4 Steering problem of the 2022 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 07/26/2024

Received a notice on a "customer satisfaction program 24n03" instead of issuing a recall for the hydroboost power steering pressure and jumper lines they instead extended the warranty. People have had their braking and power steering go out while driving and this is simply unsafe and unacceptable. They need to replace their faulty "quick connector" to a hard connector before people are injured. My dealership refuses to do this as it is not a recall. Thank you for your consideration.

5 Steering problem of the 2021 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 07/17/2024

After hitting a very rough patch of interstate, our steering became very difficult. The driver thought that maybe we had a low tire, so looked for a place to pull over. We crested a hill, and there was an exit with a truck stop. As we attempted to slow for the exit, the driver discovered we had no brakes or power steering. Driver used the brakes on the trailer we were towing to slow us and bring us to a stop. Checked the brake fluid reservoir. It was empty. Bought more, but as soon as the pedal was pushed, it was gone. We were towed to a repair shop, and they discovered the high pressure line on the hydroboost brake system had separated. The repair shop was able to find a replacement from Ford motor CO. , and repaired our motorhome. We had this exact component inspected 2 years ago when Ford issued an inspection report. We passed. This incident happened 2500 miles from home. When we arrived home, there was a letter from Ford (24n03) stating they were extending the "warranty" period on the high pressure line.

8 Steering problem of the 2022 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 10/09/2022

During early morning hours (approx. 2 am) of 10/09/22, while traveling westbound on I-70 through utah at posted speed (80 mph) I hit a series of road repairs (patches) while in the right-hand lane, with the driver-side (left) front wheel. The front end of the vehicle shook violently, leaving limited control of steering which resulted in the vehicle drifting quickly into the passing (left hand) lane. Fortunately, no one was in the passing lane and control was regained, but only after rapid deceleration through hard braking. The incident was freighting to say the very least, and has resulted in driver distress when traveling over bridges with expansion joints, experiencing changes to road surfaces, and/or anticipating poor road surfaces. Driver anxiety is a direct result of this incident. The vehicle is a new Ford f-350 diesel 4wd with fewer than 2000 total miles at the time the incident took place. An internet search suggests a probable cause associated with a “death wobble”? but on a brand new vehicle? makes no sense and is very concerning as apparently Ford has been aware of this problem for years? Ford customer service department was contacted (10/10/22) via phone, and a case number (cas39020584) provided. The Ford dealership through which the vehicle was purchased (keller Ford in hanford, CA) was contacted per the recommendation of the Ford customer service representative and the vehicle is scheduled to be left with the keller Ford service department on 10/12/22. Why isn’t Ford required to notify owners of this phenomenon so that at a minimum operators are aware of the potential problem and are at least prepared for its occurance? I have owned many Ford vehicles in the 45+ years I have driven, starting with a 1956 Ford f-100 I purchased in 1978. I general, I am happy with Ford products. But in this instance (my first purchase of a new vehicle) I am not. This problem needs to be fixed immediately!.

9 Steering problem of the 2022 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 09/06/2022

The contact owns a 2022 Ford E-350. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the steering wheel became stiff and the vehicle would pull in either direction. Additionally, and there was an abnormal odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. The contact then noticed that the brake pedal had to be pressed very hard in order to stop the vehicle. After stopping to inspect under the hood, the contact discovered a power steering fluid leak in the engine compartment. The vehicle was driven to the local dealer who diagnosed that the power steering pressure line had detached. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The contact indicated that the vehicle was previously repaired under the NHTSA campaign number: 22v089000 (steering, service brakes, hydraulic). The failure mileage was 6,300.

10 Steering problem of the 2021 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 06/20/2022

The contact owns a 2021 Ford E-350. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the power steering and brakes became inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed with loosened brake line fittings and an unknown fluid leak. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 22v013000 (fuel system, diesel). The manufacturer was contacted but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 13,667.

The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.

14 Steering problem of the 2022 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 11/20/2021

Without warning my brakes and steering failed on a freedom elite RV on a Ford motor chassis. The vehicle only had 2396 miles on it at the time of occurrence. It turned out to be a pressure hose that broke. Luckily I was in a residential neighborhood with no traffic and driving very slowly when it happened. I shudder to think what would have happened on a hill or in traffic.

18 Steering problem of the 1999 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 10/07/2019

I recently purchased a used 24 1999 winnebago itasca spirit with very low mileage and at that time I noticed a shaking or vibration problem possibly coming from the tires. I owned a motor home in the past and have some experience. This motor home sat for several years so I attributed the shaking to the memory in the rubber of flat spots on the bottom from sitting for a long time that usually smooth out when driven especially after 30 or 40 miles on a warm day, but after a 400 mile trip it didn't smooth out, in fact it seems to have worsened. Before purchasing it from a private party I ran an instavin and carfax report and only discovered an uncompleted NHTSA recall #05s28 on the speed control only. I then searched several forums and discovered many, many reports of the same problem with the shaking and learned it is due to faulty wheels and Ford is not making good the problem but offered an expensive fix that I understand is also iffy. I am very concerned about my family's safety driving on these defective wheels and first looked into replacing the tires which I learned isn't the problem but the faulty wheels that were an oem Ford part, so I want to add my complaint to the many you already have and maybe Ford will fix this potentially serious safety problem.

