Dashboard Crack Problems of Dodge Ram 3500 - part 1

2001 Dodge Ram 3500 dashboard failure!! dash started getting large cracks in it several years ago, now I removed it to replace the heater core and the dash fell apart into, literally 22 pieces. After trying to find one I go to realize this is a common and major safety problem for this year and after phone calls to the Dodge dealer and to Dodge themselves they do not care nor do they want to help and good luck affording a new one. Only thing I can find that is reasonably priced is a dash `cover` but I do not even have enough large pieces of dash to reinstall to even cover it.

On the date noted above I noticed a 10 inch long crack had developed on the passenger side front dashboard slightly to the right of center. In a collision where the front airbags are deployed, this will become razor sharp shrapnel causing severe injury or death. Dodge refuses to do anything to mitigate this flaw, which they have acknowledged is due to Dodge utilizing sub-standard materials when making the dashboards for the ram truck series. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of complaints regarding the cracked dashes in ram trucks from frustrated owners. Its only a matter of time until somone is injured or killed when one of these dashes explodes like a grenade when the airbag goes off during a collision.

Approximate incident date is not accurate. The vehicle started with two lengthwise cracks years ago from windshield towards driver and passenger. Within the past two months the once rigid-pliable dash unit has cracked into brittle pieces with some falling into dash interior. Some pieces are jagged and pointed.

The contact owns a 2003 Dodge ram 2500. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracked and detaching from the vehicle. There were cracks located by the air bag compartment on the passenger's side. The dash started cracking in 2011, now it has so many cracks and sharp edges, you can't wipe off the dash without getting a cut on your hand. Very dangerous situation, can only imagine what would happen in an accident. This vehicle has been garage kept, the quality of materials Chrysler used is flawed and now extremely dangerous. My truck has low mileage and Chrysler is playing favorites by replacing some and not others. . Totally not fair.

My 2002 Dodge truck is like so many others, the dash is cracking and crumbling into the electrical wiring behind the dash. During research it seems to be a problem with a lot of these Dodges and also a safety problem, which Dodge has choose to ignore. I realize that to sum this is not life threatening but with some of the complaints and results of the dash following into the electrical components under this faulty dash , it could cause accidents and or serious injuries.

The two piece dash on my 2003 Ram 3500 truck has cracked in several places. This continues to get worse with additional cracks showing up in several areas. The edges of this dash along the cracks is very sharp and in a crash this would cause a severe safety hazard. Chrysler is not responding well to these defective parts as well even though this problem is happening in several year models as well as other car models.

Dash just suddenly started cracking was cleaning dash and a fingers went through it cutting my finger now dash a over 20 cracks and holes in it. If I were to get into an accident I think splinters of dash would impale me.

2003 Dodge Ram 3500 dash cover has cracked and shattered. There have been not collisions, etc. With the truck, it just started cracking. Then the local dealership took it out 3-4 times to attempt to repair a heater core and a/c problem. Each remove/replace cycle resulted in additional damage. Currently, two completed cracks through the entire dash, running parallel with the frame. The forward portion with the defrost vents is also cracked and 5 of the 7 vents are damaged or totally missing. Nothing has ever been placed on this dash heavier than a baseball hat, it has no scratches of dings. The edges of the cracks and resulting holes in the dash are sharp and would cut any exposed skin that came into contact with them. I would hate to be in any collision with this vehicle as dash plastic would be flying everywhere. I repeat, there have been not collisions or crashes with this vehicle.

2001 Dodge 3500 pickup, bought used 2 years ago with one small crack in the dash cover. Now the cover has disintegrated over the steering wheel leaving a large hole in the cover. There has been no accident yet but there is the potential if left as it is for damage to wiring/components behind the dash that were not meant to be exposed. 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 pick up truck . . . The dashboard is severely cracking. The dashboard starting cracking in Nov 2009 starting off as a small crack. Now in March 2010 the dashboard is cracking everywhere. Was told by a dealership in 2009 the dash was $500. Now dealership in March 2010 saying dash n/a in the USA. Spoke w/ Dodge corp lodged a complaint. Told by dealership April 2010 that new dash is around $1800 because new dashboard and duct work area needed (that a new system of dash/duct are now being used. ) this indicates that there is a problem on the dashes that Dodge corp is a ware of - but not enough concern to issue recall. This is a known problem with all rams from '98 to '03 - there are complaints listed on the internet and on the news (channel 6 news, orlando, FL 2007 and wlbt3, ms 5/2008). The cracking dashboard can act as shrapnel in an accident causing serious injury. The exposed wires in the sunlight can cause malfunctions while driving which can lead to an accident.

I purchased this truck, dash panel is severely cracked and coming apart in several places, this has been reported as early as June 2006 to the NHTSA, this is a mfg. Defective that has effected many truck of this model, I have always taken care of the interior of the truck, my brother has a 2002 and its the same way. This is a safty issue, can't lay anything on it, have to ware gloves when you clean.

I have a 03 Dodge and my dashboard is cracking, Dodge will do nothing to rectify the problem of which they know they have. Once it begins cracking if you are in a wreck the plastic pieces will act as a flying projectile and could harm someone.

These pieces of hard, sharp plastic could become projectiles in a collision and/or interfere or damage the airbags underneath the dash. This is a serious problem and could be very dangerous. There are many people have the same problem with their Dodge trucks. These are not just small cracks. There are large holes where the dashboard has actually caved in.

Entire right side of the dash has cracked and broken away exposing the airbag and other wiring to sun light. I am concerned that the air bag will deteriote or malfunction. Can not place any thing on the dask, it falls thru the dash and is lost forever.

Dash has cracked and there is a whole large enough to put your head into it. Parts fell out onto my feet while driving. A pillar grab handles have pulled out while climbing into truck. I fell and cracked a rib. Dodge refuses to do anything about this issue. Both of these issues should be a recall as they are safety related. The dash pieces almost cut my foot open. If I had of been wearing shoes instead of boots it would have. My truck is a manual transmission. It fell on top of my ankle and wedged on the pedals while I was holding clutch in the boots protected my ankle when I let off the clutch to grab the plastic piece. If not it would have cut my ankle pretty good as it left a good mark in the leather of my boot.

Dashboard on my Aug 2002 built Dodge Ram 3500 has extensive cracks. Internet sites show a number of other Dodge vehicles with this same issue - some much worse than mine. Potential safety risks include distracting driver due to dash cracking. Other owners with more severe cracks have reported electrical system failures due to dashboard cracks and dashboard falling inward.

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 w/cummins diesel. A year ago (2008) the dashboard developed a small crack in the dashboard. Thinking that it was just a stress crack and comes with age I did not think anymore about it until as of late, the entire dash is shattering and collapsing onto itself. This is dropping shards of plastic into areas not intended to have plastic dropped into it. I thought that this was an isolated case until I started researching the problem and found that this is a very common problem with Dodge ram trucks. Dodge has evidently refused to acknowledge that this is a common problem with their quality control.

Dash on my Dodge 3500 caved in and has several more large cracks that are likely to follow suit with the same failure. Dash pieces continue to fall in the structural part of the dash and several cracks are finding their way to my pass. Side airbag.
