with the key fob the locks failed to disengage. The contact stated that the driver's side door had to be manually unlocked with the key. The contact stated that the master unlock button on the driver's side door failed and all of the doors had to be manually unlocked from inside of the vehicle causing the lift gate to not open. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the tipm module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Airbags: this vehicle has had a recall for a "ram" emblem being placed over the airbag such that it becomes a projectile in an airbag depleyment. Dodge makes it very difficult to avail of getting it removed. I am not close to the dealership, I am very busy and somewhat disabled. Since the first notice arrived in the mail-- maybe three years ago-- I have returned the notices with a request for them to send a tech to my home and make the repair. I see there has been at least one death due to this obvious flaw, butthey have not cared enough to answer. Why should I take a day so that they can fix this deadly "extra feature" of shrapnel being placed over an explosive? electrical: this is a serious safety issue that Dodge will not recognize or even discuss. Getting the window back up is a matter of finessing the "up" switch every which way, multiple attempts required (switch has now fallen out). Very distracting, after going through a toll booth after dark and 15 degrees. You can't stop and f with it, you have to do it on the move. It can take as long as five minutes to get it back up (window now completely disabled). They will do anything to save seventeen cents per car, who cares if it makes it unsafe for the owner. Not Dodge! I wrote to Dodge (no reply), then the mi attorney general about this, they responded "we have written to this manufacturer twice and have not received a response". Dodge takes no responsibility for their shoddy work. We pay, we die, they keep doing what they do. It disappoints that even the ag's "consumer protection division" has no teeth. Visibility: it would be interesting to learn how many pedestrians have been hit with this particular model. With all the safety regs out there, it's amazing that a design that blocks visibility gets a pass. Unfortunately it is not the kind of thing you can discover in a test drive, but - crosswalks and four-way stops in particular are dangerous. You can hide a ryder truck behind these a pillars.

I walked out to my car one morning to make a trip into town. The instant I opened the door the horn started blaring without a pause, the windshield wipers both front and rear were running on their top speed. I have absolutely no control over the car. I cant even get it out of park to have a tow truck pick it up. The gauge cluster says "no bus" and the only culprit I can think of would be the famous Dodge tipm.

The wind shield wiper will not turn off , the turn signals don't work and the high beams of the car does not work. I have contacted Chrysler Dodge last week they have stated it is not a safety recall. My question is would this be a safety issue? thank you.

The windshield wipers ran as fast as they could without us being able to shut them off. We had no turn signals or headlights. This was diagnosed as a faulty tipm. We paid $1100 to have it replaced and reprogrammed.

The headlights stopped working. At first they would flash on and off. After 4 or 5 times of turning on the lights, they wouldn't even flash. We tried changing the fuses, but nothing worked. The lights remained inoperative until it rained. Once it rained, all of a sudden the lights started operating normally. This pattern has continued for over a year. Sometimes the lights work and sometimes they don't. The dealer says it is a tipm problem. Apparently, this is a common problem with Dodge Nitros. We did have a mechanic replace the lights/turn signal lever in the car. The lights worked without issue for about 3 months. Now, they are not working again. And now we are having other issues such as the horn going off and the windshield wipers and washer fluid going off randomly and nothing I do will stop it. After about 5 minutes, everything stopped on its own. Thankfully, we were in a parking lot at the time. I can only imagine the danger if this happened while driving in heavy traffic or at a high rate of speed. This is a huge safety issue. Chrysler should recall this and repair the vehicles affected.

I was driving down the highway and my horn and lights start flashing and at the same time my windshield wipers and water started going off. As I slowed down and exited the highway I notice my air conditioning had gone off as well. I was lucky I was able to remain calm this was very scary especially with my 15 month old baby in the back seat. After I exited and turned off the car nothing stopped. I pulled out the key and the vehicle remained started with the horn, lights, windshield wipers and water remained on. I ended up popping the hood and undoing the battery to make it stop. After 5 minutes it tried to reconnect and it was still happening. I came back to the car after 30 minutes reconnected the battery and the car acted as normal.

This situation has happened quite a few time and has escalated over the time period. The first time I walked out to my car. I pressed the key to unlock it and the horn started honking, the windshield wipers and spray was going and the lights flashed. This lasted approx. 5 seconds. And stopped. The next incident occurred while driving down the fwy. Same symptoms occurred, but this time lasted approx. 30 seconds then stopped. The third incidence: same symptoms but would not stop. I opened up the hood, for some reason slapped the fuse box and it stopped but when I went to drive it would not shift from 2nd to 3rd. Gear. This kept happening with increasing frequency and duration. I took it in to the dealer. As I was waiting in line to check in, it happened. Everyone was stunned and amazed, and laughed at my possessed vehicle. Now they can't get it to happen while it is on the computer. It has been almost 2 weeks and I still don't have my car.

I pushed the unlock button on my key and opened the drivers side door to get in and that's when the problems began. The horn started blaring non stop, the front and rear windshield wipers were going at various speeds and my lights were flashing and the blinkers were going off. I tried to put my key in the ignition and tried to turn the vehicle on but nothing would happen. The car felt like it was on even though I hadn't turned it on but when I got out of the vehicle it definitely showed signs of being on. After just about 30 minutes everything stopped but my horn will no longer work and my check engine light remains on. This is the first occurrence so we will be taking it to the dealership that we got it from since we have only had the vehicle and been driving it for 2 days.

Windshield wipers start by itself once vehicle is started even though they are switched off. The only way to correct is to disconnect the battery cable and reconnect. This has been happening intermittently since purchasing the vehicle in 2011 but has been occurring more frequently in the past year. I am concerned that the problem could get worse or occur while driving the vehicle thus causing an injury or accident.

