1 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2022

When driving over some overpasses on highways the "bump" causes the whole front end to shake and makes steering very hard to maintain. I have heard this called "the Dodge death wobble" and has been reported by many other Dodge ram owners. I have had all of the ball joints and tie rod replaced. This is a highly disturbing occurrence when traveling at a speed of 65-70 mpr on a highway. This has happened to me more than once and is a very scary feeling, thinking my front tires are coming off. Is there a recall to correct this?.

2 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2022

Dodge death wobble. This death wobble started prior to my 100000mile warranty expired, but by the time I drove the truck home, it was over the milage. After a lot of bs and a fee, Dodge "fixed" my problem. ( for a while) they have refused to re-repair their bad design since. . I've spent many hours and money temporarily repairing their front end design. If I hit a bump in the road while exceeding 55 mph the truck violently shakes and I cannot control the direction. I went off the freeway in salt lake this last weekend after putting new tie rods (again) on the front end. You know what this is ! Dodge has never remedied this situation. !.

3 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2019

This the the second attempt by me to report this problem. It is knwn as the Dodge death wobble and this is a dangerous problem not only for the driver of the vehicle as well as anyone else on the highway when this occurs. . Read more...

4 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2019

At highway speeds of 70mph after hitting the slightest of bumps or bridge joints the front end of the truck would violently shake so bad that I couldn't control it and sent the truck sideways almost flipping it and hitting a tractor trailer but thank god I didnt. My wife and kids were driving it and at 60 hit a bump and she also almost wrecked it with our kids in the truck! its been in the shop and at this point im paying someone else to own it. Im a Ford guy and stepped out to try something different and am now wasting my hard earned money and im pissed. I want my f250 back.

5 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2019

Death wobble at highway speed.

6 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

I was driving it home from the dealership, on a back road, going about 40 mph. I hit a bump, the whole front end started bouncing uncontrollably. Like it was hit with a jack hammer! I ended up off the road! as I got out and was looking to see what happened, a guy stopped behind me. He got out, and said he has the same truck with the same problem. He's never seen it happen before, only experienced it first hand. He said it looked like the wheels were going different directions! I didn't see anything wrong tho. The lug nuts and everything were tight. It even passed inspection this morning! I looked online and it said to start online here to document the complaints.

7 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2016

The leaf sprimg assembly on the passenger side in the rear broke away from the frame. Being that I am retired and this is my personal vehicle I dont put to many heavy loads on it. I do have a travel trailer and a boat . I have never pulled them together nor do I use them all the time from occassion I go camping. I do fish a morethan I camp but the wait of either is relitively the same. I had my family with me when the leaf spring broke. I have 5 trucks, I have done the same things with all of them and never had a leaf spring brak from the vehicle. As I took it to the dealer he told me he has only seen this once in his 20 years of working on trucks. I do belive that this is an area of concern. .

8 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2016

My truck has death wobble. When I drive on the highway under normal driving conditions and hit even the slightest bump just right, my front end will shake violently and will not stop shaking until I slow down to under 30 mph. It has been happening for 2 years now and there isn't a sure fire fix for this problem. Several mechanics have looked at my truck and they all have a different idea of how to fix it.

9 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2015

I was driving down I-15 at approximately 70mph and hit a small bump in the road. The front end started bouncing uncontrollably. Had to completely stop in traffic, which almost resulted in a big accident. This is not the first time this has happened. I was in traffic on Monday this week as well and the same thing happened twice at slower speeds and on both of these occasions was almost hit by an 18 wheeler. I am a female and trying to hold on to the steering wheel while it jerked violently back and forth was almost not doable. When is Dodge going to be held responsible for making a safe truck for us to drive? my mechanic told me that just about all of these trucks have this same issue and they won't fix it unless it cracks. This is not safe for drivers anywhere. Is it going to take a serious accident or death to get something done about this problem?.

10 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that while traveling at 55 mph, the front end of the vehicle began to shake uncontrollably without warning. The failure occurred once. 11 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2015

If I hit a bump when traveling straight at highway speeds, it causes an extreme wobble that only improves by slowing down significantly. I'm afraid that it will eventually cause an accident. It feels like you could easily loose control. I have taken it to my mechanic and the dealership and they can't find anything wrong.

12 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2015

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. While the vehicle was being serviced by the dealer, the technician informed the contact that the vehicle's upper, lower, and u joints were fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,000.

13 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

Drivng home I hit a pot hole at 65 miles an hour when the trucks front end started shaking violently. I had to slow down to about 35 miles an hour to get control. Its been a regular occurence ever since. I have taken it to the dealership and they say nothing is wrong. I have researched and spent over $1000. 00 on parts. Apparently it is a common problem with Dodge known as the "death wobble" that Dodge fails to acknowledge or take responsibility for.

