1 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 09/22/2018

Driving on a 35 mph road going across the cross road got hit by a truck doing about 70 mph. Hit on the passenger side front bumper to the back edge truck f the front passenger tire. Put into a spin then was hit in the rear passenger tire and bumper. No air bags came out with massive trauma to both myself as driver and my passenger. Police, ambulance and doctors asked why the air bags did not expand. If the air bags would of worked less injuries would of happened. We had just stopped at a stop sign and proceeded to cross the road at like about 15 mph when hit.

4 Air Bag problem of the 2003 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 04/25/2016

The entire dashboard from driver's side to passenger side as well as from the front where it meets the windshield to where it wraps over and connects to entire panel facing the front seats is warping and pulling away from everything it is suppose to help hold into place. It is now rising above the passenger air bag compartment. If this air bag deploys it will definitely either throw the entire dashboard or massive pieces of it directly toward the passenger and driver (since the warping has dislodged it from everything) or it will deploy and the warped dashboard could cause the air bag to be thrown up toward the windshield, sun visor support & new tether strap which could cause even more issues. The warping has also started to affect every cover it connects to on the dash, pulling & pushing them loose. These items can now also be thrown throughout the vehicle in a crash. I have only owned my vehicle 6 months, the summer heat has not even arrived. At the rate it is warping, I have no doubt it will probably be a minimum of 2 inches above air bag compartment within the next 3 months. Please help us stay safe and recall these dashboards before someone gets seriously injured. Accidents are bad enough, we need to prevent additional injuries and problems that these defective dashboards are obviously going to cause.

17 Air Bag problem of the 2006 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 05/16/2015

While investigating a minor two vehicle traffic crash involving the above mentioned vehicle, I noticed that both front air bags had deployed. The driver had sustained swelling and abrasions to his hands and forearms from the airbags, and the front seat passenger complained of soreness in the shoulders. No medical treatment was called for. Upon examining the damage to the vehicle that they were riding in, I saw that the only damage from the crash was to the right front corner. A vehicle that was traveling to the right of them and slightly ahead of them attempted to make a left hand turn. The left side of that vehicle (chevy trailblazer) struck the right front fender of the Dodge Stratus, as it turned (sideswiped). The damage to the Stratus did not seen severe enough to warrant an air bag deployment, and there was no direct frontal impact between the two vehicles. Pictures are available.

Failure Date: 04/10/2006

I bought my 2001 Stratus r/t used. Not even a year after I had bought it, I had to pay over $100 to get it to idle right. Then I was in a not-at-fault accident 6 mos. Later with over $8,000 in damages to the front end and the air bags didn't deploy. After the wreck I had to pay over $ 1,300 to get the shocks & struts fixed just to have it mess up not even 4 mos. Later. It also as a rotten odor coming from it occasionally. I also paid almost $200 for a new battery to have it start to drain not even 6-7 mos. Later! and when the battery had to be cleaned, I had to get it re-idled again! now it won't stay started unless you're giving it gas. I love the look, but worst car I ever bought. And it's not even paid off!!!! *e. G. *.

29 Air Bag problem of the 2003 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 03/06/2004

I bought my Dodge Stratus in Feb. Of 2004, it is a 2003. Since then it has been in the shop 5 times due to the motor in the window going out, the air conditioning going out, the cruise control went out, the cd player is not functioning correctly and now the safety feature (air bag system) is failing as well. I have owned other cars in the past with higher miles than this vehicle and I never had the problems that I am having with this one. I am upset with this vehicle. I feel that buying a newer car with low miles should leave the buyer feeling happy and safe with their decision. However, I am neither happy with this vehicle and I do not feel safe in this vehicle knowing now that there is something wrong with my air bag system. The service department has fixed most of the problems so far (they are unable to get the air bag system looked for a few days. . . So much for safety matters!). I am extremely unhappy with this vehicle and with the Chrysler (Dodge) company.

31 Air Bag problem of the 1997 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 05/18/2003

We had frequent electrical problem with the car and took it to the liberty dealership in johnstown, OH to get them fixed until we got to the point that it was going to take more than the care was valued to guarantee the fix. These items were not covered under our warranty. One day after pulling into our driveway after work, I shut the car off, opened the drivers side door while pulling the emergency brake and the air bags deployed, giving me a pretty good shot in the face. The car was sitting still and not running. The keys weren't even in the ignition. I called Chrysler's customer service line and filed an incident. They assigned a. L. Gilbert to work on the case. A investigator was deployed from a private company out of dayton, OH. He took the car to a dealership in mt. Vernon, OH and determined by looking at the car's computer that it had been wrecked. Obviously, this wasn't the case as there wasn't a dent or scratch on the car and I was sitting still in the driveway. However, Chrysler refused to change their determination. Even though it was requested multiple times, a copy of the report from the investigator from dayton, OH was never provided me. A. L. Gilbert blatantly called me dishonest because he said the computer didn't lie. I convinced him to let me take it to the liberty dealership and have the service manager look at the car while on the phone with him. The liberty service manager told a. L. Gilbert that there was no visible evidence of any accident on the car. A. L. Gilbert said there absolutely had to be something because the computer said so. The libert service mechanic said, in fact the only scratch I see is on the undercarriage and looks like he's driven on a gravel road. Gilbert responded and said that was all the evidence he needed and that the decision stood. I still drive the car today but without air bags and with a dash that lights up like a christmas tree because of the electrical problems.
