3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2022

I purchased my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 truck around may 2022 at a used car lot. It had low mileage so I thought I did great. Immediately after I brought it home, it began to die. I figured it had a really old battery so I purchased a new one. This one would last around 3 days instead of the one day before dying. I would drive it and jump it over and over. I tried to contact the dealer over and over but they would not respond to my calls. I wrote a terrible review about them in yelp and they contacted me immediately, but when I attempted to schedule a time to drop the truck back off, they stopped responding again. About 9 months later the truck stopped turning over all together. We found that the fuel pump was the issue. It sat for a year until I had it towed to the mechanic, who fixed the fuel pump, but found that the car would only run for a few seconds. He continued to diagnose it, and after weeks, he tells me that there is something terribly faulty with the electrical system, but he is stumped as to what it is. He says he does not see where anyone has tampered with the system at all, but there is something mysterious about the electrical component. I have put so much money into this truck including having to pay insurance and a high monthly payment for a dead truck. Please help me. I can provide documents after I meet with mechanic who still has truck.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2016

For the past week my engine was difficult to start. Cranked for about 20 second before starting. Today the engine cranked but failed to start. After opening the hood and checking the battery I noticed a burning smell coming from the fuse box, tipm, which is located adjacent to the battery. I opened the cover to the tipm and noticed white powder, acid. The negative lead which is also connected to the outside of the tipm had white powder residue on the connector. I tried once again to start the vehicle but only cranked. Then some smoke was observed coming from the tipm. I immediately stopped and made sure nothing was still burning. I read on line that tipm failure is common with my vehicle and other Chrysler products but a recall was not issued. This could have turned into a safety issue if my vehicle began to catch fire. I have to spend $100 in towing cost and ~$800 to repair.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2015

While driving at various speeds and also sitting at an idle, the truck tries to engage 4wd low. Dealership has replaced the front actuator, flashed the tipm on 8/28/15. Didn't leave the dealers lot and the truck was still shifting into 4wd on its own. Back to the garage it went. I would have thought the truck would have a built in safety so that it can not shift into 4wd low at high speeds. . . Been told it could be the ac pressure switch, tipm, transfer case actuator motor. Awaiting transfer case motor to be replaced at the moment. Still waiting for dealer to say that it is fixed. The truck is presenting unsafe driving conditions and the dealership can't find whats wrong with it. The problem still happens as of 9/20/15. Dealer has had my truck since 8/26/15 and still has it as of 9/20/15.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

While driving during normal road conditions, at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle will begin to shake and vibrate excessively. This usually occurs when a bump in the road is hit or when taking a curve in the road at the mentioned speed. Shaking and vibrating only decreases when vehicle speed is reduced below 50 mph. Have replaced shocks and in the process of replacing tie rod ends to see if this alleviates the issue. Have also experienced issues with the vehicle shutting off during normal operation, the will sputter and stall out when coming to a stop, this issue has occurred four times in the past.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

While driving down the road at 45 mph I let off the gas to slow down when the truck started to lunge forward then stop then continued to lunge forward it repeated this process for a while. When I pressed on the gas it was fine only when I let off it. After about 5 miles the check engine light came on went to autozone had the code reed. The map sensor was bad so I replaced it myself. A week later driving down the road the truck began doing the same thing, only this time at a stop light the engine shut off. The steering wheel locked up as well as the brakes. I was able to get it restarted but it nearly caused an accident. Went down the road about 1/2 a mile when he died and I was unable to restart it. Had it towed to a Dodge dealership who said the map sensor was once again bad. They replaced the map sensor this time and everything was well for about 2 weeks. When once again the truck did the same thing. Took it back to the same dealership once again the fault code was the map sensor. Upon them digging further they found the pcm was actually shorting out the map sensor. So they replaced the pcm. The new one came in and they weren't able to reprogram it. They contacted daimler-chyrsler who sent them another pcm they received that one and still are unable to reprogram the pcm. So that's 3 map sensor's and now 2 pcm's.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2014

