Dodge Ram 2500 owners have reported 18 problems related to windshield (under the visibility category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The mechanism (hvac) that directs hot and cold air among the windshield, dash, and floor failed. It was a very cold day in December and I was attending a funeral 150 miles from home. It was a safety concern because the windshield kept frosting up and my feet became very cold because all the heat was coming out of the dash. The hvac could not be fixed en route because (1) it took three weeks to get a new hvac housing, (2) it was a Saturday afternoon and repair stations were closed, and (3) the repair takes about 8 hours because the entire dash has to be removed to replace the hvac housing and doors. It cost $1,417. 45 to fix. (I can furnish a copy of the invoice if you like. ) I have learned that the failure of this hard-to-get-at plastic housing is not uncommon among Dodge trucks. In fact in this small town of 2,500 people another 2003 Dodge truck came in for repairs to the same dealership with the same problem in the same week. Dodge is obviously using faulty materials.

In January of this year the blend and mode control doors failed on my 2006 Dodge ram. When these components fail, the driver is either unable to adjust the temperature of the heating/cooling system, they are unable to control the air flow (floor, dash, windshield), or in my case- both. Living in a northern climate, it is an absolute necessity to have a functioning defrost system. This is a huge safety concern as driver visibility can be greatly limited. After the failure, I did some research and found many cases of the same failure being experienced by other ram owners. The failure is so common that you can easily find several write ups on the issue and details about how someone can fix the problem when it happens if they cannot afford the obscene price that Dodge dealerships want to charge to fix the problem. The failure is so common that there even are improved 3rd party parts that are upgraded in design and quality so the problem is not as likely to repeat itself. This is not only a failure that is annoying, but it also a failure that is very much a safety issue.

Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500. While parked the contact noticed minimal air was emitting from the defroster vents. The contact stated there was a hinge that fractured on the blend door not allowing the air to come in contact with the windshield properly. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics and was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage 144,000. Kmj.
Climate control blend doors malfunction and cannot use the defrost mode for the windshield causing a hazardous situation. The blend doors are made of plastic which get stripped from the motor coupling. This is a wide spread problem for the 2003 -2008 Dodge ram truck.
Cold weather causes ice to form on the inside and outside of the windshield and the heater control would not go to defrost. Had to stop in heavy traffic to scrape the inside and outside of windshield to remove ice. The air flow, blend door plastic actuator that is connected to the electric motor broke. The dealer told me it is very common and charged me 578. 93 to fix the problem. I had no choice but to have them fix it because it was to dangerous to drive in the winter.
Defrosters will not come on when control knob is turned to defrost position. During my recent trip from one state to the next I had to drive through a snow/ ice storm and needed to defrost my windshield, I turned the knob to defrost but nothing came out it just continued to blow through the vents. I have been having this problem now and it is causing dangerous commutes for me.
A went in the defroster system that activates the fresh air or in cab circulation system failed at the pivot point. The door then fell over the fan at the bottom of the system which doesn't allow any air to flow out of any vent. I live near minneapolis , mn and this happened in August so there were no issues but if this had happened during the winter the defrost function would not have worked which is something that drivers in minnesota rely on every day in the winter to be able to see out the windshield.
I can't defrost my windshield on my 2003 Dodge truck. Last weekend when it started to rain, my windows fogged up and I had no defrosters to clear them. I almost caused a wreck on I-10 and finally had to pull into a rest stop until the rain stopped and the humidity dropped. The ac works good, just can't get air to the windshield. Dodge knows how to fix the problem, but says it's not a safety issue.
Defrost windshield, no air.

It was snowing I had my three children in the truck the window fogged and when I put on the defrost it only came out the vents and did not clear the windshield I could not see as I was going down the highway and had to pull off the road. It was fixed once before in 2007 and did not last 6 months.
The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500. The windshield was damaged by a stone and had to be replaced. A certified glass and body shop technician stated that the seal between the pain and the windshield did not adhere to the vehicle. He further stated that the windshield could fail at any moment. A letter explaining the defect is available from the technician. The speed, fuel system, purchase date, and powertrain were unknown. The current mileage was 27,500 and failure mileage was 27,451. Updated 3/4/08
the consumer stated communicated between dealer, Dodge corp, and district manager who refused reimbursement for repairs. The consumer stated Dodge pays for spot welding not complete replacement. Updated 03/04/08.

The defrost door and the blend door in my 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 is inoperative. It failed during the winter of 2007. The windshield will not clear thus causing an extreme hazard when attempting to drive the vehicle in inclement weather. I took the vehicle to the dealership in may 2008 and they admitted there was a problem and that there was a technical service bulletin but would not cover the repair due to being out of warranty. I agreed to pay for the repair. Upon them repairing it they discovered that all of the inside duct doors had failed and charged me to replace all of them. It has again broken and the dealer will not cover the repairs. I asked how it could fail again and they told me Chrysler has not corrected the failed parts and are providing faulty parts for the repairs. I contacted Chrysler and they declined any assistance. This is a serious safety hazard as the windshield and all other windows will fog over preventing visibility. I have searched the internet and have found this to be a large scale problem in these trucks. A safety recall should be done.
2004 Dodge Ram 2500. A/c and heater blend doors have failed. Unable to get air to defrost windshield. I have contacted Dodge about the problem and they refuse to reply to my inquiry. As a professional registered engineer, I can assure you that this definitely a safety issue. I just moved to texas where hot humid weather is the norm, as well as the possibility of ice storms. Not being able to defrost your windshield is definitely a safety concern. I have to reach for a towel to keep wiping the inside of the windshield. If it is very cold, icing of the windshield becomes a real issue. Without heated air being directed to the windshield allows for freezing precipitation to accumulate on the windshield. The driver is then forced to stop to remove the ice. My research into this issue reveals that Chrysler has known about this problem for years, but continued to install the defective parts into new manufacturing years. Also, Chrysler wants upwards to $1000 to fix the problem, the average driver cannot afford this so is forced to deal with the situation. In my opinion this is definitely a safety issue that affects drivers in all parts of the country. Hopefully no has an accident and is injured or dies, or causes injury or death to someone else because he cannot safely see through the windshield of his Chrysler vehicle. Please investigate my complaint and act to insure the safety of drivers and occupants of the Chrysler vehicles experiencing this defect. .
The heater/ defroster does not function properly. It results in no heat by my lower extremities and poor defrosting of windshield. I contacted the dealership and they informed me that I was not the only 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 to have this issue. I took it to another mechanic and he confirmed that I was not the first with this issue. I count ten including myself. I went to the manufacture and got a copy of a service bulletin detailing this issue, but no formal recall was ever issued. Chrysler refuses to do anything because they do not consider this a safety issue. I personally consider poor visibility from one's windshield due to faulty defroster a safety issue. No one has had a crash to my knowledge, but if a cop can write a citation for a minor chip, could they not do the same for a foggy windshield?.
Consumer states that while driving a small rock hit the windshield. Consumer is concerned because windshield immediately cracked all the way across. Nlm.
