Hood Latch Problems of Dodge RAM - part 1

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Ram. While driving 55 mph the hood of the vehicle opened, which impaired his visibility. He was able to safely drive to the emergency lane and temporarily secure the hood in a latched position. A mechanic, upon inspection concluded that the hood latch failed. He was in the process of having the vehicle repaired. The failure and current mileages were 120,000.

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Ram . While driving 40 mph the hood un latched and slammed against the windshield. Upon further inspection she noticed that the hood latch had fractured. No repairs were made. The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. The failure and current mileages were 160,000.

The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Ram. The contact stated that the secondary latch on the hood failed. While driving approximately 25 mph and greater, the vibrations from the uneven pavement cause the hood to open a couple of inches. The latch has not been repaired. Nhtsa campaign id number 01v040000 (latches/locks/linkages:hood:latch) is related to the failure, however, the dealer stated that he was a month late for the recall repair. The VIN, purchase date, and engine size were unknown. The current mileage was 163,000 and failure mileage was 162,000.

- the contact has a 1997 Dodge Ram with an odometer reading of 70000. On 12-18-06 while driving in dry weather conditions at 25 mph the hood unlatched. The contact was able to move to the side of the road without a crash. The contact found that there was recall (01v040000). He then took the car to the dealer, and they took pictures of the vehicle and sent them to the manufacturer. They told the contact that they were no longer liable for the recall because they notified him, and he did not have it repaired. : the contact stated there is NHTSA recall 01v040000 regarding the hood latch. The secondary hood latch failed and allowed the hood to open striking the windshield and blocking the contact's view while driving 60 mph. With very limited visibility the contact managed to pull over. The contact tied the hood down with rope because the secondary hood latch was inoperable. 2001 Ram hood safety latch malfunctioned. The consumer contacted the manufacturer about this malfunction. While driving 30-40 mph the hood came open and smashed into the windshield. The consumer believes he should be reimbursed for this malfunction because a the latch of the 1994-1999 Dodge Ram had been recalled and he believes they have the same latch.

While driving. The hood of the vehicle completely opened up. There is a recall number 01v040000/hood latch. Please provide any further information.

Front hood flew open while driving 40-50 mph, causing damages to the hood and the hood hinges. Dealer was not notified.

Hood latch popped open while driving. Was able to pull over to the shoulder, closed the hood, and drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic informed consumer that this vehicle was not recalled.

(1) 2001 Dodge Ram hood latch corrosion (2) hood latch released while driving in rush hour traffic on highway going 60 mph. Blinded by hood when it flew up. Hood completely damaged, windsheild cracked and cab of truck damaged (3) daimlerchrysler claims no responsibity even though this part was recalled on prior years Rams. I have to make insurance claim and have truck repaired and new hood latch installed.

While driving 45 mph hood flew up and smashed the windshield. This caused the driver's vision to be distorted. After traveling on the highway for approx. 45 minutes, the consumer drove around a traffic circle. After exiting the circle, the hood flew up. Trying to get off the road, the consumer almost slammed into a parked vehicle all because the safety latch failed.

While driving 60 mph, hood flew open because secondary latch broke, vehicle at dealership at this time. The secondary hood latch had bent back towards the firewall so that it became totally inoperative, thats when the primary latch failed, the hood opened suddenly with no warning.

Consumer received notification that his vehicle was affected by recall 01v040000 concerning hood latch. Dealership was refusing to replace hood latch as described by corrective action for this recall. Please provide any additional information / attachments.

Vehicle was going 35mph and hood flew up. Vehicle is not driveable because latches will not catch. Dealer will not assist because there is no recall.

While driving 45 mph hood unexpectedly flew up, cause unknown. Hood failure caused $500 in damages.

While driving hood flew up, causing damage to the vehicle. A recall has been issued on vehicle's make and model; however, this vehicle is not included due to VIN. The manufacturer has inspected vehicle. During inspection inspector showed consumer where latch and secondary latches were rusted, the secondary latch once opened would not spring back into position.

Was driving on e-way going 70 miles per hour which is the speed limit when hood flew up and smashed into windshield the hood has not been open since Nov. 21st ,2000 when I had the oil changed and this happened on Feb. 1st, 2001 there was no indication that the hood had been released and when we pulled on the release lever inside truck the latch under the hood does not move there are no broken parts on the latch either.

Consumer was traveling about 55mph on the highway and hood popped off and hit windshield. Safety latch has a defect on it.

Recall 95v-056 000/hood assembly: latches. While traveling on the street at approximately 25 mph the hood popped open. If this had happened at highway speed, hood could have opened and obstructed the driver's vision, increasing the potential of an accident. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not part of recall due to VIN.

Vehicle has antil-lock brakes. When consumer applies brakes brake pedal goes to the floor, and there is pulsation within the brakes. Also, transmission doesn't have speed/gears slip, and there is a leak underneath the hood.

Hood latch failed however secondary latch held hood down.

Hood assembly: driving approximately 45mph down highway when suddenly the hood flew up on the vehicle. Safety latch did not work . Engineer came out and looked at vehicle and felt that it was not their responsibility.

Was driving down a country road at 60mph and the hood of my 1996 Dodge chose to fly up. Fortunately, all I did was take the ditch and a gaurd rail. Could have been much worse. Chrysler said they turned it over to an investigation group back in early may. Still no word!.
