5 Seats problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 04/09/2017

2005 Dodge Ram 1500 truck 4x2 quad, was in motion at posted highway speed, with minimal wind present. As an eyewitness & owner of the vehicle, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, rolling the truck 4 -5 times before landing on its top (upside down). Damage throughout was severe and extensive. No airbags deployed and both occupants were wearing their safety belts. Front passenger head rest ripped away from seat and was found about 100 yards away from accident scene, stuck in a bush. Right rear tire (passenger side), snapped off and broke away from the rear axel. Tire was found more than 100 yards away from the totaled vehicle & tire was not blown out. Concerns about 2 safety recalls on this vehicle is the reason for submitting complaint: recall involving a problem/defect with the air bag deployment, and recall concerning a rear axel pion nut coming loose while in motion & causing rear wheel to completely break away from vehicle. Defect could suddenly cause driver to lose complete control, causing vehicle to crash and/or violently rollover. This vehicle was serviced for both recalls, twice. However, in this rollover crash that occurred, the rear wheel with brake system still attached, completely snapped off the rear axel. Also, the insurance company did an estimate to repair vehicle, but did not include or mention a repair charge for the right rear wheel or the rear axel. The tail gate was also ripped off of the truck and was found about 75 yards away from the totaled vehicle. No fatalities resulted from this horrific crash, but my son who was the passenger, did suffer serious and permanent injuries, which include a head injury (tbi), multiple fractures to his ctl-spine, injured right foot, leg and hip, and abrasions and deep scrapes throughout his body. The driver, my sons girlfriend, suffered scrapes and bruising, but no serious injury.

10 Seats problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

Driver side seat tore and has a big hole. The truck is a 2009 laramie with 69,000 miles currently. The seat tore around 37,000. Truck was sold with "leather package" but the seat is vinyl. I am a woman, weighing 130 lbs. And feel this product should have held up much better, especially since I paid extra for top of the line. Chrysler says they cannot do anything about it.

12 Seats problem of the 2011 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 06/24/2011

We bought a 2011 Dodge ram express truck which is a single cab truck. Behind the seat is the place for the anchor hook but there are no hooks in the crease of the seat. The dealership says if I buckle up the seatbelt around the car seat it engages the airbag. This means that my son cannot ride in this vehicle. This just makes no sense to me. I thought all vehicles had to have the latch hook in the seet too.

The NHTSA campaign number could not be retrieved. The contact stated that the dealer used an incompatible material to replace the seat covers , which caused them to show signs of wear. The contact was concerned that the heated seats could burn. The contact also stated that the new seat covers did not fit properly and were replaced seven times to get the right size. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure was not remedied. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

15 Seats problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/05/2010

The drivers seat foam is falling apart due contact with sharp edges in the support basket and frame welds. The seat motor has also stopped working. I contacted Dodge customer service (care #[xxx])and was referred to the dealership to have the vehicle inspected. I had the vehicle inspected and Dodge refused to make repairs. The vehicle only has 33,000 miles and the seat foam has to be replaced, along with the cloth fabric, that has a hole due to the rubbing of the fabric in the metal frame. I had to cover the seat with a towel to protect my pants, after I ripped three pair of pants on the sharp edges. I looked at a number of Dodge owner websites and many owners are complaining about the same problem. One owner even posted detailed photos of how he repaired the sharp parts and replaced the seat foam after Dodge refused to repair his truck. It is a clear defect and the truck should be recalled due to the risk of injury by the sharp parts. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

17 Seats problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 07/02/2009

The driver's seat track in my 2005 Dodge ram failed. This time my truck had just over 30,000 miles on it and the seat track failed again. It previously failed at about 12,000 miles. Since all of the Dodge dealers that were close to me were closed I had to drive my unsafe vehicle a little over an hour away to get it looked at. Once again the seat was lunging forward and back with acceleration and deceleration. The dealer determined that the adjustment screw on the seat track had fatigued, stretched and failed. Though my truck is in immaculate condition, incredibly low miles and the fact that the dealer admitted that the part was faulty I was still informed that the bill would be around $680 to make my truck safe once again. After having the new seat track installed I noticed nearly 1/4" of free-play in the new seat assembly. I notified the dealer and he informed me that I was just being stupid. He told me that all of these seats have a good amount of play and that I should just make sure to bring it in when it fails again. He was sure that it would fail again but was unsympathetic to my desire for safety for me and my family. I contacted Dodge directly about the issue and they basically blew me off. I now have a few thousand more miles on my new seat track and the seat is beginning to really loosen up again. I am very concerned that my seat could be thrown through my windshield with me still seat-belted into it. I have similar seats in other vehicles of other makes and they have never given me any problems in over 200,000 miles. I am very concerned for my families safety and am feeling very impotent. I asked a manager at Dodge if they thought that my being paralyzed was acceptable and I was informed that there has to be some type of injury before they will consider doing anything. I do not think that this is acceptable. I would feel terrible selling the truck to someone else who could be injured in it. I don't know what else to do. Please help me.

18 Seats problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/03/2009

The heated and ventilated option seats in the 2009 Dodge ram fail prematurely. I have a 2009 Dodge ram crew cab larmie with 1400 miles. Seat cover replaced at 800 miles by Dodge. Seat cover replacing again at 1400 miles. I also have a 2009 Dodge ram quad cab, same heated ventilated seats. It needs to be replaced now with 415 miles total miles on the truck. Chrysler has a real problem with the heated ventilated leather trimmed seat covers and they will not acknowledge my complaint.

22 Seats problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/03/2007

I have been noticing since I got my truck in March that the front driver side seat makes a popping noise when going around corners. It also feels like it is coming up off the ground or out of the track. I checked it and it is securely fastened to the ground. I took it into freemont Dodge yesterday to get some recall work done, and they informed me that the brackets and the pinions in the track of the seat are defective. They tried to get the parts but they are on backorder. How long do they have to fix this problem and how dangerous is it. The dealership says it is ok but my wife drives the truck and I want to make sure that she will be safe.

23 Seats problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 10/18/2006

The driver's seat track failed in my 2005 Dodge ram. My truck had just over 12,000 miles and was still in new condition and has never been abused. The I have the upgraded fully adjustable seat in my new truck. Once the seat track failed the seat had around six inches of free-play forward and back. I would apply the brakes and the seat would lunge forward toward the dash. As I would accelerate the seat would lunge backward. I refused to drive the vehicle until it was repaired as I didn't feel safe driving it. The dealer replaced the seat track for me since it was under warranty. The technicians working on my truck said that they were concerned for my safety with this seat track. They suggested that I would surely break at least my legs in an accident. I would think that this type of thing would void any crash test data. My new seat still had some play but the dealer assured me that it would be fine. I am still worried.