20 Steering problem of the 2017 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 03/27/2019

When driving on highway and go over a bump in road the truck goes into a death wobble and you need to immediately hit the brakes and slow down to almost a complete stop to get the truck back under control. Very life threatening. This is the second time I have had to take back to dealer for same reason. The last time this happened it almost threw me in the ditch. This is a very serious situation and there should absolutely be a recall done before someone gets killed when this happens.

21 Steering problem of the 2017 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 03/15/2019

Experienced the infamous Ford "death wobble" after hitting a road dip at 65mph while travelling to FL. I was pulling our 5th wheel camper. I re-experienced it again 15 times during the same trip!!! front end shakes uncontrollably until you slow down below 40, which is a hazard on a freeway! occurred several times around 45-50 mph, too. Please have Ford issue a recall!!! I am not the only owner experiencing this problem and it is a hazard to drive and have it occur.

22 Steering problem of the 2019 Ford E-350

23 Steering problem of the 2017 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 09/23/2018

While driving on interstate at the speed of 75 mph went over a small bump on road that had been repaired and my truck went into a severe front end shake and wobble that I just about went into the ditch. (scared to death) slowed down to 10 mph and it stopped so I slowly regained speed only to find that the next little bump I went over it done it again. I am hear to say that if I had been pulling my living quarters horse trailer I am sure the outcome would have been different. So I see others have had this same issue so what is taking the Ford motor company so long in doing a recall to fix this death trap that we are driving on public highways? I am hear to say that if something would of happened to me or my husband you would be hearing from my lawyer. Lets get the problem fixed before someone is killed if they haven't been already. This is the fourth time in three months that this has happened to me. The date listed below is the last time this happened while on interstate.

24 Steering problem of the 2011 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 09/09/2016

All three bolts on the steering compartment went out and lost control of my pickup truck. I was leaving from my driveway when this happened driving 2 mph per hour. An hour prior to this my daughter drove this vehicle on a highway and I am glad nothing had happened to her, thank god. I called inter-mountain towing company in slc, ut and they took it to Ford performance dealership. They replaced it and I asked for old bolts so I can send them to you, but they said these are inside my pick up truck. We checked and there were none. I also have photo of those if you need it. I purchased this vehicle from Ford performance in bountiful, ut February of 2016.

25 Steering problem of the 2014 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 09/24/2015

I recently rented an RV from cruise America. I do not have the VIN but for id it was their unit 254869. It was built for cruise America by four winds on a Ford e350 chassis. Almost immediately I found I could not drive it at posted speed limits. I felt unsafe at any speed over 60 mph and less depending on weather and pavement conditions. The posted limits were 65-80 in CO, wy, mt, and sd. The vehicle was light in the front end and nothing we loaded caused that. Every gust of wind, every bump in the pavement, and every truck blast pushed it off line. On one occasion, a truck blast pushed me onto the shoulder and before I could correct it, a snow pole broke the passenger side mirror. I reported this to cruise America when we returned the vehicle, and again by email. They don't seem to be concerned that this vehicle and others in their fleet like it may be unsafe to operate at posted speed limits. I am attaching two . Jpgs. One is of that specific vehicle and clearly shows that it rides higher on the front wheels. The other is of the approximate location on us-191 between rock springs and jackson wy where the truck blast pushed me onto the narrow shoulder. I consider that vehicle, and possibly others built to the same specifications, to be unsafe to operate at highway speeds. Can you do something about this? if this is not within your jurisdiction, would you please advise me of the proper agency to submit this to or pass it on? thank you.

26 Steering problem of the 2013 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

Both front steer tires showing severe positive camber, causing a severe safety issue to steer the passenger vehicle (shuttle bus) and excessive tire wear for a low number of miles. Front wheel alignment was performed with shims installed to correct the severe positve camber condition. Ford absolved itself to pay for the work under their warranty program, pointing the finger at their partner/vendor starcraft who installs the shuttle bus chassis in terms of the engineering design of this problem. Complained to the president's executive office of Ford for resolution after a poor satisfactory response to the issue from their commercial vehicle customer service unit. From the executive office of Ford, "we stand behind the decision of our customer service commercial unit and dealer diehl Ford of bellingham, wa. " very unsafe situation, and very clearly a Ford engineering issue. Ford engineering provides the specs for chassis usage to their vendor starcraft. Ford sells the shuttle bus vehicles directly to the consumer, assuming all liability.

