4 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2012 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 02/25/2013

When driving the truck I will occasionally smell a very strong diesel exhaust odor from the a/c vents in the cabin of the truck, only when fresh air is selected (not recirculate). I have noticed this smell only occurs when coming to a stop, and usually corresponds when the truck is in a regeneration process. The only indicator I have for regeneration is severely decreased fuel mileage the very strong untreated exhaust smell being emitted into the cabin of the truck. After 5 visits to the dealership for attempted warranty repair, the truck still was not repaired and the condition continued. I contacted Chrysler's customer care and to seek resolution and was assigned a case number. In the meanwhile, I was instructed by the dealership to keep the ventilation system in recirculation mode to avoid breathing in the exhaust fumes. Subsequently, after several different conversations with Chrysler customer care staff, I was informed this is a "characteristic" of the vehicle and that I reserved my legal rights to pursue action. Chrysler knows this is a problem, and would rather seek protection from legal settlement or some other means to avoid addressing the problem. I don't think the owners of these vehicles (including myself) should be exposed to untreated exhaust in the cabin of the truck, period. This is a carbon monoxide safety hazard that needs to be reviewed and addressed. Upon research I discoved similar compliants were made to the NHTSA for model years 2010 and 2011. Additional research shows other Ram 2500/3500 owners with the 6. 7 cummins turbo diesel have the same issue. I have documentation of all the dealership visits, all the times/dates and names of the Chrysler employees I spoke with, along with my original complaint sent to Chrysler. Furthermore, I have the research documentation available from other NHTSA compliants.

5 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2012 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 09/07/2012

When driving at slow speeds ( 0 - 45 mph ) or stopped deisel exhaust enters the cab through the air vents due to a leak under the hood. I have been told that this is normal by the dealer and the manufacture's rep. The truck has spent a total of 35 days in the shop so far, with no resolution. I have tried to lemon law the truck but since the dealer refuses to change any parts, I cannot.

8 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2011 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/27/2011

First incident, while driving, electronic throttle control light warning light went on and the engine died. Could not restart until vehicle was stopped, put in park and the key was cycled from on to off and back. Dealer diagnosed the failure on 11/28/10 based on the presence of diagnostic code p2121, "accelerator pedal position sensor performance. ". Part was ordered (it was on backorder), repair was scheduled for 12/12/11 and vehicle was returned to me. On 12/5/11 the failure repeated itself, on 12/12/11 the part was replaced. On 1/5/12 same failure happened again, although this time I was towing an 8000 pound car trailer. Was able to stop and pull to the side of the road, narrowly avoiding an accident. This seems to be an incredibly dangerous design flaw as a stall causes loss of both power steering and brakes, not to mention loss of the exhaust brake.

When this diesel truck cleans it"s particulite filter I get a strong fuel smell oder in the cab when stopped at a stop light or stop sign. This cleaning of the d. P. R. Filter happens every 100 or so miles driven and last for about 20 miles. When the oder occurs my eyes burn, and I cough alot. So far the Dodge dealers are unable to fix my problem. 1. ) after opening the hood the rubber strip running across the top edge of the firewall (where back of hood meets) may become dislodged and fall onto the turbocharger housing. 2. ) this occurs almost every time hood is opened. The last time I had to open the hood it was dark and I did not notice that it had become detached again when I closed the hood. 3. ) since the rubber had caught on fire I removed it and allowed it to burn itself out on my driveway. The last time it came in contact with the turbo I was able to notice it before it actually had caught on fire, this time I was not so lucky.

15 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/19/2010

This is the second time this problem happened in 7 months. I was sitting at a light and started to accelerate, the exhaust brake engaged and prevented me from moving forward. I was able to move by slightly depressing the accelerator a little at a time. When I approached my next traffic light, the engine rpm dropped to 500 and then shot up to 1200 rpms. When this happened the truck lurched forward and almost hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk. It also put me half way into a busy intersection. There were multiple close calls that could have caused injury or death. The truck is currently at the dealer again but I am very concerned about this issue. It seems I am not the only person this has happened to.

The manual instructs the operator not to operate the vehicle for a prolonged period with the warning light on. They instructed me to listen to the dealer. The dealer told me to take the complaint to Dodge. I have a brand new vehicle with warning lights appearing instructing me not to operate the vehicle and Dodge doesn't have a fix.

2007 Dodge Ram 2500 w/ 6. 7 diesel has major problem with exhaust system, a dpf (diesel particulate filter) clogs up in as early as 2500 miles and clogs continuously if vehicle is not (driven like you stole it) as suggested to me by dealer, this problem increases exhaust temps, and causes vehicle to cut out and hesitate on take offs and requires constant repair at the dealer, there are aftermarket parts to fix problem but it is recommended for offroad use only. But many of my friends have made the changes and have had no further problems.

