Dodge Ram 2500 owners have reported 7 problems related to other fuel system tank assembly (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Traveling on hwy at 55 mph when truck lost all power including power steering. No warning. Steered to side of hwy and stopped. Hwy was under construction and 50 more yards I would have been in middle of road because no shoulder with construction. Truck restarted, and I continued on because in rural area. Truck stopped again in middle of intersection in town about 2hrs later. Dealer could not look at it until next day, so I had to drive home (40 mi) and hope I made it. Brought it back next morning and told needed new lift pump and would keep it overnight. My dealer's service dept is great, and they gave me a ride home (40 mi). No option to install original pump of several hundred dollars. Had to install one in the fuel tank with cost of $1000. Several concerns. One, this seems to be an engineering defect since they now install the lift pump in the gas tank where it should have been all along. Two, they are making a nice sum to replace it and put it in the tank. Three, this is an urgent safety factor because when vehicle shuts down, there is no power steering. There are drop-offs with narrow shoulders (or no shoulder as in my case because of construction) along hwys in my area. I could very easily have gone over or down the side of one of our hills. Four, vehicle can lose power in the middle of an intersection when making a turn in front of oncoming traffic (as it did in my case). Five, there is no prior warning or way to check the potential of this happening. When this happened yesterday and I started researching, it was the first I had heard of it. My truck is serviced regularly by my dealer, and there is no test for this. It was a very scary situation on the hwy and in the middle of the intersection. The fact that I have had the truck for several yrs shows that eventually they will probably all fail and should be replaced before they do.

My wife was driving the vehicle down hwy 29 in lake county and started hearing a noise from under the vehicle only when driving she pulled over and couldn't see the problem so she continued driving till she could get to my place of employment where I could climb under the vehicle and inspect it where I found that the shield on the fuel tank had broke and was flopping on the drive shaft wearing a grove in it. I had to tear off the flimsy metal until I could have it replaced . I purchased the new piece from Dodge that was incredibly heavier duty than the original, I was told by Dodge that there was a recall for fuel tank shields but my truck wasn't included in the recall, even though my truck clearly had the same part this could of damaged the fuel tank causing a fuel leak . Hoblit Dodge in woodland CA. Installed the new shield and wouldn't do anything about the part or the labor, neither would lithia Dodge of santa rosa CA. I have retained the old shield for proof as well as the bills to buy and replace it.

While accelerating the truck start the decelerate and reaccelerate multiple times within a 2-3 second time period and the check engine light came on for large evap leak. This issue happened a number of times throughout a couple week time period. When I brought it to the dealer they said there was debris in the tank that could have clogged the lines, flushed out the lines and continued on. The issue happened again a couple of weeks later and continued for weeks. I brought it back to the dealer they said the pump was bad and needs to be replace, replaced pump continue on. After about 8 months the issue came back and check engine light came back on for large evap leak. Had system check for leaks and found none. The issue still continue months later a random intervals. Luckily the acceleration issue has been mostly when I was accelerating from low speeds and from stop lights. If I had this issue when trying get a cross a busy intersecting I could be killer.

This is a cng truck with a 35 gal gasoline tank and two 9 gal cng tanks --- the truck was purchased to save fuel money by using primarily cng the truck computer program switches the cng to use gasoline too often . We use 1/4 tank of gasoline every week -- the truck is a cng vehicle not a gasoline truck -- the dealer says ram is coming up with a new computer program the correct this although none of the dealers can tell us when.
