36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2017

Car will jerk, slip, beat and bang. Stopped pulling at a red light. Got towed home . Took off battery cable for 30mins . Started working again for awhile. Does this often, repair shops have no clue except for new tranny. It will also try to pull forward while in park when you have the other problems also. It has done this while sitting still and while running 70 on the interstate.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

Driving and out of no where, receive an error message that says "odo data error", the car holds the current speed but it's very apparent that something is off as the car is now making a humming/air pressure sound (speedometer & tachometer stops working at various speeds) when this happens the wrench, airbag, abs, stability control indicator and engine light illuminate. Within 5 minutes new error appears (tire pressure monitor fault). Once you have pressed the brakes and come to a complete stop the car is extremely hesitant to accelerate even with the gas pedal pushed completely to the floor it doesn't gain power until it has rolled about 15-20 feet and at that point there is a extremely loud bang which makes you think the entire underbelly of the car has fallen out. At that point it regains speed again, but if you stop it does the same thing all over. Switching gears result in a loud bang and jerking action of the car with little to no acceleration power. Temporary remedy is to pull over turn car off wait a minute or two then restart the car. At that point when switching gears the bang and jerk happen again with the car slow to accelerate for a few seconds then it takes off like a race horse. Sometimes this remedies it while other times the same process is repeated multiple times within one trip. This has occurred on city streets and major expressways at speeds of 35 mph to 60 mph. First started experiencing the issue at about 170k miles and has been going on for over a year with no solutions from mechanics. If a mechanic with equipment/computers can't remedy a repair and seeing how there are numerous complaints of the same issue Ford should issue a recall to repair any components that could trigger the issue. This is pure negligence seeing that there are so many complaints. My opinion is it has something to do with the transmission and computer system.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2017

When theying to accept on a city street the car would not go. Odo error came up. Speedometer wouldn't move at all. Car was turned off and restarted. Wrench light and check engine light came on. Car moves a little bit but did not run normal and clunked hard when put in park. Mechanic says it's a sensor issue that's common in this car.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2017

While driving ,in full motion, , the car comes to an almost stop! scares you to death, you check to make sure you haven't accidently put the car in neutral , all the warning lights on the dash light up ,the check engine, the low tire gage symbol, the tool light,, the speedometer stops working, . The car refuse to move forward, placed in reverse it moves backward ,the Ford dealer is unable to fix the problem ,codes don't show up to help identify the problem. The danger is it happens while you are driving. Its been diagnosed as a transmission problem (very expensive) but that's not what it is. You reprogram it temporary, by taking the positive battery cable loose for a few seconds, the car drives perfect until it happens again, its happen three times with this car, I have called the Ford cooperate office to report this problem.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2017

Made a turn off interstate into a busy road, my vehicle jerked and lost its ability to accelerate. Leaving me in a very dangerous situation with cars flying around me to avoid hitting me. I managed to make it into a parking lot. I had a friend check the vehicle and with the hood up he had me put in reverse and it looked like the motor was going to jump out of the vehicle, same happened in drive. He put his computer on and a code for the drive speed sensor was present. The code was cleared and then noticed the speed and rpm gauges were inaccurate. This happens on occasion. Upon research I see this sensor has a recall on it but not for my year 08 Edge. Please recall ASAP. This can cause some seriously bad accident when your vehicle looses its ability to accelerate when in traffic. I fear this will happen and my life is in the line. Ford is aware there is a apparent problem noted by other year make model recalls. Note: this is the original complaint. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Today the same has happened again, I was greeted by horns blowing and aggressive drivers but was unable to do anything but coast to the next intersection to turn off. Nhtsa pleasw do something if possible. This output drive speed sensor is going to get someone killed soon. There are numerous complaints throughout this feed under scattered categories mainly because most do not know what the problem is and dealers cant figure out if the vehicle doesn't throw up a code. I had mine checked when the warning light was on so I would know the issue. Unfortunately the dealer couldn't help because we cleared the code. I checked into geeting this fixed but according to the dealer the part is unavailable, and the labor would be absurd if they had to replace. Please help!.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2017

