Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problems of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Four problems related to front suspension wheel bearing have been reported for the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2014

In July 2014, travelling along a 2 lane highway, we hit a bump in the road and the truck started to violently shake to the point where we had to come to a complete stop on the road. Scared the entire family as we got out to see if we had a tire failure. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Continued on the vacation and had it occur 3-5 more times while in the truck. While on vacation, had the steering damper(stabilizer) and rotated the tires but that did not fix the problem. Upon return home, took it to a non-Chrysler service center as the local Dodge dealer was 3 weeks out on getting the truck in. They replaced both upper and lower tie rods joints, wheel bearings and aligned the vehicle. $2000 approximate cost plus the steering stabilizer and no fix. Took the truck on another extended trip on 4/3 and had it occur again. When I called Chrysler dealer today (4/6), the service advisor was unaware of any problems with this truck and advised me to bring it in which I will do next week. It still has the passenger air bag recall out on it. All previous recalls have been inspected by Chrysler service centers. This is a very dangerous situation and I fear that allowing the truck on the highway dangers not only me and my family but other motorists traveling near us.

3 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2008

Front wheel bearing failure, 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 2wd slt quad cab. 96,000 miles. During front pad inspection, noted how difficult it was to turn left front wheel hub. Had heard something while driving previous day that sounded like a bearing going out. Then inspected right side, it was worse, free spin with grinding noise like it had no grease. After some research and the shock of how expensive the replacement parts are, I discovered that there was a recall for later years (2007) to replace these hubs for lack of grease. For these bearings to fail at this mileage is ridiculous on a part that can't be serviced. I am in the process of replacing both hubs for obvious safety reasons. I will be calling Dodge on Monday to see if they would care to help me.

4 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem
