Dodge Ram 2500 owners have reported 3 problems related to tank mounting (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 with 68,500 miles, left me on the side of the road. According to the dealership the fuel tank vent has allowed dirt and other contaminents in to the fuel system. This in turn clogged several other components. To fix the problem they had to drop the fuel tank, clean and flush the system, dispence of 34 gallons of fuel, install a "vent up fit kit"($675. 00) and re-install fuel tank. Total cost to me. . . $1175. 00 dealeship, plus 34gal. Of fuel (34gal. X $3. 85) = $130. 90. If they have an up fit kit, wouldn't that suggest Dodge has knowledge of this problem? wouldn't that amount to a recall if the origonal equipment was sub-par and needed to be repaired with a heavier version? I think so!.

On 9/20/2007 I took my 96 Dodge pickup for an oil change and the attendant noticed that the front gas tank strap (1 of 2) was rusted through and broken. Upon further examination the back strap was found to be corroded also.

The front fuel tank strap broke, causing the front end of the fuel tank to drop down to the road surface. Friction against the road surface caused a hole to form in the tank, allowing fuel to leak out. Looking at the fuel tank strap, it appears that there had been a crack across approx. 50% of the width for some time due to the formation of rust seen in the cross section.
