While making a turn at 5mph, my front right wheel collapsed causing complete separation of the wheel and control arm in turn causing my axle to come out from the transmission at the cv joint. There is a recall for this ball joint issue but not for my VIN specifically.

While driving down a side road at around 25mpg, the left front wheel made a pop sound and abruptly stopped. When my daughter got out to investigate she saw that the wheel was folded under the car. She had it towed and we learned the tie-rod control arm failed and broke the shaft. Thank god she was not on the highway. We paid 1200. 00 dollars to get her back on the road and 4 months later the passenger side is now making a loud squealing sound when you turn the wheel. Now I learn that it seems the whole front end of these cars are defective and dangerous! OH, and the heat stopped working and will cost 500. 00 to fix.

Recall ball joints and lower control arms tired of replacing tires and I looked it up there was 0 recalls assisted on my car.
Hi! my son was driving my 2006 Dodge Stratus and the control arm broke and the axle separated on the passenger side causing it to hit a parked car. We have a police report that documents the axle separation and pictures are available. I noticed online that this had been a problem with the 2006 Dodge Stratus so I checked for recalls but our VIN was not part of the recall (10e059000). My husband went to the dealership who sold me the car and he called Dodge customer service but apparently there was nothing that can be done. My car can not be repaired. In the past the car's front end had been repaired a number of times and it was due for an inspection this month.
Tl-the contact owns a 2000 Dodge Stratus. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, there was a loud grinding noise the the vehicle would failed to accelerate. The contact coasted to the side of the road and notice fluid coming from the passenger front wheel. The vehicle was take to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the lower control arm and ball join broke and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 197,000. Aw.
Was driving 25 mph driving on paramount blvd at whittier blvd, in pico rivera, CA, when the car made a loud clunking noise, then felt as though we were dragging something. Only drove 50 feet before pulling over, as it was impossible to drive. We thought it was initially a flat tire, until we got out. Our mechanic inspected it, and determined that the lower control arm had failed on the passenger side. It was clear from the picture that the ball joint was rusted and snapped free of its housing.

I was backing out of the driveway on his way to work and all of a sudden he couldn't steer. The right front tire just turned in sideways and wouldn't move with any movement of the steering wheel. We jacked up the car to see what happened and we saw the arm with the ball joint was completely detached from the socket. By the looks of it, the crack is near the retaining ring groove. We can manually move the tire as it is completely detached from the front suspension control arm. I was very upset with this and the fact I wasn't notified this was an issue. Not only could my life have been in danger but also my nephew who I let use the car and all of those other drivers on the roads everyday. An issue like this would for sure cause a fatality at a fast speed as I drive the interstate daily with my twin girls. This issue best be fixed and more notification is requested on any other issues pertaining to my car! if its not a recall, make it a recall! very dangerous!!!!!.
While I was driving the front driver side wheel broke off it was the control arm I have had it fixed. A couple of months after that incident I had the front passenger side tire also do the same. I got it fixed. Now my back driver side wheel is tilting in like it wants to break off. Since noticing this I have not driven it and has been stuck in my driveway 4 months until I can figure out a way to get it fixed without having to pay for something like this again.

I have been hearing a terrible noise everytime I turn my 2002 Dodge Stratus. Often times I can't even turn the steering wheel. I have to get my car inspected and I found out that I have to have my front lower control arm/ball joint replaced because it failed. I also found out that this item was recalled.
Upper control arm pulling away at ball joint both sides of car could cause loss of control if completly breaks.
The contact owns a 2003 Dodge Stratus. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, the front driver side wheel detached from the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the failure had occurred once before on the front passenger side. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the bolt joint was fractured. As a result, the lower control arm and cv axle needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.
Regarding our 2001 Dodge Stratus, lower control arm ball joint failure. Originally on October 25th of 2005 we had the left front control arm/ball joint assembly replaced because of severe squeaking during suspension movement. This was caused by lubrication failure. There is no way to re-lube this joint on this design. The assembly was replaced with the only available part at the time from Dodge. For the past couple of weeks I had noticed that during abrupt braking the vehicle would pull strongly to the left, then recover when the brakes were released. I had scheduled for inspection appointment on 11/10/2009. Then on11/2/2009 the same exact ball joint failure occurred to the left side when my 16 year old son was driving the vehicle. I had read the NHTSA campaign # 09e-056 regarding the qualis failure and wondered if it could be related somehow. Please advise.

I have had my car for a little over 3 years now. First it was the passenger side ball joint. Then a year later it was the ball joint on the driver side plus the control arm. Then it was the brakes and rotors. Then right after that I find out the ball joint I had just replaced on the passenger side needs replaced again! now my oil light comes on at idle after the engine has warmed up. Had the oil changed as always between 2000 and 3000 miles as I should. Had the oil sending unit replaced and still have a oil light on with a full engine of oil. Now my steering column just today made a cracking sound as I was backing up with the wheel turning to the left. Then the airbag light came on and wont go off. Now my steering is stiff. Talked to a mechanic and it is a safety issue.
I have had to replace control arms on my 2002 Dodge Stratus several times now. There is constant knocking under my car. I believe it is the same problem as all of the recalls that are with the Dodge products; however, no recall has been issued for the Dodge Stratus 2002.
Right rear axel broken, both rear ball joints broken and rear upper control arms broken on Dodge Stratus, 2001, with only 26,000 miles. Failure occurred while driving slowly. Both rear ball joints and upper control arms showed excessive play.
While driving to work a bolt broke on my upper control arm. My tire was on a 45 degree angle. Very dangerous. Took to place I bought car to get under extended warranty. Warranty place refused to fix I am fighting it. I paid out of my pocket.
While driving at 65 mph front right control arm broke and consumer lost control of vehicle.

Car had been taken in last year at van andel dealership in grand rapids michigan for recall work. The left front tire has had a knock or creek in it for about a year to year and a half. I had asked them about this when the car was being fixed for recall work. They told me there was nothing wrong with it. Yesterday my wife and children went to go to the store. They stopped at an intersection and proceeded to go when the car kept going straight instead of turning. There was no warning of a problem until this happened except for the creeking. K and m northfield dodoge of grand rapids called me today with the estimate of thecar. They told me the car has a broken tie rod. The car is only 4 years old with about 55000 miles on it. He said it was nmot uncommon due to the cab-0forward design puts too much stress on the tie rods. I am concerned someone could die in an accident. Should there be stronger tie rods put in these cars. Thank you please e-mail or call with any questions. I am very concerned about my family and others driving these vehicles when there is a sudden loss of steering and the wheel separated from the ball joint.
