1 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2000 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 11/29/2005

Driving at 35 mph and stopping at a light a loud noise (clunk) was heard from the transmission area. "check engine" light eliminated. Returned to residence and vehicle would not shift out of first gear. Vehicle towed to dealer. Dealer informed me that one of the speed sensors had failed. Dealer recommended that both input and output speed sensors be replaced, drop transmission pan for inspection, and perform transmission flush. Authorized the repair. Contacted Chrysler corp to inquire about power train warranty. Was advised that the speed sensor was not part of the power train and the vehicle only had a 3yr/36,000 warranty on the power train. Believe this is incorrect due to warranty book received with vehicle indicates that the power train module is 7yr/70,000. Investigating further. Believe that this sensor should be covered by the power train since it provides control to that component.

2 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 1997 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

Have contacted Dodge/daimler-Chrysler several times about transmission on my 1997 Dodge Stratus going out. Hesitation on shifting into gear, slipping out of gear and back in on turns, trans leaks, slipping into gear suddenly and jerking the car, and so on. Car has only 66,000 miles on it now and I got it in 2001 when my father passed away. It had only 53,000 miles on it then. A trans shouldn't be going out at 50-60,000 miles. If Dodge has a bad product they should correct it themselves. I shouldn't have to pay to repair a problem Dodge already knows about and isn't doing anything about. I never haul or pull anything and I only put 13,000 miles on it in five years. Not heavy driving. I should not have any problems at all and Dodge refused to do anything or pay for repair- just saying "it's past warranty". I cannot afford to repair but I should have a vehicle company that is proud of it's product enough to stand behind it. I only get $867 a month retirement and I'm 60 years of age. Daimler-Chrysler should have made repairs when I first contacted them a year ago. This is a daily problem and getting worse. Hundreds of failures. I have to use the car for pet care so just continue to putt along until it (the trans) goes out completely.

3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 1997 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

Automatic transmission would intermittently shift out of drive into neutral while driving 40 mph or more. Consumer was concerned that the vehicle may be involved in a rear end collision because of this condition. Dealer was not notified.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 1999 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 07/31/2001

Five incidences where the car will not shift out of 2nd gear. This happens when the car is placed in drive. It lunges forward because it is already in 2nd gear. Will not shift into 1st or 3rd gear from there. Auto stick is stuck in 2nd also. This causes the "check engine" light to be displayed. Three different dealers replaced shifting sensors, soleonoids in transmission, replaced seals. After last repair, car made it one block before problem arose again, and this time the speedometer did not move from 0. The car was obviously not test driven before we were called to pick it up. This problem has cost me lost wages with no way to get to work.

5 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2000 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 07/15/2001

We have experienced problems with the transmission slipping out of gear, extremely hard down shift from 3 to 2, hunting for gears & hard shifting in general. Vehicle has been in 5 times for repair attempt. At last attemp we were told that the manufacturer is aware of the problem, does not know how to rememdy and to keep driving the vehicle. Additionally, we had to have the rotors replaced at 14,000 miles and are experiencing intermitent grinding as well as loud squealing from the back brakes daily. We have also had trouble with the power steering, hard starting in cold weather and a grinding noise when starting the vehicle.

8 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 1997 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 10/25/1999

The transmission has failed 3 times in my Dodge Stratus, wont shift out of 2nd gear,it was towed to the dealer 3 times they said they fixed it the first 2 times but it was not fixed properly. It is currently at the dealer again for the same problem. I have talked to 3 other people that have had the same problem with the transmissions in their Chrysler vehicles however, Chrysler corp main office denies any problem with transmission. . . Not that I thought they would say so. But someone at the service department of my dealer admits that chrsyler knows of the problem but will not go public.