20 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 07/13/2009

We own a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 6. 7 liter diesel 4 x4 truck, bought with 7311 miles and a full warranty. We bought in January 2008. It has numerous issues that make me literally vomit when I have to drive it. We have had 6 repairs to this vehicle since June 2008 for emission/turbo/wiring/transmission issues. I do not feel safe in this truck and the dealership says they have "fixed" it everytime. A vehicle that loses engine and transmission power on the highway is not a safe means of transportation. They always tell me it is "being taken care of by Dodge recall/computer flashes, but this truck has been a nightmare since we bought it. Our first issue began in April 2008 with a constant engine warning light blaring at us all the time. The dealer told us it "just something these trucks do". It could be one of 200 small things, keep driving it, it's ok. Vehicle began stalling and hesitating on me in traffic, I felt it was unsafe and took it to dealership. The first of many 02 sensor recall/replacement/cleanings. It lost power again in August 2008 and I had to be towed in. Another 02/turbo issue. Again in October 2008 lost power, ditto for repairs. Next time it broke down was February 20090. Ditto for turbo/emission. Most recently was July 2009. Engine and transmission stalled out on me pulling onto a busy highway. . . . . Twice in one week. Dealer couldn't duplicate issue with computer, finally decided it was probably a wiring issue and replaced a harness. I have told the service dept that this vehicle is not safe, and I have complained to Chrysler. They tell me it is repaired and that is all they can do. I need help getting this vehicle off of the road. The dealer and Chrysler don't seem to think the safety of my children is very important. I hope somebody in your department does. Does it take a death or serious accident to have these issues evaluated?.

21 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 2500

24 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/18/2008

Epa driven dpf filter on cummins diesel 2008 2500 truck is always causing problems with check engine light. Dealers have had to put a port on turbo, clean exhaust, wrap exhaust, and claim that customers are idling too much. Pollution control devices are obviously bad design. They burn extra diesel in exhaust to burn soot and make mileage go down by 10mpg. 2006 to 2008 change lost significant mpg. The 6. 7l engine needs addressing with final fixes that won't continue to make customers go to dealer over and over again for repairs.

25 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 07/13/2008

I own a 2007 Dodge diesel that has a recurring problem with the emission system. It is a common problem that they can't seem to fix. The vehicle meets the lemon law needs but Dodge refuses to call me about this. The vehicle has been in the dealership several times. It has had the turbo replaced twice and the computer reprogrammed 3 times. Also a couple cleanings for the turbo.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer ten times and the computerized system was reprogrammed on each occasion. The dealer stated that the exhaust particulate filter would need to be replaced. However, the part needed was no longer being produced. The contact mentioned that the complete exhaust system required replacement due to the exhaust particulate filter not being available to service the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

28 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 10/18/2007

I took delivery of my Dodge 2500 mega cab pickup with the cummins 6. 7 diesel motor. Almost since the first day, I have had the truck back to the service department at the dealer for a failing emission system. The dpf and regeneration system is constantly clogging and rendering my vehicle undrivable. When this occurs, I return to the dealer, have the part cleaned, or replaced, and I am told that it will occur again. According to my dealers service manager, and Dodge, there is no known fix for this problem. Upon speaking to Dodge customer service regarding a buyback of my vehicle, I have been hung up on, put on hold for hours, told my dealer has to buy it back, or told to hire a lawyer. When researching this matter, I have found that I am not alone with these types of problems with the new 6. 7 Dodge trucks. I need to know what recourse I have in this matter with Dodge, or my dealer directly.

30 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 05/01/2004

I purchased a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 cummins truck. There are horrible diesel oil fumes entering the cab from the engine compartment. I was first told by the dealer that it was due to the engine being new. After 15,000 miles I was told that they have an oil additive available to 'fix' the problem by making it smell better. My 9 month pregnant wife cannot ride with me. The fumes are horrible and are causing nausea, headaches, and possibly poisoning which I have no way to verify. The smell is so bad I am not sure what to do, but it is completely unacceptible and seemingly very dangerous and could be fatal in the winter months when the windows must be rolled up. I have researched this issue on several online forums and many people are having this issue with the 2003 and 2004 Dodge ram cummins 2500 and 3500 trucks.

31 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 03/04/2004

Diesel exhaust fumes in cab with heater/ac fan on. Many complaints of similar problem from other owners of this model as researched from website forums. Problem is documented as esential parts missing from heater/ac system which allows fumes from engine compartment to be drawn into the driver /passenger compartment. Probable carbon monoxide hazard to driver and occupants. VIN 3dk7ku28c14g171791, manufacture date 12/09/2003.

32 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 01/22/2004

Consumer complained about fumes permeating the interior of the vehicle. The fumes were causing the occupants to suffer headaches, nausea, and drowsiness when the window was up.

33 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 04/20/2003

The fumes from the exhaust pipe entered the cabin of the vehicle from the climate control system. The fumes were coming from the blow down pipe which comes off the crank casing of the engine. When the cooling fan was in use it blew the fumes into the climate control , thus blowing it into the cabin of the vehicle. The dealership has installed a rubber pipe on the end of the blow down pipe, that leads under the main cab of the vehicle, so now when the vehicle is at a complete stop, with the window open, the fumes are coming through the window. Also at 15,000, when the brake pedal is depressed while driving at high speeds, the vehicle jerks forward and the fails to stop immediately. This occurred because the brake rotors were warped.