14 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2015

Otherwise known as the "Dodge death wobble". The approximate incident date is the last time it occurred because I can't remember when the first time was. I attempted to have this issue resolved/ repaired by Chrysler multiple times just to get the runaround every time. This last time 02/16/2015, they had me driving 30 minutes to their shop, in treacherous driving conditions caused by 5 inches of sleet and snow received the night before. Then they ended up wasting over 3 hours of my time/day by not doing any work at all to my truck the whole time it sat in their shop and tried to make me pay in excess of $575 for any work they was going to do. I had already rebuilt the entire front end in mid 2013 and in 2014 I dumped $10000 into rebuilding the engine because it blew 4 of the 6 compression rings for some reason, I can't afford to rebuild the whole front end. . . . . . . Again. This is a seriously dangerous issue and has had hundreds of complaints about it. There is even a class action lawsuit over it. Chrysler knows there is a problem and has the parts to fix it, so why won't they just do it? doesn't Chrysler care about the safety of their customers?.

15 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 06v288000 (suspension) in July of 2014. The dealer and manufacturer stated that the parts were unavailable to repair the vehicle. The contact had not experienced a failure.

16 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2014

Ran over a pothole at 65 mph and the front end violently shook. Had to apply the brakes and slow down to 50 mph in order to gain control. Took it into national tire and battery and $1700 later, I still have the problem. Semi truck behind me almost ran over me. Violently shakes. Very scary.

17 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2013

I was on my way to see my doctor in waltham ,MA. And I travel the MA. Turnpike at 67mph, and every bridge span or bump in the road surface the truck started to shake uncontrollably until I went to the brake down lane and brought the truck to a dead stop. In the 166 miles from my home to the doctor office and back home again I had to stop this truck 15 times. When I brought it to the dealership I had to pay $1,699. 31for the damage that was cause by a defective part that no one want to replace under what should be a recall. Chrysler says that because of the year and mileage of the vehicle that it was my problem even though they have redesigned the part that cause this problem in the first place. And even after I pay the first repair bill the truck still had the same problem until the mechanic tighten the bolts on the part. The truck is still handling the same as before it was fix. And because I have had major surgery I will have to travel that road many times before I,m healed. Because I'm on workman comp. I have limited funds to live on and I really worry when I drive that truck as I can't afford another vehicle and Chrysler want to do nothing about it until someone is hurt or dead.

18 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2013

Vehicle started death wobble, I replaced the entire front end. Dodge recalled parts, now are denying repayment for parts I paid for.

19 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2013

My 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 exhibits the classic defective steering linkage issues common to Dodge rams of this year and results in the "death wobble" when driving over a bump at highway speeds. It becomes nearly uncontrollable until I slow to below 30 mph. The dealership always claims that they either "cannot duplicate" the issue, or that they couldn't fix it if they could duplicate it anyway. I bought the Dodge ram used in 2013 and have been having this issue ever since. I did not know that this was a common Dodge ram problem, that has been ignored by Chrysler, or I would not have purchased the truck.

20 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2012

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that there was a rattling noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 182,000.

21 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

While driving at 55mph and above, hit bump on highway and the front end started to shake violently. The truck almost went into the other lane.

22 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2012

While driving on the highway at speeds of about 55 mph and hitting any small rut or change in the road the vehicle begins to shake like crazy . I have had it at the dealer for the recall and they said it was ok . I have had it at the local truck shop and they can't figure it out . Everything looks to be tight . Dodge needs to get these trucks recalled before someone dies . Dodge knows there is a problem why in the world won they fix this . I asked the local dealer again about the death wobble and they said that they were not aware of any death wobble . Are you kidding all you have to do is google death wobble and you will see all you need to know . If I would have known about this problem store I bought this truck I would have not bought it . I am now thinking of trading it in , and let it kill someone else .

23 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2012

Dodge death wobble this really should be under recall before someone gets hurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

24 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

Truck will go into "death wobble at or around 60 miles an hour, and wont stop until it reaches 30 to 35 mph. This is a recipe for disaster!!!! I urge anyone reading this to file formal complaints with any one who will listen!! im contacting my state rep. On this matter. Just like the corvair, unsafe at any speed.

25 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2011

I was driving down the highway at 70 mph when my truck went into what consumers are calling "the death wobble. " the truck started shaking uncontrollably, making it hard to drive. It has continued to do it, and mechanics are having a difficult time finding out what is wrong. My wife and son were in the truck with me when it happened the first time, and I'm afraid for them to ride in the truck now because of it. I shouldn't have to fear driving my main source of transportation. . . Especially when it's not a bad vehicle. I'm noticing numerous complaints regarding this issue.

