1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2016

My 05 Dodge ram has been stalling in traffic at low speeds regularly of late. It also happened recently while parked for the first time. It ocasionally (1 failure out of 7) gives an error code and check engine light which reads as a bad crank shaft position sensor. I have put 3 on in the last 2 years. It started as intermitent and has become a steady issue. Truck has never run hot, no noises from engine to indicate a bad bearing or mis alignement. Wheel teeth are not broken or worn and there is not buildup of flakes or shavings anywhere that would be causing a fualty signal. Wiring rings out as good. Replacing the sensor was allowing normal operation for a short period but it is re-occuring at a faster rate each time. Truck does, so far, continue to resart almost imediately but still presents considerable risk in heavy traffic conditions. This was looked at previously and TSB 18-013-05 was released as a "fix. " it has not been a successful fix as the issues continue to re-occur with what apears to be a fairly alarming rate. Truck currently has 160,750 miles on it. The last 3 sensors were installed in 2 years and less than 20,000 miles.

3 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2015

The first time this happened, I was turning at an intersection and the truck just stalled. No warning or check engine light nothing. I had no power steering or brakes. Luckily no one hit us or we didn't hit anyone. My husband and brother pushed the truck into a near by parking lot. After about 20 min. The truck started back up. Three days later I was driving down the street pulling a trailer. The truck stalled again I was able to get it to roll into a parking lot. It started back up. We took it to a mechanic. He couldn't find a code on it. This continued to happen quite often. The mechanic finally changed out a sensor , that cost us $385. 00. After a week the check engine light came on. The machanic said the code could be several things and I don't have the money to keep changing things that are not working. So now if I let my fuel tank get down less than a half tank the truck misses and tries to cut out like its not getting enough fuel. I can't even drive it because I am afraid it will stall and I am a small women. I can't fight it with no power steering and brakes.

5 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

I started to get a rough idle condition on my Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab with the 5. 7 hemi motor and auto trans. Now intermittently over the past several month the truck stalls when going from reverse to drive. . . Though not that dangerous an inconvenience. The dangerous part is when I sometimes pull into traffic the truck will start forward as it should then the motor will just die causing loss of brake and steering functions. I am getting no engine codes or check engine light. I have even hooked the truck up to a computer with no codes detected. Recently I went to pull into traffic onto a road that was 35mph and the motor again died. Luckily the driver heading toward my driver side door slammed on their brakes and allowed me to put the truck in neutral restart it and get it out of the other vehicle's lane of travel. The throttle body has been cleaned the spark plugs have been changed with no luck and the problem persists. This is a link to just (1) website of many that I found that shows this is clearly not isolated to my vehicle. . Read more...

6 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2009

Vehicle stalls suddenly while traveling, with no warning, the engine light doesn't come on or anything. You have to stop and put it in park to restart (tried to restart in neutral-doesn't work). When it shuts off, there is no power steering or brakes, but luckily it usually starts up fairly quickly because it is very scary when you are on the highway. Have taken it to the Dodge dealership twice and they said "they have no idea what it is".

7 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2007

I am having a few problems with my truck for the past year. 1) my truck will stall out or have a dip in the rpm's when stopping at a stop sign or stop light. 2) the big problem I have happens once every 1-2 months. I will be driving my truck and all of a sudden the check engine light will flash and the truck has no power at all. The gas pedal will be on the floor and the truck will have no response. The thing that I am worried about is if this problem happens on the freeway and I get into a big car accident. I brought the truck into 2 different Dodge dealerships and they both said the same thing. "whatever is happening isn't being copied to the computer and while our mechanics took it out for a test drive the problem didn't happen. " they said the only way they would be able to diagnose the problem is if it happened while they drove it. So they couldn't do anything fix the problem.
