general problems of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

I recently figured out a problem with my truck that is an extreme danger. When you fill up the fuel tank at any gas station, it seems that the fuel enters the vapor canister and makes the engine stall for about a mile before it starts running properly. After several close encounters after filling the tank, I looked upon other threads of Dodge ram owners and found this to be a common problem that was never addressed by Chrysler and never acted upon by nhta. Please look into this and advise a course of action to have Chrysler repair this problem. . It is a matter of time before either I or another with the same problem are seriously injured or killed due to this defect. Many thanks in advance!!.

My family has owned 3 5. 7 hemi vehicles all ranging from the years of 2002-2006 and they have all had the engine randomly seize up on us while driving almost causing major accidents, two of these vehicles are still owned one in an auto shop. I do not believe that this is a coincidence, I believe this is a manufacturer fault that needs to answer to and possibly pay back everyone effected by this event. The auto shop I have the truck at is lott's auto in junction city, KS and they themselves know of this fault as well. This needs to be answered to, it is a safety issue and a waste of money to people who trust Dodge with these vehicles, the auto shop informed me this is with the 5. 7 hemi from all years between 2000-2011. Please investigate this and hold Dodge accountable.

After filling truck, and not topping off, the truck engine will "die" when making a right turn. This has been happening after every fill-up now. I have to put it in neutral then it will restart. This is a dangerous situation but I handle it well. Our Dodge caravan did the same same thing in 2016 and Dodge replaced the fuel tank, filter canisters. It cured the problem. I just called Dodge and they logged my problem but that was it! anyone else having this problem. It does not throw a code by the way! can anyone help? the vehicle was in motion, city street etc. I have a new engine and the problem was the same afterwords. They found no problem on test drives.

A malfunction in the under hood engine compartment caused a fire which destroyed the engine, front of the vehicle and severely damaged the interior. The vehicle was parked on my driveway and had not been started nor driven in over 24 hours up to the time the incident occurred.

My vehicle has been turning off lately, while in traffic, making turns or parking. My car loses rpms, the lights dim, and then the car cuts off. I have to put the car in park, turn it off, and restart the engine and proceed on to my destination. This has happened to be repeatedly over the past two years, I don't feel safe being in my truck.

However, the parts needed to repair the vehicle were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 157,000. Parts distribution disconnect and VIN tool confirms parts unavailable.

Driving down the road at about 35 mph and all of a sudden I had no power to my brakes or steering and the engine stopped. I managed to pull over placed it in park and it started right up. All electrical components remained working at the time of the incident. This scenario has happened multiple times and is a major safety issue. On a different occasion I was sitting at stop light and it turned green took my foot off of the brake and pushed the accelerator the and the truck rolled backwards and almost hit the vehicle behind me since there was a slight decline towards the rear of the truck. Again all electrical was fine, but the engine quit. For all scenarios I did not even know the engine stopped besides the brakes and steering had no power. The engine just simply stopped running,.

Driving on the road went to stop light truck died when came to complete stop. Started up and then went to stop sign down road and it started to idle down to 250rpms the engine caught and idle back to about 500rpms. Went to gym next day while backing in to parking spot going idle speed the truck idled low and died. Now it idles about 250rpms and some times truck shakes had license mechanic change plugs and wires for the hemmi motor and still does it today (04-27-20015). The only difference is that in park it stays at idle some times about 500rpms but does tend to go to 250rpms.

Just like everyone else who owns a Dodge,I went to fuel up the truck and it went all over the ground rather than in the tank. . . Took it to the dealer. . . Check valve bad. . . Need new tank. . . . Never buy Dodge again. .

My truck over heated because of that my motor broke into many pieces I had it towed to a Dodge dealership. I was told that, that doesn't happen often but it most had be a default with my motor. . . Could you please get back in contact with me. Thank you.

While driving in my neighborhood at 25 mph vehicle lost power and didnt want to take the gas then cut off. Would not restart , engine would rotate but not start. Pumped the accelrator then engine restarted and ran rough with no power . Had vehicle towed to dealership to be check. I was told that the engine was blown . When I check the dash the throttle elec. Light was on.

