2005 Ford Crown Victoria police interceptor with 47,410 miles began having rear axle noise. Upon service in our shop it was determined that the rear axle bearings had failed and worn into the axle shaft. Contacted the local dealer and they advised they were unaware of this issue and there was no warranty left. We then started checking the other 10, 2005 Crown Victorias for this issue. So far out of the entire 11 cars we have checked 6 and they all are showing the same problem. It appears that when these cars get between 45,000 to 50,000 miles it shows the wear as described above. Ford customer service was contacted and they didn't offer but $100 assistance, just the parts is over $450 excluding labor. The local dealer said it would be around $750 to repair in their shop. To me this is a safety issue especially with it being a police car that's affected.
