I was driving on an on-ramp to enter the freeway and was accelerating. The accelerator pedal went to the floor and the rpms climbed. The cruise control was off at this time. I tried turning the cruise control on and off, but the vehicle continued to accelerate. I stomped on the accelerator pedal several times and the vehicle's rpms and speed rolled back. The check engine light did not illuminate and I didn't notice if the electronic throttle control light was on or off. The truck drove normally after that. Approximately 1 week later, I was driving on the interstate @ 70mph. The cruise control was off. I pulled into the passing lane and pressed the accelerator pedal, but not all the way to the floor, to accelerate. The engine immediately accelerated and the pedal seemed to go all the way to the floor. I stepped on the accelerator pedal several times, but could not disengage it. I tried turning the cruise control on and off, but that did not disengage the pedal either. I was standing on the brakes at this time, but the vehicle continued acceleration. The check engine light did not illuminate, but the electronic throttle control light illuminated red. This is the first time I have ever seen this light. I put the vehicle into neutral (rpms still high) and stepped on the accelerator pedal several times. The engine started idling down.

Cruise control switch was on but not engaged. I pulled up to back into parking space, and with my foot on the brake pedal, the truck lunged forward into parked cars. The truck stopped, I put my foot back on the brake pedal, looking to make sure I was only on the brake pedal, and the truck lunged forward again into parked car. I took my foot off of brake pedal, put the shifter in reverse, and the truck took off at high speed in reverse, clipped a fire hydrant, and stopped about 100 feet away, backing into an earthen bank. All of this occurred in the parking lot at my place of work.

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that there was a premature failure with the cruise control feature activating or not functioning properly. There was also unintended movement while the vehicle was in gear. The failure occurred when the vehicle was in reverse and the brake pedal was depressed to pull into a parking space. The contact was unable to determine if there was an electrical failure that activated the cruise control, causing the vehicle to lunge and accelerate at a high rate of speed. Force was applied to the brake pedal when the failure happened. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who checked for dtc, but was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. There was no repair recommendation from the independent mechanic. Additionally, a brake light switch was replaced by the independent mechanic. The dealer (whitten brothers of ashland, 11409 washington hwy, ashland, va 23005, (804) 798-6071) was also unable to determine the cause of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v795000 (electrical system) and 06v038000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer issued six tsbs for the electrical system and was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
January 2018 driving with cruise control set to 60mph,going up a small hill truck sped up to 80mph rpm went over 3000. Was able to shut off--tried tset again at 60mph and instantly sped up to 80pmh---shut off. Took truck to dealer (searched for recalls at that time) and they diagnosed it as needing engine control (pcm)changed. Repair completed 2-22-18 at over $1200 (have receipts).
The cruise control accelerated by itself.

The issues have been with the truck's cruise control. Initially it would shut off when the '+' button was pressed 2x rapidly or would not operate at all. It would resume functioning when I would pull over and restart the truck. The issues however has escalated to a serious safety issues. On the morning of 7/28/2014, the cruise control would not shut off or disarm. I could cancel and/or press the brake pedal to slow down, but the system would not disarm or turn off. A visit to the dealer verified the issue and a 2014 model was taken for a test drive and it did not replicate same issue. Having the cruise control unexpectedly disengage or have it not disarm is a serious traffic and safety hazard. The exact same behavior is documented in this youtube video and is not an unknown occurrence to the manufacturer. . Read more...

I was returning home from a short trip on the interstate and I had just made a turn on the street we live on when I heard a ding sound. My wife and I noticed that there was a message on the display that showed, "service electronic throttle control". It stayed on only a second and disappeared. I didn't really notice any effect to the driving capability, but this is the first time that message has appeared and I notice that there are two similar complaints posted here about the same message. I think I'll go to the dealership and at least let them know about it and see what they do. I had been using my cruise control on the way back from my trip which I normally do use and I note that in at least one of the other complaints the person was using theirs too. At the time of the message I wasn't using cruise but like I said, I had been.
I was exiting the hwy at about 80 km/h when out of no where the truck accelerated and I felt the gas pedal disappear under my foot. I was not using cruise control, the weather was normal and roads were dry. The truck accelerated up to 120km/h all on its on very quickly and my reaction was to brake, with both feet on the brake I was having difficulty trying to slow down, luckily there was no traffic in front of me for a few hundred yards. I then started gearing down to try and slow down which worked but the engine was still going full throttle, the engine light came on and there was a chime and the etc warning light came on to the right of the speedometer (a red lightening bolt) this went on for a few minutes and then out of no where just stopped and the gas pedal let up and the truck drove normally after that. Dodge dealer said the only code that came up was for driving with the brake and gas at the same time and said it was probably my driving that caused it and other than that the truck is fine. I use the same foot for the brake and gas and only did that at the time to slow down.