26 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2011

I was driving the truck along hwy 5 in northern California in the fast lane when, going over a bridge, the front end started to violently shake. The steering wheel jerked out of my hand, I slowed down and had to pull over in front of another vehicle. Truck continued to shimmy until I came to a stop. I got out and thought maybe I had blown a tire - anything - while stranded on the side of this major hwy with loaded semis lying by. I could not see anything wrong with the truck. Got back in, it happened again some 50 miles later. I had the suspension checked and a part replaced. It happened again this spring 2014. I was told by the dealer that it was my tires. The tires were nearly new the first times this happened. I replaced the tires and am now told I have to replace other suspension parts that are damaged/worn at only 80k miles. I have had trucks, cars, etc, for decades that never had suspension issues like this even when they had over 130,000 miles. It angers me that everyone has problems with these diesel trucks and the dealers get away with poor suspensions. A week ago, I was on the freeway and saw this happen to a truck in front of me. I watched as the person attempted to slow down while trying to gain control of the truck and had to try to get across 3 lanes of heavy traffic to the side of the road. How many people have been killed by this? injured? I felt badly for them as I know exactly how that felt as they struggled to slow down and get over with semi trucks, cars, etc, fly by them.

27 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2011

While going 55 to 60 mph hit a small bump with right front tire causes violent shanking of front end, there is no control of the truck, all you can do is stomp the brakes. You must bring the truck down to almost a complete stop to stop the shanking. All front end componets have been checked by a certified mechanic. Online research has revealed the Dodge death wooble to be the problem. Dodge/mopar is very aware of the problem but offer no help with the problem. Please help with this issue before someone gets killed.

28 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving over bumpy road surfaces, the front tires would shake excessively. In order to regain control of the vehicle, the contact would have to come to a complete stop. The dealer did not offer any assistance and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 240,000 and the current mileage was 250,000. The VIN was unavailable.

29 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2011

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 5. 7 at highway speed of 60 to 65 mph the truck goes into a "death woble" from any bump in the road it is almost imposible to control my truck is all stock and only has 67,000 miles on it why does Dodge not recall and fix this problem before it hurts or kills some one?.

30 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

When going over a bump in the road at approximately 50 mph, uncontrolled suspension oscillation, or "death wobble," occurs. Once it begins, nearly all steering control is lost. The only thing that can be done at the time is to rapidly decelerate to around 30 mph. This is very dangerous for drivers of these vehicles and anyone near by. I have spent thousands of dollars replacing factory parts with high end aftermarket upgrades and it always comes back.

31 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2009

When I was driving back from a trip I hit a rough patch in the highway and the truck immediately started violently shaking from side to side as though it were bouncing from one front tire to the other in the front end. As I slowed down to pull over the shaking eventually stopped. We checked the car and there seemed to be nothing wrong, but the truck seemed to do the shaking to smaller and smaller bumps on the road and the passenger side tire started to show a marked amount more wear than the others. We replaced the shocks, the outer tire rod, stabalizer shocks, tires and the shaking went away for about a year before it came back. This is very dangerous as the car is very hard to control when it happens and you have to break immediately. When I was called in for a recall, for a seperate issue, by Dodge I tried to talk to the men in the service department about it and they pretended to no nothing about the "death wobble" that I have read about all over the internet and when discussing it with a friend found out he had the same experience with it. It is definately a defect or design flaw in these Dodge trucks, and while I was hoping that Dodge would step up and do a recall, the very least I would have hoped for was an explanation of what I can do to fix it from the dealer rather than a denial of there being a problem at all. I cannot afford to replace this truck and cannot afford to replace the complete front end suspension every year. Someone needs to make Dodge step up and investigate this problem so that people like myself can fix the problem and know that we will have a safe truck to haul with.

32 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2008

Driving on interstate hit a bump the front end started wobbling bad , had to hit brakes to slow down for it to stop wobbling. Went to three shops replace the stabilizer shock no help, replace the front shocks help for a while and wobbles again , I ,am afraid to drive it.

33 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2007

Vehicle has an uncontrollable shimmy or wobble sometimes at speeds above 40 mph. It seems that there is no rhyme or reason as to when it might occur but is usually precipitated by only minor highway bumps or dips. It will not come back under control until the vehicle slows down considerably. I have had times when I have had to pull over to the side of the road.

34 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2007

When driving over 60 miles an hour and the truck hits a bump it shakes violently. I have had to stop on the freeway to get it to stop. Have had it in three times for aligment and to have the front end checked. Seems alot of people have the same problem with there Dodge trucks.

35 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2006

I own a Dodge ram 2400 and it definitely has the death wobble. When I heard about this problem on the radio and heard them call it the death wobble, I was completely aware of what they were talking about. This is a very good way to describe what happens while you are driving. I have had this problem since 2006. I reported the problem to my local dealer-greenway Dodge in orlando FL. Greenway attempted to fix the problem on 11/24/06 and 12/26/06. If they cannot mimic the problem, they say it does not exist. I have the truck shaking violently on video. After greenway supposedly fixed the problem, we went on a family vacation. Within the first hour of the trip, the truck was shaking violently and my husband had to do whatever he could to control the vehicle. I took the camera out and recorded what was going on. Greenway did not even want to see the video. I told them they returned the truck to us without fixing it and that it was a deathtrap for our family and others on the road. I have made complaints to Dodge customer assistance center and received no help. I contacted the news back in 2007 and received no help. . Read more...
