Hydraulic Power Assist Steering System Problems of Dodge Ram 3500

2007 Dodge 3500 lost steering power. Consumer states that the vehicle was almost impossible to steer. Mechanic determined that a metal gear in the power steering assembly was faulty. The metal shavings from the hear had contaminated the entire power steering system and had also damaged the power steering pump.

The steering wheel would only turn when the vehicle was moving but also when the vehicle was not moving. The steering wheel could not be turned. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, dutches Dodge, and the contact was told there was nothing they could do to fix it. I am having a problem with the power steering that the local Chrysler dealer cannot figure out. I've recently started getting a whining noise from the steering while sitting in the driveway. The last time that I noticed this noise I later noticed fluid under the truck coming from the power steering location. The dealer could not determine where it was leaking from and placed dye in the resevoir and ran the truck for two hours. They did not notice a leak or the whine.
