Dodge Ram 2500 owners have reported 92 problems related to other fuel system (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While the NHTSA is looking at the later Dodge diesel pickups, the 5. 9 engines commonly fail at low mileage (mine was at 100,000 miles) by the intank pump failing. Mine shut off at 45mph in traffic on state 33 in idaho without warning. . My truck was towed to repair facility and waited 4 weeks for a substitute pump to be installed. The turbo diesel register magazine commonly has articles of the hundreds of doidge ram owners who have been stranded and sometimes lives endangered by the pump failure. Dealers are aware of the problem, give a wink and a nod and as the part is not available, I paid nearly $1400 for a r & r fuel tank, labor, and a fass brand pump/filter to get back on the road. This happened in August 2020 and didn't run till sept 2020. Work order available. Truck has had 3,000 mile service it's existance, at Dodge 5 star dealer.

On a 35mph street, truck suddenly bucking as if it was going to stall, and the rpm's were erratic. I put it in n pulled over and shut it off. It restarted with no issues. I drove about 9 miles, pulled into my driveway and was coasting up it, when suddenly the truck accelerated. I depressed the brake, nothing. I slammed it in park and shut it off. It happened a few times while idling, or moving at a slow rate. I was stopped at a light when it suddenly accelerated into a 50mph, 4 lane main thoroughfare. I stepped on parking brake, turned it off and thanked god that I was unharmed. I started back up, put it in d, depressed the gas pedal (light turned green) and it would not accelerate. I took my foot off the gas, then it bucked a few times and accelerated on it's own. I depressed the brake pedal, but it kept revving up and accelerating. Again, I depressed the emergency brake and shut it off. It just happened again as I was coming up my suburban 35mph street. I got to approximately 20mph when it wouldn't accelerate further. I bucked and choked, rpm's jumping up and down the last 100 yards. I turned into my driveway at an idling rate and it took off like a shot. I pressed the brake and it still kept accelerating. If I hadn't turned the wheel, I would have driven through my garage. This is not an isolated incident. I suffer from idiopathic cardiomyopathy and ckd, these incidents have caused me to be unable to breathe as my heart was beating so fast. This must be addressed immediately!.

I stopped at a gas station and was filling my veh. With gas and it began to vigorously spray out of the filler neck where the gas cap fits and the station's filler nozzle, all over my skin, cloths, the side of the veh. And the ground. This was a gusher of gas spraying out with force and would not let me fill the veh. ! this has happened on several of the Dodge ram trucks and is covered on all models except mine. The dealer tells me it is recall# x49 on other trucks all around my VIN # and age but not mine. This a big fire issue and if other trucks do it and get fixed why is mine less likely to catch fire this has happened to me several times and I have had to fill it from a can with a funnel to be able to drive. This negates any evaporative emission controls I have. Please help me!.

Truck randomly and without warning shut off while in motion on a busy city street. Would not restart. Popped the hood and got strong smell of diesel fuel. Discovered cylinder number four high pressure fuel line ( from rail to feeder tube) leaking a lot of fuel onto the engine. This happened without warning and there were no signs or symptoms that something was wrong. Turns out this is a common issue with cummins diesel engines and have been known in the past to cause these truck to catch fire in some instances. It is a $71 part from the dealership but it does affect other cylinders as well. All 6 high pressure fuel lines should be replaced and since there is no recall for the defect I will be putting the money out to replace all of them.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. While driving approximately 80 mph, the vehicle vibrated abnormally. Within seconds, a loud noise was heard under the vehicle. The driver was able to coast onto the road shoulder and found unknown parts had separated from the vehicle while driving. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transfer case, constant velocity joint, universal joint, fuel lines, and brakes lines failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 270,000.

I have been on a waiting list with our local Dodge dealership to get my recalls repaired for several months. Every time I call they just say I am on the list and they are too busy. I keep receiving notices in the mail and would like to get these taken care of as there are now several recalls that need to be addressed. I also just found out from the website here that this same dealership did not fully complete my last recall repair. Dealership is allen samuels Dodge in waco, texas.
The number 4 cyl fuel deliver line off of the common rail system cracked on my 5. 9l cummins diesel. This is a very common issue if anyone simply searches on the internet. Dieseltruckresource. Com for instance had one thread with over 40 pages of complaints. The issue with this fuel line is that it is held down by an inferior clamp design that vibrates, loosens, then the line fails due to engine vibration. The part that Chrysler replaces with it is completely different. When mine broke my engine was not hot yet, but if the exhaust was hot I'm sure it could have ignited. I dumped probably 2 gallons of diesel when it went. With such a high pressure in that common rail system it could seriously injure someone as well. I work for a diesel engine provider as an engineer and would be ashamed of my company if we didn't have a recall to protect our customers if this happened to one of our products.
No indicators of any issues to this - while driving between 65 and 75 mph the truck begins to smoke not only out of the back end of the truck but underneath the body as well as under the hood of the truck, and we began to smell fuel. The cel light then comes on. We had the whole family in the truck and a small fire extinguisher. This is really nerving since Dodge/Chrysler as well as cummins knowing this line is a problem and has not done a darn thing about it to rectify any compensation. I hate to say this but I guess it is going to take someone getting really hurt but your attitude of not wanting recall such a fire hazard! look at all the forums and see that this is a common issue with the fuel line! line to 4th injector now major repair because of it all the fuel lost under the hood and all over the engine and firewall!.
Tipm (total integrated power module) failed while driving vehicle. Vehicle lost engine power, power steering, and brakes. ¾-ton trucks are very heavy and are near impossible to turn and control without power steering and do not stop without power brakes. I was able to maneuver vehicle to the side of the road with minimal damage to the body. I was lucky to not cause a bigger accident and lucky not to injure myself or anybody else. This tipm failure is very common with Dodge vehicles and I am disgusted how Chrysler-Dodge has conducted themselves in regard to recalls and warranty. Had I been towing a trailer on the highway I would have certainly caused an accident. I fear this tipm failure will result in loss of life if it hasn't so already.