On August 26th I was traveling in my truck at about 58mph with the cruise control on. As I entered a 45mph speed zone I tapped the brake pedal to disengage the cruise. The truck maintained speed so I pressed the brake pedal many times with the truck not slowing down. I then had to hit the brakes quite hard to slow down. While doing this I noticed a message come up on the info screen which read service electronic throttle control. After stopping I checked to see if something like a floormat was pressing on the accelerator pedal, which there was not. This same situation happened again on August 30th. I contacted south lake motors, the local ram dealer to schedule an appointment for sept. 4. I took my truck in and they found a code in the computer, but could not find anything wrong. In the following 2 weeks the same thing happened two more times as I tried to slow down from a speed of between 55 and 60mph, except I did not have the cruise on. They looked it over again on sept 19 and decided to put a new accelerator pedal in it on sept. 20th. The next day it stuck again as I tried to slow for a truck turning in front of me, almost causing me to rear end that vehicle. Sept 27th I took it back in and they still could not find anything wrong. On oct 7 I once again dropped my truck off at the dealer and they kept it for 5 days trying to duplicate the issue. They could not find the problem. On oct 13 while traveling at 45mph I let off the accelerator pedal and the truck maintained speed, I had to slam on the brakes to slow it down to negotiate a corner without wrecking. This has happened two time since then. On oct 21st I took it back to the dealer and they installed a data recorder to record the events. The mechanic and other dealership employees have told me this truck is not safe to drive. I have called Chrysler daily telling them this vehicle is unsafe.
Have had a cracked dashboard for quite some time now, I have filed a complaint before and could not get a resolution from Chrysler/Dodge. My dashboard has cracked to pieces causing a safety hazard. Finally my electrical systems have started to malfunction due to the pieces of my fallen dashboard falling on electrical components, there was a small short/fire that caused my cruise control to stop working and my dash lights also. I feel it has been long enough and something needs to be done before, someone not as lucky as me, gets really hurt from this safety hazard issue that has haunted us Dodge ram owners for a long time. We need to get our dashboard replaced ASAP.

When the cruise control is turned on and set (above 30 mph) it continues to increase in speed until reaching over 100 mph. I took the vehicle to greenbrier Dodge in chesapeake virginia, and they were unable to find anything wrong with the vehicle based on their computers. When driven, they had the same problem, but could not find a problem on their computers. The problem was then brought to Dodge and assigned a case manager. On 23 sept 10, I was informed that this is not a safety concern by my case manager tina, and advised that Dodge could be of no further assistance with this issue.
Had my cruise control set at 70 mph on my Dodge Ram 1500 truck as I was approaching an 18 wheeler I tap my brake to disengage my cruise and it didn't so I tapped it again and same results and there was cars on my left so I had to take the shoulder of the highway I was applying the brakes as hard as I could but I continued to gain speed ( the cruise was stuck and would not disengage) and had to take the shoulder. I continued to gain speed and ran out of shoulder so I had to cut left back to the highway and hit the trailer of the 18 wheeler. It slowed me down and I cut back behind the trailer and started to gain speed. The 2 cars that was to my left had passed so I cut left and turned off the key and began to slide. I slid about 100 feet and into the median. Also the air bags never deployed. My truck was totaled but fortunately there was no injuries other than a few bruises to me and my 2 passengers. There also was no injuries to the driver of the 18 wheeler.
The contact owns a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving 50 mph, the contact activated the cruise control. The speed increased to 55 mph without him pre-setting the speed. When the contact attempted to disengage the cruise control, the engine began to rev. He applied pressure to the brake pedal, but the cruise control would not disengage. The contact had to completely turn off the vehicle in order for it to disengage. He is in the process of having the vehicle diagnosed at the dealer. The failure and current mileages were 70,900. My 2004 Dodge ram would intermittently drop the cruise control when I hit the drivers side down button. I took it to the dealer several times and was told it wasn't throwing a code and they didn't know what was causing the issue. Several months ago, after parking my vehicle in the garage, I woke up to discover the drivers door had caught fire. It sure looked to me that it started on the circuit board inside the door. The vehicle was totaled.
: the contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the driveway; the vehicle was running for about 30 seconds when the contact heard a pop and noticed there was a fire under the hood. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire. As a result, the vehicle was totaled. The fire marshall determined this was a product liability case. There were no problems with the vehicle prior to the incident. The contact used the cruise control twice a year.
: the contact stated the vehicle's cruise control would not maintain speeds and would fluctuate up or down by 6 mph. The service dealer stated this was a normal issue with these vehicles and they could not fix the issue.
The cruise control shuts off intermittently when the power windows are activated. The vehicle was brought to Dodge of burnsville, where the problem was not duplicated by the mechanic. I can now induce this problem consistantly by activating the power windows.
Cruise control will shut off if I use 2 or more of the power windows at the same time. Cc will also shut completely off when you hit the brakes, not just disengage. Took to local dealer and they said there isn't a fix for the problem but they also stated Dodge is aware of the problem. This happened once with the window switch problem while I was passing a slow vehicle with my cruise on. I rolled up 2 windows and the cruise shut off during the pass.
While driving vehicle stalled. Vehicle caught on fire. The fire department was called to extinguish the fire. Vehicle was towed and totaled by the insurance company. . . . Consumer was concerned that there might be a problem that was nit peculiar to this vehicle but that could be repeated in other daimler Chrysler vehicles. If there had been a child or an elderly person as a passenger in the vehicle consumer would not be able to get them out before the flames engulfed the vehicle.

