Engine Cooling System problems of the 1996 Dodge RAM

Three problems related to engine cooling system have been reported for the 1996 Dodge RAM. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/1999

The brakes have not been 100% since I purchased this vehicle. I took the vehicle to the dealer at41,000 miles and complained about low pedal . I was told that the pads and shoes were fine. At about 50,000 miles, the brake booster failed and the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. Squealing noise from under the hood was found to be the water pump.

2 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 09/20/1996

Loose vaccum pump.

3 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/1996

Freeze plugs are leaking and after repairs they are still leaking. Was told by dealer that it was caused by sand left in the block after casting and the plugs are corroding. Last time in they put a stop leak in the system and it has slowed down the coolant consumption to about a pint every 3 months. I feel they have not corrected the problem but delayed it until there is a problem at a future date.
