Transmission Failure problems of the 1996 Dodge Ram 1500

1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2006

Truck purchased used at dealership in 2000. Transmission rebuilt in 2002. Transmission failed in 2006.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2001

Transmission failed to go from 2nd to 3rd gear. Dealer notified. Please feel free to provide any further detail on this matter.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2000

Poor/loss of acceleration, shifting at high rpm's, hot floor boards. The generic transmission fluid used by Dodge (1996) deteriorated the bands in the "transmission causing them to slip and fail is my opioion of why the transmission failed.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/01/1999

Automatic transmission fails to shift into 3rd gear at any speed. Fails to shift into reverse when vehicle warm. Problem began intermittently but got progressively worse. Took to dealer 7/99 and was unable to diagnose. Dealer informed me transmission would need to be removed at my expense to complete diagnosis and repair. Have seen numerous similar complaints in your database and feel this is an obvious defect and should be subject to a recall.

5 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/01/1998

Transmission failure. Also premature wear of brakes and always pull to the left.

6 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/01/1997

Transmission failure 1/00 ; original eq chrome rims bent, dealer says metal in rim was inferior. Did not offer to replace it.

7 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/01/1996

Transmission failed.