27 Steering problem of the 2013 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

I recently purchased this brand new Ford e350 van. If you take your hands off the wheel for a second the vehicle drifts into the right lane. Also while braking you if you do not hold the wheel in the straight position the vehicle veers and drifts to the right. In a panic stop it is very dangerous and is a safety hazard. Also when you are braking you actually can feel the vehicle drifting, veering and pulling to the right when you are holding the steering wheel. What brought this to my attention was a panic stop that almost caused me to crash into a guard rail. Another issue is the transmission feels as though it is slipping, Ford also says this is normal when a vehicles transmission gets hot. I am afraid of all these things with the steering, braking and the transmission. My fear is a crash due to the steering and braking as well as going to accelerate and the transmission slipping creating a collision. Ford denies that there is anything wrong and says it is totally normal that all vehicles do that. I have brought this vehicle with these issues back to the dealer numerous and they say they have made adjustments and things are only getting worse. My first incident was on the way home from the dealer that the vehicle seemed to be all over the road. I have requested a Ford field engineer come out and go for a ride with me so they can see exactly what is happening, and I was told that Ford motor CO will not approve an engineering visit, that this is totally normal. My parents have the exact the vehicle, make, model and series and that vehicle stays completely straight at all times.

29 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

I was driving on i215 in salt lake city utah at 65mph when I hit a small bump in the road and the front end of the truck began shaking violently and I could not regain control before it ran me off the road into a ditch narrowly missing a concrete barrier and another vehicle. There was no impact, however I am not sure how I kept it from rolling the truck. This has happened to me in three other Ford trucks ranging from 2006 to 2008 that I used to drive at work. And now my personal 2008 f350. I hear that they call it the death wobble. I want to know why there is no recall for this.

30 Steering problem of the 2012 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

The contact owns a 2013 Ford E-350 (n/a). The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle would drift to the right independently. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer, who stated that the vehicle needed more weight. The dealer added bins to the vehicle but that did not remedy the drifting issue. The contact did not take the vehicle back to the dealer. The dealer stated that the drifting was normal for the vehicle. The failure mileage was 3,000. The VIN was not available. Kmj.

31 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 10/05/2012

I was have problems with the front end of my vehicle, I brought the vehicle to my mechanic to investigate the problems. He inspected the control arms, ball joints and rebalanced the tires. He basically didn't do anything to change the problem. The following day I was driving the van to work and noticed the front end getting worse. I then called into the shop to make another appointment. When I was driving to the mechanic the van steering went and the van became uncontrollable, since I was only a few miles away I managed to get it to the shop. After further investigation by the mechanic he told me that the steering box was bad and indicated it was very unusual for a 2008 with only 60,000 miles. I told him to fix the vehicle and when he went to the parts dealer to pick up a new steering box they indicated they are selling allot of these over the past couple of years. When he remove the steering box from our vehicle for further investigation he noticed that the failure was a fractured mechanical part. Which means it was a catastrophic failure, usually a steer box will get loose due to wearing components and eventually fail. . . This broke!!! he asked me to check will Ford to see if this steering box in 2008 e350 vans is a recall item, which it wasn't. He told me if this failure was at highway speeds it would have resulted in an accident and may have been fatality. I looked for recall information and found nothing, I'm now reaching out via the NHTSA to highlight this issue in hopes that they can alert people and bring it to the attention of the manufacturer. I also wouldn't mind some pay back for the $1,200 bill I received from our mechanic.

32 Steering problem of the 2011 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 08/03/2012

Ambulance on response to emergency call. Steering wheel "let go" causing driver to lose all control. Steering wheel could be spun completely 360 degrees very fast. We have video of the crash and steering wheel. Want to make sure this is not a vehicle defect in ambulances of this type. Could have been a catastrophic event.

33 Steering problem of the 2006 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 05/13/2012

This vehicle is the chassis for a 2006 pleasure way industries excel ts model class b van conversion. The maintenance of this van has been excellent with records to prove such. Since our purchasing this vehicle in may of 2012, when it is driven at highway speeds higher than 50 mph, the steering becomes "loose" and the front end weaves back and forth. The steering also pulls to the right even with proper alignment. Twice the driver nearly lost control due to the unresponsive steering. The rear end is too heavy for the weight it must bear thus causing a "wheely" effect on the extremely light front end. This causes the rear end to basically drive the vehicle. This seems to be a design issue with the Ford e350 super duty van. There have been numerous complaints made to pleasure way regarding the model years from 2004 through 2011 and yet they continue to produce this product. We have had to make major additions to the original Ford suspension to make this vehicle marginally safer to drive. These include rear wheel spacers, rear sway bar, heavier shocks, new harder sidewall tires, alignment cams, steering dragline, roadmaster active suspension kit. We have documentation from many other owners of this same vehicle who are experiencing this same problem and are "scared to death" to drive these vans on public highways.

Driving about 30 miles per hour began to change into left lane to go around car as light was turning green. Heard a loud sound thinking my tire blew. Suddenly steering went out of van. Could not control vehicle as steering wheel was in 360 degree motion. Hit brakes to stop unfortunately rear ended a lady. She was taken to hospital. Witness also heard this loud sound thinking it was a tire problem. This is a 2006 e 350 Ford cargo van.

35 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 06/10/2011

The steering on this van is very "loose" causing it to wander and require constant correction at all speeds. At normal highway speeds, hitting any bumps causes the back of the vehicle to skip or shift requiring significant steering correction and causing the vehicle to be very unstable. Mechanical inspection reveals no failure with any parts. (shame on Ford for this vehicle).
