I was hearing a clicking noise coming from both sides of my car in the front. I took the car to a mechanic and was informer that my lower and upper control arms were in need of replacement. The mechanic showed me the ball joints and lifted them up with a huge screwdriver. I was told by the mechanic that the tire could separate and cause a accident. I went to autozone and purchased the lower control arms and had them installed on the car. When I took the car to get the recommended alignment I was told that the upper control arms needed to be replaced as well. I had at the time about 169,000 miles on the vehicle. I have never received a recall letter from anyone about the problems with the suspension. Its very expensive to repair and very unsafe. I practically ruined a new set of tires because of this suspension problem and I am presently experiencing wear due to the upper control arm needing replacement.
The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Stratus. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle began to rattle and felt loose. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and noticed that the ball joint on the control arm assembly had failed which caused the ball stud to wear through the control arm housing which resulted in the noise. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The manufacturer had not yet been notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number:10e059000 (suspension). The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.

Car is making crunching sounds in rear. Brought into the dealership on route 38, lumberton NJ 08060 and was told it's the rear suspension/struts etc and would cost $1100. 00 to fix. My sister has the same car, same year and hers broke last year. I then looked online and saw there are so many complaints about this problem. The parts that were put onto car during assembly line were like plastic and they crumble and cause the whole rear to fall, cause accidents, cause tires to fly off the car and deaths. This should be a recall immediately. My mom is very angry. She paid for both cars and wont buy another american made car again unless they recall this issue. She called Dodge headquarters 800 number and spoke to [xxx] and he said there was nothing he could do. Please do something. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I drive a 2002 Dodge Stratus 4 door r/t and noticed a sound coming from the rear of car. I pulled over could not see anything and drove again. It still made a loud thump sound from the rear of car. Inspected car at home with proper tools, I found the rear strut mount on the left of car was broke in to 6 pieces. In sight of this I took the right rear strut mount off and found it to be broke into 2 piece with a 2 inch crack going across part of it. Ordered two new rear strut mounts to find out there has been a major part change. The old parts are aluminum and not painted and the revised parts are steel and are painted black. I called Dodge's compliant line and was hung up on. Please note that 4 door r/t suspensions are not the same as all other 4 door Stratus cars. Tires wore on the inner edges and the shocks were free to jump up and down since not attached to the car.

When driving over a bump, I noticed a noise from the rear of the car. I inspected the area and found that the bracket which secures the trailing arm link had disintegrated from rust. The trailing arm link was "floating" at the frame end. It serves to provide stability for the entire rear suspension. I replaced the brackets on both sides (left and right) as the other side was also near failure. The rest of the frame and undercarriage are nearly rust free. The failed and nearly failed parts are available.

Dodge Stratus 2001: severe squeaking during suspension movement: the car was having problems with squeaking noises during movement. Then while driving my daughters and their friends to the skating rink, I heard a loud pop, then grinding noise coming from under the car while making a left turn into the parking lot. I checked to see what was wrong and the left rear tire was bent outward and almost detatched from the car. I had it towed to the closest repair station and was told it was the ball and joint, and that both left and right ball and joints would have to be replaced at a cost of $1000. As a single parent I can not afford this. I would like to know about the national recall and if I am entitled to repair cost under the recall. Thank god we were not injured and that I was traveling less than 10 miles per hour during this failure.