Back driver side window has came off the track twice in about 12 months, replaced motor, still did it. Every time I fill up with gas it spills out all over the car and ground. The windshield wipers only work on high some of the time. Driver side door handle broke off, very expensive to fix!.

Wife was driving home from a dinner date with a friend, we were on the phone with each other when the horn started going crazy, wipers rear and front started running on their own spitting out washer fluid, door locks going crazy, both horns going off consitantly, and accelerator not working properly. She pulled over and shut the vehicle off. Everything continued to happen she removed the key from ignition and same result. I told her to try door locks on keychain no change, tried panic alarm on key chain and still nothing. She did not have tools to disconnect battery. After a few minutes it stopped. She made it home safely without any injuries except sever panic and anxiety. When this happened first thing I did was get online and look for issues. Apparently this is a commonly known issue by Chrysler. The tipm is bad. Many people reported having same issue. Chrysler wants to rip you off cause its a dealer only item. Known issue and yet no recall was ever issued. I contacted Chrysler they said per the VIN they could not authorize any repairs except for the current recall that is active. This could have led to a serious accident. Especially when you hit the brakes and not slow down at all and have to use emergency brake. So now we are stuck with a vehicle non op and dont have $1000 to fix a known issue by Chrysler. I will never buy another Chrysler product. I will be in touch with them again to seek repairs.

The tipm failed in my 2008 Dodge Nitro cause me to lose shifting capability. I lost all control of electrical features. The window wipers, fluid, horn were all on and uncontrollable. I turned the car off but it kept running. The door locks locked and unlocked randomly. The tipm malfunctioned on my car. Which causes me driving down the interstate to lose electronics, horn stayed on, wipers stayed on and my car downshifted and would not up shift. I had to swerve to the side of the highway to avoid being hit. The dealership saw the car in person while all the electronic parts were going haywire. Then car would not shut off even with the key out of the ignition. The battery had to be disconnected. This could have been a major accident on the highway in rush hour.

Took car in for repairs in regards to the windshield wiper recall in January 2013. Trusting that bergeron Dodge took care of the recalled issue; I never expected my windshield wipers to stop working all together. On the morning of Friday, may 3, during my commute to work, my windshield wipers stopped working on all pause settings. Since it was raining profusely that morning, the higher setting was okay to use. As of today, I cannot drive the Nitro because the wipers have stopped working all together and is now a hazard to drive during the rain. Not only do I feel the problem was not repaired in January, but the dealership wants to charge me $50 to look at the wipers. I am utterly and totally disgusted, for the simple fact I had to pay $150 at the time of the recall for bergeron Dodge to inform me on the price to fix the brakes, replace driver side window regulator (broke while under warranty/told by dealership part was not covered under warranty), and repair heat shield that just fell off in January 2013; now I have to pay more money for them to tell me they never repaired a part that was suppose to be repaired.

Upon disarming the alarm/unlocking doors the wipers, sprayers, lights, and horn went off. I unlocked the door with the key and tried to start the car to disable and it wouldnt. When I removed the key from the ignition it kept running as well. It would not shut off. With the key in the engine wouldnt shut off either, nor get out of park. We disabled the battery. . . Nothing. Finally disabled the alternator and it stopped, only to start again when we plugged it alll back in. There have been various occations that the wipers have turned on when unlocking the doors in the past. Along with quite a few times upon starting with a turn of the key you must turn it twice for it to engage. This has been in for service and they couldnt find a problem at the dealer either time I took it in. This car is a hazard and cant imagine if it happed driving as in a previous story I saw. Unfortunately, none of this happens while still under warranty and if it does, they cant find a problem.

The windshield wipers either won't come on at all or will continually move all over the windshield as you drive. The wiper malfunction is extremely worse if you have the headlights on and use the turn signal. This causes them to quickly fully extend to the very edge of the windshields drivers side. This causes extreme visibility problems. The Dodge dealership has not been able to fix the problem after several visits and multiple attempts of replacing parts including the turn signal wand and the entire wiper assembly. The mechanic said Dodge recommended replacing the tipm, which the manufacturer was aware of a huge problem with this part on Nitros. After doing some research I could not believe all the complaints with no action being taken by Chrysler or the government for my model year. Recalls were issued for older years, so why not the 2008 with the same problems? I can't safely drive my car with my vision constantly comprimised and I can't even sell it with all the horrible reviews. Now it just sits in my driveway because I am too nervous to drive it with these problems.

My 2008 Dodge Nitro's electrical system is operating on its own. It seems like it is possessed. On several occassions (at least 10 incidents) for the past few months the following occurs. The front & back windshild wipers start operating by themselves. They go fast & then sometimes they move in a stop & go method. The rhythm of the wipes is random but its common to see them do a partial wipe,then pause, another partial wipe, then pause and keeps repeating. Then all of a sudden it will go fast. The windshield washer sprayer shoot fluid (front & back) on its own, until the tank is empty. The horn goes off non stop. It just goes & goes & goes. The horn & the windshield wipers seem to operate as one. Hazard lights are blinking constantly. The light above the trunk door is blinking. The signal lights stay illuminated. The doors lock/unlock repeatedly. On the dashboard the h. A. S. And the slick road icon illuminate. This occurs while I'm parked or driving. It occurs whether the keys are in the ignition or not. There seems to be a relation between using the remote unlock & a incident occuring. Yet, it happens also when I unlock the door manually. Based on other customer complaints from this message board, they are being told its the tipm or total intergrated power module that is causing the madness. Dealerships & Chrysler/Dodge corporate has told them the part is on back order. Basicaly they have got the run around and not received any help.