All of a sudden my brakes failed could not steer correctly and I lost control of the truck slamming into an oncoming vehicle. It felt like I was steering to go straight and the steering wheel just turned on its own. Now I have a $2800 bill to pay the body shop and I need to get my steering box replaced. I would like help with that. And most important I need these recalls done once I get my truck out of the body shop. My only request is that when I bring it in to the dealer I would like them to also fix my steering box at no charge.

#4 fuel line ruptured and spewed fuel all over engine compartment and underbody. Had truck towed to local Dodge dealer for repair. Seems like this is a common problem on Ram 2500 diesels model 2006.

Dash board has desintegrated due to faulty materials. Dash has been covered since about 2 weeks after date of purchase which was Dec 31st 1999. Truck was ordered straight from the factory an I am the only owner of the vehicle since day 1. Set papers on dash and when I picked them up realised a soft spot in the dash mat. Lifted mat to find large hole in dash.

Chrysler has had NHTSA campaign number: 14v635000 component(s): engine and engine cooling , fuel system, diesel in effect since October 2014. My truck has this recall problem. I continually have engine code p2609 active. I have contacted Chrysler about this and all they will say is that the repair parts are not available. My truck is still under warranty but Chrysler will not repair the truck. Along with the "check engine light", I have a diesel fuel smell entering the passenger compartment at various times. Chrysler will give me no date as to when they will repair this problem. The local dealers say they can do nothing until Chrysler get the repair parts needed. It seems logical that if Chrysler has issued a warranty on a vehicle then they should be able to repair the vehicle.

After driving the truck to a dentist appointment, the truck would not start and there was fuel spraying out of the engine compartment when turning the engine over. A few days earlier, I had commented about the diesel engine having a "hiccup". After having the vehicle towed to a dealership, the service manager said "I bet I know what it is without even looking". As it turns out, he was absolutely correct. The #4 cylinder fuel injector line was ruptured and spaying fuel everywhere. He indicated that the '06 was vulnerable to breaking that particular injector line due to vibrations. I looked tb's up on the internet and there were none. However, I found numerous consumer complaints about the same line failure for '05 and '06 models. This condition is totally unacceptable. If the failure occurs while on the road and the engine shuts down, there could be serious risks to everyone on the road as these rigs are made to pull trailers and other heavy equipment. In addition, numerous of the complaints cited engine compartment fires. If this situation doesn't warrant an NHTSA investigation and subsequent recall, I don't know what it would take.

I own a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel with a automatic transmission. This occurred on two occasions the first was on Saturday 1/31/2015 and the second on Monday 2/2/2015. I had just pulled out of my shop when the engine suddenly accelerated at extreme high speed, I slammed on the brakes immediately however as one can imagine the response time and/or the capacity of the braking system was limited due to the high torque of the engine. Non-the-less I was fortunate not to have any other vehicle in my vicinity. This same scenario occur two more time on my way home which is about 4 miles from my shop. The check engine light came on at the time of the first occurrence. I let the truck sit for a couple days, however needed to plow out from a large snowstorm. Upon restarting the truck, the check engine light was off and everything was back to normal. Things changed approximately a half hour into plowing when the sudden acceleration occurred once again and this time within inches of ending up in the drainage ditch at the end of my driveway. It occurred two more times as I was completing the plowing. Also, out of the blue it would idle down with no response when I depressed the accelerator, then after a moment or two it would respond. During the idle the voltage meter would drop to just about zero. I did find some references to the apps (accelerator pedal position sensor) on the web, however when I checked in with my local dealer they stated that they had no recall notice on this. After experiencing this, there is no doubt in my mind that this is quite a serious matter and should be looked into. This situation could easily cause injury or death. I have forty years of driving experience and have never encountered anything of this sort before. I will be taking the vehicle to the dealership, however I feel quite strongly that this should be covered under a recall.
