Brake Foundation Components problems of the 1997 Dodge RAM

Nine problems related to brake foundation components have been reported for the 1997 Dodge RAM. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Foundation Components problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2002

When applying brakes, only half of brakes were appyling pressure to rotors. Consumer performed repairs to vehicle. The ridge in casting keeps the caliper from floating freely applying pressure only to the piston side of the caliper.

2 Brake Foundation Components problem

Failure Date: 11/21/1998

While driving at highway speeds, brakes are soft wehn applied, and the pedal goes straight to the floorboard, causing vehicle to not stop. Consumer had to keep his foot down on the brakes until the vehicle came to a stop.

3 Brake Foundation Components problem

Failure Date: 05/28/1998

While driving about 5 mph and stepping on the brake pedal, brakes make a grinding noise metal to metal and lock up the front tires. When this happens could lose control of vehicle.

4 Brake Foundation Components problem

Failure Date: 10/20/1997

When the brakes are applied the vehicle sways to the left or to the right. Also, experiences extended stopping distance. The dealer has been notified four times.

5 Brake Foundation Components problem

Failure Date: 06/06/1997

When applying the brakes under any circumstances, the truck swerves to the left or right, more to the left. The dealer has attempted to repair the problem (6) times. Problem still exists.

6 Brake Foundation Components problem

Failure Date: 06/03/1997

Extended stopping distance.

7 Brake Foundation Components problem

Premature wear of the brakes causes them to overheat, and makes it difficult to stop vehicle. Dealer has been contacted.

8 Brake Foundation Components problem

A rapid wear of pads and rotors.

9 Brake Foundation Components problem

When applying the hydraulic brakes, in type of weather or speed, the vehicle is pulling to the right. The right pulling has been corrected but the vehicle now pulls to the left.