While driving 65 mph cruise control stayed engaged when the brakes were depressed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. . . . . . Cruise control would not disengage. Pulles off the road, put into neutral and shut off engine.
I own a 1997 Dodge 1500 ram p. U. I started my truck up towarm up. I then backed out of the drive. When I put truck in drive, it stalled. I started it back up and put it in drive again. The engine was going full throttle and it took off like a rocket. I cut the enging to look for a problem. Everything appeared ok so I started it up again and put it in gear. The engine was running so fast that even though I held the brake peddal to the floor the engine pulled me right thru a stop sign. I played with the gas peddal and it began to run normal. I then took it to my service station and had them look at it. They advisd me that it was a dealer problem and they could do nothing. I then proceeded towards to the freeway when it suddenld accelerated again. I then brought the truck home and am scared to drive it. I called Chrysler corp. To see what the problem may be and they said they have never had any complaints about this and yet I have found several same or simular problems listed on your site. I also have had a problem with the cruise control. While driving on the freeway it suddenly stopped functioning, and hasen't worked since. Again Chrysler claime to not be aware of any problems. The exact same thing with the cruise control happened on my 1998 Plymouth van and it was taken care of under recall. It appears that either you are not relaying all these complaints to Chrysler corp. , or they are living in a vacuum.
Sunday morning, I started my truck. The truck warmed up for nearly 30 minutes prior to my trek home. I then drove the truck for nearly 90 minutes prior to reaching interstate 95 in houlton. When I started driving, the temp was 16. When I entered the interstate, I set my cruise control to 85. After traveling for nearly 80 minutes, my truck rapidly accelerated without warning. I tapped my brakes in an attempt to disengage the cruise control. This did not work. I then pushed the cruise control buttons on my steering wheel, in an attempt to turn off the cruise. This did not work either. I pushed on the accelerator thinking that it was stuck. This made no difference. The truck was accelerating without warning or reason. My truck accelerated to 95 mph, and was continuing to climb. I had to do the following in order to get my truck stopped. I had to force the brakes on, which was the not very productive. I was able to slow the truck to 65 mph before placing the truck into neutral. After placing the truck into neutral, the engine raced out of control. The tachometer was maxed out. The engine stalled, as I rolled to a stop. After collecting my self and attempting to calm my wife down, I started the truck up. The accelerator was still stuck and the tachometer was past 7000 before I could get the truck shut off. I started the truck three more times and the above still occurred. I then slowly pushed the accelerator to the floor a couple of times with the truck, off. I then started the truck and pushed the accelerator to the floor. The truck then came out of what ever was going on. Outside temp 0. This really concerns me. This was a very scary event, and thankfully we were on the interstate in remote northern maine. If this occurred in or around rural maine it would have and could have been fatal. William smith 18 fern way rockport, maine hrswks412@adelphia. Net.
Cruise-control, my cruise-control light comes on and I go to set my speed that I want and it doesn't work. I continue going and then the cruise will take over on it's own and start working and when I stop, it stops. I take off and then it will kick in and lock on and work and other times, when I want it to, it won't work at all. Would this have anything to do with the springs and set up with the air bag recall on the 1997 Dodge ram pick-ups, which I never received. I did get the recall for the hood latch problem and had that fixed immediately. I own a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck and the mileage just turned 50,000, plus I have an extended warranty on it also.

The cruise control was set while I was driving on the indiana toll-road, it had been snowing and was somewhat slick. All of a sudden the cruise control kicked the truck into passing gear and increased acceleration. This happened with very little head wind and no incline. When this happened, the trucks rear tires broke loose and I nearly lost control of the vehicle. The Dodge rep. Said " it is suppose to do that. ".

When driving with cruise control if the brakes are applied and driver returns to cruise control by accelerating the gas pedal goes to the floor. The engines and rpm's race very high, the driver has to stomp on the gas pedal to release pedal. Please provide any further information.
