Fuel transfer pump failure in my 1999 Dodge ram lead to a injector pump failure with in minutes. Poor engineering! $2600 or more for repairs for a truck that is well kept!.
The fuel pump failed , and the caller was told that part was on a nationwide back order. He was waiting for 2 weeks to get the fuel pump. He was told by the manufacturer to file a complaint on how long he had to wait for the part. Currently, he has his fuel pump. The caller said that the backorder was about 300 at a time, he was concerned that the part was failing prematurely.
On March 2003 while driving vehicle stalled, and was driven to the nearest dealership, who replaced both fuel pumps at manufacturer's expense. One year later vehicle has the same symptom as the previous year. Dealership indicated again it was the injector fuel pump, but was not any longer under warrannty. Just the part will cost consumer $1400 plus labor.

The vehicle stall while driving 55-60 mph. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed the failure as a failed fuel transfer pump. Please provide any further information.
Vehicle stalled while driving. Consumer stated that the fuel pump was corroded, and replaced it. The engine had shaken harshly when it stalled. The vehicle was difficult to steer the over to the shoulder. The consumer found a positive wire on the fuel transfer lift pump had corroded and broken off causing the engine to stall. The wires for the transfer lift pump had no protective cover and were exposed to the elements. Chrysler redesigned the fuel pump.
While driving at 55 mph engine started missing, then suddenly the engine stalled. Consumer tried several times to get the engine running again. Consumer found that the problem was the fuel pump. The consumer went to the dealer to buy a new fuel pump, and was informed by the mechanic that there was a common problem with that vehicles fuel pump.
When the cruise control was engaged the speed exceeded the speed set by the consumer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that the engine control module needed to be replaced. There was also a recall on the fuel transfer pump. The pump was replaced, but now a new pump is needed.
While driving 40 mph and coming to a stop the vehicle stalled. The consumer managed to pull the vehicle over but it would not restart. It was later determined that the fuel transfer pump failed.
I have a 1999 Dodge truck with cummins diesel. I would like to report a incident that prompted a concern for myself and my family. As I was on vacation with my family, we were traveling to st. Louis for a weekend race. While traveling up a long hill, my truck began to loose power. This grade was a two lane highway, that was moderately curvy. Fuel pressure was down significantly as indicated by my added gauge. Upon arrival to our destination, I replaced the factory lift pump (fuel transfer pump) and immediately noticed a large difference in power. Had the truck actually died during this incident, it would have been nearly impossible to restart, thus leaving a two lane highway blocked on a hill in curves. This caused major concern as it is a high traffic area and many tractor-trailers use this busy stretch of highway. The main cause of failure for these pumps is an incorrect application as described by the pump manufacturer. Diamler-Chrysler is aware of the problem, but has chosen not to address the concern. Thank you for your time in this matter.
Transfer fuel pump was twice replaced under 100,000 mile warranty. Currently, vehicle needed a third replacement after 140,000 miles. Also, fifth gear was completely gone. This occurred at 140,000 mi.
The injection pump failed and the vehicle started to idle wide open, consumer was unable to turn motor off with the key and had to stall the motor out. Nlm.
