Steering Wheel Vibrate problems of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Four problems related to steering wheel vibrate have been reported for the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2015

The frame on my Dodge ram has broken welds on both sides of the frame where the lower control arms mount to the frame. They have failed due to manufacturing defects during the welding process. The truck has never been wrecked, driven off road, or done any towing. Dodge refuses any assistance in replacing the frame because it has aged out of their warranty. The truck has 74,138 miles on it and is not drivable without a new frame. I had the truck in twice under warranty service for drivability issues under braking and steering over bumps. Neither time were the cracks in the frame found or addressed. Every time the brakes are applied, the steering wheel shakes uncontrollably and is unsafe to drive. I found the damage while changing the oil and was about to replace the frt hub bearing assembly on the passenger side since the driver's side had already failed and had been replaced earlier. Contacted Chrysler and was told that my truck had aged out of warranty, but that taking it to a dealer they would be able to find a technical service bulletin that may cover it. I googled TSB's and found one on the 2006 Dodge ram frames for the exact same area affected on my truck, but Dodge still won't address this issue. I've been dealing with this for over six months and want my truck fixed or replaced.

2 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2015

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that there was a sudden loss of power steering causing the steering wheel to shake and vibrate intermittently. The contact mentioned that the vehicle stalled several times and the contact was able to restart the vehicle which reset the computer. The vehicle was not inspected or diagnosed by an authorized dealer. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 10e013000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

3 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2008

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab. This truck was bought new of the lot and has a steering issue. The steering wheel vibrates while turning at slow speeds like parking and whatnot. I have had the truck to the dealer twice for this and am told that it is common on the 2005 trucks. I was told that the dealer could not do anything to fix it and they could not get authorization from Chrysler to do anything. This truck is under full warranty and with this issue I can't sell it or anything. This is a $35,000 lemon as far as I'm concerned, I also own a 2003 ram and have no issues with it. One more thing the dealer told me that this issue is due to the size of the tires that are factory installed. I have tried to call there customer service and all I get is some one in india that just can not do anything for me. And will not let me talk to some one here in America. Can you help me before the warranty runs out?.

4 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2006

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 15v313000 (air bags) and 14v796000 (power train); however, the parts needed to perform the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure related to the recalls. In addition, the steering wheel vibrated when making a left turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. While driving at low speeds, the vehicle stalled. Once restarted, the vehicle would resume normal operation. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 12,000.
