4 Steering problem of the 1999 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 01/10/2020

I bought a car in Jan 2020 which has been sitting a few/couple years and I found 3 recalls on it. 1999 Dodge Stratus 2. 4. I emailed u s customer care/ Dodge customer care and got mail back stating yes on 3 recalls and a dealer in reno nv to call. I called and service and parts dept said yes on recalls. Bring it in to check and advise to fix. Got mutil mails from customer care stating they had car under last owner and I told them I was new owner. Next mail was, claim/s are closed. I asked why now 3 times and no answer except a take survey. No service or repairs have been done on this car other then to find out there was 3 recalls and now customer care doesnt want to do anything to fix this car. I dont understand how one day there is and the next day claim closed. The only difference is I am a new owner. One recall is for a fix power steering hose so car wont catch fire. I am have got nowhere with all my tries to get car recalls fixed. According to web sites the 3 recalls are listed as incomplete still to date. Meaning not taken care of to my understanding.

6 Steering problem of the 2004 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

As I am turning the steering wheel when driving or idle the steering is making a squeaking/creaking noise I believe it has to do with recall: 10e059000 front control arm - lower arm.

7 Steering problem of the 2005 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 05/03/2018

Takata there are several things that I have seen as a recall on a Dodge Stratus and tried to report it and whomever I be talking to is in denial about that my car is showing me the signs that it's needs to be fixed because it's a malfunction my ball joint is bad because of the front right steering knuckle has messed it up and my gas gauge is messed up with the alarm and temp control is also messed up.

8 Steering problem of the 2004 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 09/05/2017

The ball joint on the lower control arm assembly separated causing the front passenger side wheel to turn to the right and preventing the driver from being able to steer the car. The vehicle was in motion driving in a straight line when it happened. This is similar to NHTSA recall #10e059000 and #09e056000. I think the control arm was the original factory part. I'll attach pictures with the part number.

9 Steering problem of the 2004 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 07/30/2017

Car has shut down while driving on highway and on city street. Sometimes the steering wheel will lock up and be hard to turn. Sometimes speedometer will stop working correctly. Car will shut down.

10 Steering problem of the 2006 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Hi! my son was driving my 2006 Dodge Stratus and the control arm broke and the axle separated on the passenger side causing it to hit a parked car. We have a police report that documents the axle separation and pictures are available. I noticed online that this had been a problem with the 2006 Dodge Stratus so I checked for recalls but our VIN was not part of the recall (10e059000). My husband went to the dealership who sold me the car and he called Dodge customer service but apparently there was nothing that can be done. My car can not be repaired. In the past the car's front end had been repaired a number of times and it was due for an inspection this month.

11 Steering problem of the 2004 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 05/29/2017

Lately when I drive my car the check engine light will come on and then a couple minutes after it comes on the steering will lock up. It has done this multiple times within the last couple of months. The first time I was able to get it started again but then the speedometer wouldn't work. After the first time I thought it was fixed but now whenever it malfunctions the car shuts off on its own and will not start again until its been sitting untouched for at least 10 minutes. This has happened in town (25 mph) and on roads up to 55 mphs.

12 Steering problem of the 2004 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 05/21/2017

Lower left front suspension arm ball joint broken. The outer bearing carrier, fell away from the suspension arm, pulling the half shaft out of the transmission, and the wheel/tire assembly jammed up in the wheel well with a complete loss of steering control. The vehicle was in motion just following a turn, in a parking area.

13 Steering problem of the 2005 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 02/06/2017

The vehicle was purchased in 2013 " as is" (used) f rom a car lot. There were at least 2 or 3 alignments completed due to repairs on related parts. After each alignment, the steering wheel would turn to an angled position after a few days or a week. When turning the steering wheel to the right or turning it to the right while backing up in reverse, a loud pop can be heard coming from the vehicle. The noise has always seemed to come from the left side of the car. Everything suggested as repairs has been done. Both ball joints were replaced. All front and back struts were replaced. Also there has been a problem with the suspension causing noise and bouncing while driving. All of this has happened on city streets, driving about 35 mph or much less. A mechanice suggested in 2013 that the car might have an electrical problem but almost everything has worked well for the past 4 years with no problems except for the windshield wiper speed which does not work on the regular back and forth and super fast speed. The wiper switch was replaced which didn't help. A Dodge dealership checked it last week and said that the wiper motor works. Only one of many auto repair places tried to charge me for an elec issue. Also in 2013, the first car repair shop I took it to did not detect any recalls and they listed a different VIN # which is:1b3el46r55m519597, on my paperwork. A dealership told me it was not valid when I contacted it for parts. A different VIN # is on the car title which is in my name. Could this car be part of a chop shop scam? I've had a problem trying to find parts that match the color and year especially for an inside door panel. Also I filed police reports because someone has entered the car repeatedly and illegally without forced entry and may have a key. The seller of the car was dishonest when the car was purchased.

14 Steering problem of the 2005 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

Was driving 25 mph driving on paramount blvd at whittier blvd, in pico rivera, CA, when the car made a loud clunking noise, then felt as though we were dragging something. Only drove 50 feet before pulling over, as it was impossible to drive. We thought it was initially a flat tire, until we got out. Our mechanic inspected it, and determined that the lower control arm had failed on the passenger side. It was clear from the picture that the ball joint was rusted and snapped free of its housing.

