3 Xxxxx problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 10/28/2016

Thank fully nothing has happened as of yet. However all four tpms valve stem retaining nuts that were used on my model are cracked and getting worse over time. I saw that some people have had rapid decompression of their tire pressure due to cracked retaining nuts. These were reports on the complaints section here. I was inflating one of my tires and the whole vavle stem cracked off and I had to replace one of them already. I brought it up with my mechanic and he said "that's just what aluminum valve stems do" im afraid that eventually they will fail at high speed and just want to put a complaint in. A part like this should not just be expected to "do" something like that when it is a known issue.

4 Xxxxx problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 09/26/2016

Two tire valve stems have failed causing sudden loss of tire inflation. First failure, June 5, 2016 driver side rear tire occurred on interstate highway (70mph). Tire was damaged beyond repair before vehicle stopped. Second failure, sept 26, 2016 passenger side rear tire occurred on state highway (55mph). Tire has not been reviewed for internal damage. Front driver side tire shows crack in valve stem retaining nut. Crack runs straight from tire to top of retaining nut. Crack appearance looks as though the retaining nut is a stamped part with a seam. Photos: 1) sept 26 failure showing valve stem parts completely missing. 2) unfailed, but cracked retaining nut (dark line is crack) taking truck to tire shop for replacement of all valve stems. Will ask for all existing parts to be returned. Note first failure required changing tire within 4 feet of heavy vehicle traffic moving at 70 mph speed limit. Second failure required changing tire on dark roadway during rain storm. Unlike typical tire punctures with slow pressure loss, I had no ability to re-inflate and move to safer location for tire changing.

6 Xxxxx problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 06/23/2015

My sister was in a fatal car accident June 23rd 2015. About a week and a half after her death we received a recall for the trucks rear axle pinion nut. Then a week after that we received another recall in the mail regarding the driver airbag inflator. During the incident her trucks right rear tire was snapped at the axle leaving us to believe that the pinion nut was loose and caused this rear axle to seize and break. In the crash all of the airbags failed to deploy. The pinion nut recall was issued in February of 2015 and we are questioning why it took Chrysler 5 months to provide us with this information.

7 Xxxxx problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/27/2015

Valve stem nut split and fell off tires. Tire partially deflated. Went to put air in tire, nut fell off. Went to add air to additional tire, threads on valve stem broke off. First valve stem failed approximately 1 year ago while driving. Replaced all stems. Serious safety concern. Poor quality.

8 Xxxxx problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/03/2015

I recently had the drivers side front hub fail on my truck. Having heard a grinding noise, I took the truck home and lifted the front to inspect it. After inspecting the wheels and brakes, I removed both and found that the bearings had failed on the drivers side. These hubs are sealed units that have to be replaced. I replaced both sides to be safe. My truck has anti-lock brakes in the front also so these units cost me almost $500. 00 with new pads. Chrysler told me that they had not fount any design problems with the hubs but as this is a critical unit that does not get serviced, it should not fail so soon. Had I driven much further the unit could have broken completely causing the entire wheel to fall off. This could have caused a serious if not fatal accident.

9 Xxxxx problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 06/26/2014

The contact owns a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 15v312000 (air bags) and 14v770000 (air bags); however, the part needed to do the repair was not made available. In addition, while driving approximately 60 mph, the front driver side wheel failed without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, who diagnosed that the wheel assembly fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

10 Xxxxx problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 03/12/2014

My concern is valve stem failure. The valve stems on my truck have air pressure sensors on them and are bolted in the valve stem hole in the rim. The nut that holds the valve stem in place failed on the highway and caused a instant deflation of the tire in heavy traffic. This is not the first time this has happened. I have had problems with the valve stem nut cracking before. The first time I took it to the local Dodge dealer due to a constant tire leak they told me it was a bad valve stem. The valve stem cost $50 and $80 to install. The second time was on a scheduled tire rotation and the tech noticed the nut had corrosion and was cracked. He replaced it with a new nut. The third time was the blow out I described first, which also ruined the tire. On inspection of the forth tire the nut is also cracked.

11 Xxxxx problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the valve core on the passenger's front and rear tires failed. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the failure was confirmed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.

12 Xxxxx problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

The tpms valve core has corroded and cracked causing a slow loss in tire pressure. This condition has the potential to cause rapid tire deflation and creates the substantial risk of injury should the tire air valve fail. Chrysler is well aware of the situation and has already implemented a design change as they know the air valves are defective. The replacement is $75 out of pocket per tire at my local shop. The service manager and several online forums are plagued with complaints regarding this condition which affects a large portion of vehicles produced by Chrysler. A large oil and gas company (eqt) has ordered all employees operating affected vehicles to have the air valves changed regardless of condition. I, in conjunction with others whom I personally know who have been affected by this defect feel that the item should be recalled as it posses the risk of serious potential injury should the air valve fail at highway speeds.

13 Xxxxx problem of the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/31/2013

M34 recall - we brought the car to dealer April 2013 and they could not fix the recall yet (we have this documented - "as per tech not in effect yet"). On 8/31 we were on northern state parkway (eastbound) around 8pm when the car failed - very loud noise, loss of vehicle control, hit a curb and barely exited the parkway at route 110 exit. Vehicle could not move and realized the drive shaft came off and a passing car hit the drive shaft, several cars had to swerve around it, the car fluid leaking, etc. We had to call aaa and arrange a tow truck ($181. 95 paid up front), arrange transportation for our 12 year old daughter who was in the car at the time of the incident and my wife and I were transported by the tow truck. This ordeal took 2 hours. We arranged for dealer to tow the car on 9/4 - smith haven Chrysler Jeep Dodge, saint james, NY. The dealer has informed us that can repair the damage caused by the rear locking up and the drive shaft coming lose, but they do not have the part to fix the m34 recall. I opened case #23907979 with Chrysler 9/5. I am getting conflicting information since Chrysler representative informs me that the parts are available cbakm343aa, cbakm344aa, cbakm345aa, cbakm346aa but will "take a while" to get and that the dealer can only order/recieve one of the four parts at a time. This does not make sense to me. However, the smith haven dealer and NHTSA records (reference # 565888) indicate the parts to fix m34 are not available. Therefore, I am getting conflicting information regarding the ability to address the recall while the dealer is in the process of repairing the damages and returning the vehicle with the recall issue unaddressed and my family and I are facing a repeat of a potentially dangerous failure at any time in the future.