Oncoming vehicle lost control came across 4 lanes to hit front of truck. Dodge is totaled but air bags did not deploy. I contacted Dodge to have them check them out and was told, first a special task force would come check the airbags and we would be compensated, then later was told due to the age and mileage of my truck they wouldn't but I could take it to a Dodge dealership and see if they would run the test at my expense. Dodge didn't seem to care why air bags didn't go off since the truck is 10 years old.

While drivng 55 mph the vehicle just died out I had to coast over to the side of the road. The truck lost all power. Once I stopped the truck, I put in park and turned off the igninition, I was able to continue driving. The dashboard light showing a symbol of a lightening bolt, after researching I see some comments of it being a wire harness or tranny loose wiring, had truck looked at several times and wires were checked, but the truck still dies out. This has happened 5 times since 2013 always while dring more than 3 hours. I no longer take the truck on long trips, it is a very dangerous problem, I was thankful I was able to pull over on shoulder evrytime.

2004 Dodge Ram 1500 slt hemi rack blowing seals this is going to kill someone 3 in 15000 miles I hope my wife is not driving with my son it is impossible to steer when this happens. . . . . . . . . . . . This problem is well know why is it not fixed its also very expensive.

Truck shuts off while driving - I had to stand on the brakes and steering was almost impossible. This happened while attempting to merge onto early morning traffic in i95 in ft lauderdale where everybody is going 70-75 mph. If that truck had hit me, I and several others around me would have died. We were just plain lucky. I had it towed to the dealer and they found nothing wrong. This happened about a dozen times and I kept fixing things which were not broken before I did a little research and found out this truck is famous for this problem. 2 dealers will not even return my calls when I start to discuss this problem. They either know about this problem and do not want to get involved or realize this cannot be fixed. I have to drive this vehicle across florida to bring it back to where I purchased it. My brother is flying down from boston to follow me in case I have trouble. If delaer gives me a negative response I am planning on suing Chrysler and the dealer as I really believe they knew about this problem when they sold me the truck there are hundreds of others with the same exact issue with the same exact truck. Why has NHTSA not done something?.

Since 2004 my 2004 Ram 1500 hemi has died numerous times (have dated, weather, time, and intersections). It is impossible to tell you how often because this engine has a mind of it's own. I have had my computer chip "flashed" by Dodge dealerships at least twice and currently it is at tom matson Dodge in auburn wa 98002 because in the last month has died four times. They called with a report today, "did not die on us, come back and pick it up".

When truck idles the engine cuts off. This happens about once every 20 mile trip. Truck has been in for repair with nothing found.

Engine died twice in 2 1/2 years total loss of steering a 240 lbs man can not turn the wheel after engine dies brakes work fine just no steering.

I bought my truck used approximately Dec 1, 2005 with 49,500 km on the odometer. It is a 2004 Dodge quad cab 1500 with a 5. 7l hemi engine. Approximately 3 weeks ago the engine stopped. I was driving along a residential street at between 20 and 30 km/hr. My foot was barely on the accelerator and the engine stopped. There was no warning (I. E. No hesitation, stumbling or mis-fire). No dash lights came on. I pulled over, put it in park and the engine started up right away with no problems afterward. It was approximately ã‚10 or ã‚12c temperature outside and had gone to ã‚20c overnight. I had a full tank of gas and my throttle body had been serviced in the previous 2 weeks. The engine was reasonably warm, but I had only been driving for approximately 5 minutes at low speeds. Odometer was about 56,000km. The truck was into Chrysler service on Feb 24 and I mentioned that the engine stopped to the service manager. I asked if he had heard of anyone else complaining of this problem. He said he had never heard of any complaints. Today (Feb 28, 2006), the engine stopped again. The temperature outside was approximately ã‚10c and had gone to about ã‚13 or ã‚15c overnight. Same symptoms. I had driven for about 5 minutes, light accelerator, speed of about 20 to 30 km/hr and was in heavy traffic. I put it in neutral and the engine started right up without any problems. No dash lights came on. Odometer is about 59,000 km.

Turning on off ramp about 30 mph. Truck stopped running. Shifted out of drive started motor again.

At certain speeds the truck is choking down, not getting enough gas. At time the vehicle operates as if it's not getting enough fuel. The gas mileage has also been drastically reduced.
