Nine problems related to engine and engine cooling have been reported for the 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
On the afore mentioned date, I was operating vehicle on a 2 lane highway. When I attempted to pass a slower vehicle the transmission froze/locked into a lower gear, not allowing me to complete the pass of the other vehicle and there by forcing me to brake heavily to avoid a head on collision. I then returned the truck to the dealer whom I had just purchased from. As of this writing' they have neither found or corrected this issue.
The 2014 Ram 1500 sport I bought has had repeated dash and interior lighting problems. The dash lights randomly flicker or don't turn on at all. On some occasions no interior lights at all would work. The truck has been back to the dealership three times but still hasn't been repaired. The dealership has done software updates, re-grounded the electrical system and replaced the body control module without fixing the problem. In addition the remote start sometimes does not start the truck it locks the doors instead, the dealership has been unable to find a solution. I feel that the dial used to select the drive gear is a potential safety hazard. The dial is a similar size and shape as the comfort and radio controls and placed right next to other dash knobs. I believe that a driver could intend to change the radio station or turn the fan down but inadvertently take the truck out of gear. Overall this truck has serious electrical flaws and the possibility of being knocked out of gear while driving. The vehicle is not safe in my opinion.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the lights started to flash on and off and the vehicle started bucking. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road and shut off. The vehicle resumed normal operation when started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing who replaced the left side cylinder head and intake valve. The manufacturer not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1800. Rg.
Horrible odor in the cab, which caused my wife, my two teenage daughters, and myself to all have at least one form of the following, vomiting, nausea, headache, burning eyes and throat. Apparently this is a known issue to the manufacturer, as there is something called a star case. I can't drive the vehicle at this time, as I have no idea if this odor can cause a permanent health problem, not to mention it is bizarre that a brand new vehicle would have a problem like this.
On or about March 6 2014 when the truck sits over night or after about 5 hours when the motor and trans are cold , I notice a hesitation going from reverse to forward, this is a hesitation that is about 2-5 seconds, it seems that the motor is not getting enough air it seems like it wants to idle down. When this idle down it goes from the hesitation then like a idle air issue. With the hesitation from a low idle to idle that makes it go then I have to give this gas or try to since its a lot of electrical know. I am not sure. I live on a busy road and this is a issue that can affect my safety. I should not have to worry if it will go into drive. At this time this is a issue, I want to know when I put this into drive, it goes like it should this is a brand new truck.

The contact indicated that he and another passenger suffered from dizziness, nausea and vomiting from the odor. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer because of the defect. The contact indicated that employees at the dealership confirmed the defect was present in the vehicle and indicated that the replacement parts were ordered to correct the defect. The contact was not informed what parts would be replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 1000.
There is a faint propane-like smell coming through the air vents when truck is at idle.
There is a nasty propane smell coming from the truck, I have noticed this is an issue with the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500. I have been told that there is an issue with the antifreeze that is being used and is causing a chemical reaction with the rubber hoses. System has to be flushed and new antifreeze added and all rubber hoses replaced.
We were driving our new truck (only 13 days old) and came up behind a car going 25mph in a 50mph zone. We slowly accelerated the truck to pass the vehicle. During this acceleration, we saw large amounts of white smoke coming from both tailpipes. Then a brief single chime started from the instrument panel. Because it was a new truck we didn't know what was happening and there was no safe place to pull over. We continued up the road and the chiming increased in frequency and white smoke began to come into the cab and from under the hood. We came to side road and immediately pulled over. We got out and the white smoke continued to bellow from under hood. After truck was turned off, the smoke slowly subsided. We towed the truck back to the dealer on a flatbed.