18 Steering problem of the 2005 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 08/05/2015

I was backing out of the driveway on his way to work and all of a sudden he couldn't steer. The right front tire just turned in sideways and wouldn't move with any movement of the steering wheel. We jacked up the car to see what happened and we saw the arm with the ball joint was completely detached from the socket. By the looks of it, the crack is near the retaining ring groove. We can manually move the tire as it is completely detached from the front suspension control arm. I was very upset with this and the fact I wasn't notified this was an issue. Not only could my life have been in danger but also my nephew who I let use the car and all of those other drivers on the roads everyday. An issue like this would for sure cause a fatality at a fast speed as I drive the interstate daily with my twin girls. This issue best be fixed and more notification is requested on any other issues pertaining to my car! if its not a recall, make it a recall! very dangerous!!!!!.

This car is a death trap. I have lost control of the steering many times it seems to be worse in any curve. I must drive it under the speed limit at least 5 miles to safely keep it on the road. I am terrified everyday in this car. When using the brakes the whole car shakes violently an does not stop well even at low speeds(brakes are new).

21 Steering problem of the 2001 Dodge Stratus

I have had this car for 2 years now with little problems. Had a few oil changes and some break work done to it. But in the last year I have changed all the calipers in this car 2 to 3 times the break pads many times the ball joints the roaders the swing arm and the cluster dash. This was a great car till it stopped going over 30 without a terrible shake.

23 Steering problem of the 1999 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

While I was parallel parking my passenger saw heavy white smoke after I turned my steering wheel sharply. My steering wheel locked also. My passenger and I got out of the car and called 911. I believe I turned the ignition off before getting out. The smoke started on the front passenger side and flames were seen under the front of the car. The fire department came and put out the fire. Everything under the hood was burned and the car was a total loss. Afterwards the car (interior and exterior) smelled like burnt power steering fluid. I filed a claim with my insurance company.

24 Steering problem of the 2001 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 02/17/2013

I was driving our 2001 Dodge Stratus to park at the movie theater , going only 5 mph maybe less and I went to turn into the parking spot, I heard a click in the steering wheel, a pop, the airbag light came on and the horn does not work at all and the airbag light is still on. 25 Steering problem of the 2003 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 06/11/2012

While driving my 2003 Dodge Stratus, I was in the process of turning and I heard a kind of snap and then I felt and heard a grinding in my steering wheel. For about a week whenever I had to make a turn there was this noise list a spring was caught and almost would get caught and I would have to quickly jerk the steering wheel so it wouldn't get stuck and keep me from turning. My airbag light came on and stays on, so it won,t deploy in an accident, my horn doesn't work, and I lost function of my speed control. I was told this is my clockspring. This faulty clockspring was recalled in many Dodge vehicles but has yet to be recalled in my vehicle. See safety recall no. B24 (11/01/2002) for 1998 Dodge vehicles but Dodge continued to use these faulty clocksprings that in fact should have a lifetime warranty.

26 Steering problem of the 2000 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 04/19/2012

My Dodge Stratus started blowing horn without me touching. Everytime I turn the wheel the horn blows. Then two days later the light came in the car would not go off. Then locks start going up and down and door make beep as if a door his open. I had to remove the fuses to stop horn from blowing, cut inside lights off and stop locks from going up and down. The car still makes beep noise as if door open whole time driving and stops and start back when I hit a bump. My front wheel making a noise as if the wheel is going to break off on the passenger side. It is also drinking gas as if it is leaking. I dont see any gas on the ground but I can smell fumes off and one and sometimes under the hood. It is like I am losing gas pressure because car stalls and I am losing gas somewhere.

After driving my car a friend went outside and seen smoke comming out from under the hood. She called me and I ran to the car and I seen fire under the front wheel's. Friends sprayed water on the hood and I opened it up a little and they sprayed the fire and put it out. By this time the top of the motor was burnt bad. Everything on top needs to be replaced, it was caused by the high presure hose on the powersreering. I found out that it had a recall on the hose so I called Dodge corp. And they gave me a case # and to take it to my dealer so I did. Then the corp. Office called me today and said it's been to long this should have been done by the last oner and hung up. I bought this car oct. 14 of this year and this happend on the 31. How am I to know that this was going to happen in 18 day's. I payed a lot of money for this car and I think. The computer can tell you the recall and how to get it fixed; but you try to find somewhere on here on what to do when there is a recall and it done what it said it would do and you didn't know about it until it did it. I need help I don't have the money to fix it. I took out a loan to get it.

32 Steering problem of the 2001 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 11/03/2009

2001 Dodge Stratus. Loss of control. Resulting in 2 separate crashes. I did sustain injury in the last incident. I was trying to turn left into a parking lot, wheel turned only partially. I could not get it to move the correct direction, and I ran into a tall (15in. ) curb. Sustained whiplash and a large knot on my head. The 1st incident was while trying to turn left and my car would not go that way. I ended up hitting yet another tall curb, due to loss of control. It may be worthy to note I have replaced the lower control arm on the drivers side, but am still getting periods of having a hard time turning my wheel. This occurs whether in motion or just starting my car and turning the wheel to leave . I also had to replace right side due to failure of the wheel to turn right as well. I actually was going about 30mph and barely made my turn, almost broadsiding a sitting vehicle. When I checked it, my tire was "bent inward' at the top. The whole tire was, well, like this, / (but actually bent the other way, inward. My steering wheel works randomly. Please advise, as this is my only mode of transportation. I don't know what else to have fixed on it! I've already dipped almost $2000 "fixing" it. Thank you. The incident date below is just the latest. The one where I hit my head. As of today, my steering has a mind of its own.