Arrived at work and parked vehicle a little after 6:00am. Went on my bus run and at about 7:45am I received a call to return to the transportation center. When I arrived the fire department was there along with the sheriffs, that's when I saw my truck. At this point the fire was out and my trucks engine department was totally gone. The only thing that was left was the block. I informed my insurance company who was very quick and whom I was very pleased with. I also made several calls to Chrysler corp. , talked to several people who always told me they were taking notes and would call me back the next day or so and never heard from them. Today I talked to someone in the legal dept. And was told that my truck was out of warranty and they were not liable for anything. I am very glad it was not parked in my garage at the time of the fire or that I was driving it. I am in the market for another truck but have doubts about another Dodge. I was looking for a little reassurance from Chrysler but as you can see I received very little to none.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

As I was rounding a curve and approaching train tracks, truck lost power. The engine shut off and I had no power steering. I was able to turn the wheel enough to stay on the road and coast over the train tracks. Since then my headlights sometimes flicker on and off at night while driving. Took truck to dealer and was informed it was the tipm and would cost over $900. I don't have the money so I am forced to drive it as is.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2013

On the evening of August the 18th I went to a convenience store approximately 1 mile from my home. I did smell an odor of something burning when I exited the truck but it dissipated quickly. I went into the store to purchase milk and when I returned to my truck the entire cab was filled with smoke and a strong odor of something burning. The keys were not in the ignition at the time. I looked through the cab but could not locate the source. I opened the hood of my truck and there were no signs what so ever of smoke or fire. I went back to the cab and inspected the back seat area of the truck. (quad cab) I noticed a faint orange glow against the lower body of the truck. I started to inspect the left rear door panel and felt the heat. When I grabbed the lower section of the interior panel melting and on fire plastic started to drip. I ran into the store and grabbed a fire extinguisher and put the fire out. Another customer at the store disconnected the battery. The truck was transported to the local Dodge dealership for repairs. Although the body shop stated the the source of the fire may not be able to be determined the technician working on my truck stated the source was an electrical short with the power window switch. The door and carpet will be replaced as well as any other parts damaged by the fire. I will have to pay the $500 comprehensive deductible. The panel for for that door has never been removed or tampered with in any way, shape, or form.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

When using the left turn signal the right signal sometimes flashes. Sometimes the left signal will flash for a few seconds, then the right signal will flash a few times. Failures are intermittent and inconsistent. Also, the wipers and washers operate intermittently, and the high beam switch works about 20% of the time, sometimes requiring a stop to actuate the switch repeatedly so as not to blind oncoming traffic.

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2012

When the left turn signal was tuned on, the indicator light inside and outside would indicate as such and then it would switch to the right turn signal even with the switch in the left turn signal position. Sometimes when the left turn signal was applied, it would switch to the right and then continue to switch back and forth from right to left.

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

The turn signals works sporadically I flip the signal left it will blink right and vice versa or they wont work at all at times also the hazard lights will not work. Along with these symptoms the windshield wipers will not work at the same times as the prior mentioned symptoms. I called the dealer to check vehicle recalls the service agent said there was not any recalls but this is a common complaint on the 2007 Dodge ram it is a very dangerous situation as it was raining during the last episode the visibility was extremely low and I was unable to properly let the other motorist my intention to merge out of traffic.

34 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab. I bought this vehicle approx. July 2011 and since I can remember, the vehicle has done the same thing. The problem is in the multi switch( windshield wipers, and turn signals). When I flip the turn signal down the right blinker will come on. This happens about 50% of the time when engaging that switch. In this same switch is the windshield wipers. This is also affected sometimes by not engaging them or not running correctly. This has caused me many problems and am worried it could result in a wreck.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

The multi-function switch, intermittently, when you push down to make a left turn goes to flash on the right side or visa versa if you sometimes hit the high beams it resume to normal but you have to play with it to make it work properly very dangerous afraid of getting into accident or being pulled over by law enforcement. Also, it functions fine 30% of the time but the rest of the time it functions as described above or not at all.
