Steering Gear Box Problems of Ford E-350

Owner was driving at approximately 20 mph and the steering wheel locked and the vehicle kept going straight and the steering wheel would spin but it would not alter the direction. Owner says that the steering box was effected. Provide further details.

The vehicle was going 20mph down a dirt road. The van hit a bump and loss control causing the vehicle to run off the road and hit a tree. The manufacturer was notified but the vehicle is being repaired by a collision shop. Consumer sustained eye injuries, passenger received injuries to neck and stomach, also having headaches. Loss of steering also came about in accident. Vehicle is gas powered, not diesel!!!.

To much end play in steering box out put shaft. Dealership (gorno Ford) has seen vehicle twice. In August 1999 and today 12/3/99 and tells me there is no problem. But yet I can feel the loosness in the steering wheel when manuvering in parking lots and/or driving down the freeway.

The steering gear box has a loose spot in it. While on the road if a bump or hole is hit the vehicle will jerk out of control and wander. The steering gear box has been replaced three times and problem still exist. Dealer has been contacted and claims they can do nothing more for it. Vehicl was delivered from the factory with this defect.