Bought car used July 2017 from a dealer. Has problems starting a few weeks after purchase of not wanting to move. If in heavy traffic doing 5-10 mph on expressway, when traffic finally breaks car will not move, rpm's go up but transmission is still stuck. This is a safety issue that really needs to be addressed as I am seeing a lot of complaints for the same thing. Took my car into the dealer due to extended warranty. They were able to replicate what I told them. This is an internal part failure but I am still waiting to hear if my extended warranty will be paying for this. Unacceptable that so many have this serious issue which could cause an accident if car does not move on a busy highway or at a stop light. This has happened in heavy stop/go traffic, from a stop light when light changes to green. Unless you can find a way to pull off and turn the car off and back on it will not move.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2017

When you step on the gas there is no power. When this happened the air bag light came on and the speedometer. Wouldn't work the tack reved up the low tire pressure light came on and the little wrench light came on. The car would not go. Now it's going to cost around $3000. 00 to fix is what I was told and the car only has 90,000 miles on it. I see a lot of people are having the same issue. Ford should issue a recall for these transmissions. Before someone gets injured. I was driving down the road when I lost power good thing I could pull over safely.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2017

Wrench light comes on,low air tire light, air bag light on,speedometer quits and no power and hard clunking in the transmission. Just bought this, owe $11,000. On this car that is very dangerous to drive, what just Ford? drive until we get killed!.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2017

Two weeks ago I was driving on NJ rout 9 when the transmission sounded like it was in neutral but it wasn't. All the warning lights were on and was able to drive to a safe area and stop. I did not turn the car off and exited the car and tried to open the rear doors and hatch but couldn't. Next I turned the car off and waited a few minutes before starting it. When it started, all was fine. The next morning I drove it to a transmission shop without incident. There was only 62,000 miles on it at the time but the warranty expired because it was more than seven years. The oss was replaced at a cost of 750. 00. This is not the firs major issue with this vehicle. Less than one year ago two coils faulted causing a back feed of too much voltage to the computer causing it to fry. A cost of more than 3,000. 00 to repair.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2017

Transmission recalls.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2017

Vehicle on the highway feels like im constantly being rear ended upon pressing the gas pedal and accelerating at higher speeds/gear. Had a hard thumping bang into gear like the transmission bangs into gear. Shifts fine on normal roads but only notice on the highway especially in trafiic with stop go shifting. Very scary to drive and after it happens it feels like it has no power accelerating. Mechanic cant diagnose due to not having any code stored. Seems like many Edge owners experience this same issue and cant seem to fix this. Hopefully Ford has this recall addressed very soon. The only reason why I bought this vehichle was safety and it seems every recall isnt living up to that standard.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2017

I was driving on the highway and suddenly my speed gauge stoped working. So I pulled off the side of the road and shut it off. Turned it back on and put it back into drive it jerked hard and wouldn't move until I floored it then it moved slowly this has happened more than once seems dangerous.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2017

Wrench light, dashes on odometer, speedometer on zero, airbag light on. Loses the ability to accelerate properly. It has happened 6 times this month, usually on the highway after I've had to slow down with traffic and try to accelerate again. Get to the side of the road or a parking lot and shut the car off. Restart it all warning lights are gone but still will not accelerate. Shift in and out of reverse and drive with very loud knocking and jerking. Move car back and forth. Restart and repeat multiple times before it resets itself. It never happens by somewhere that can scan it to get a code. As the wrench light goes off and stays off after you restart the car no one can tell me what's wrong. It is extremely frustrating. I am quickly losing faith in Ford and their regards for customers safety. Good thing I don't live where there are mountains because if I did I am sure I would have been in an accident by now. It has happened twice this week. 5 times were highway 1 was on a busy 4 lane road. It has jerked when shifting around 45 mph for about 3 years now.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the vehicle jerked as it slowed down. The contact stated that the vehicle was downshifting roughly. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2016

My vehicle's transmission acts likes it's slipping or in neutral when it's not. Jerks when it shifts gears. Loses power when I try to accelerate. I did some research there are hundreds of complaints about the transmissions in the Ford Edge's. I started having issues several weeks ago back in October 2016. Why should all the owners of these defective transmission have to pay for this to be fixed. That's not right! we gave Ford our hard earned money just to get a defective vehicle. Talked to Ford today and they don't care. Not going to do anything they stated. Today I was at a 4 way stop in a school zone and when I wanted to take off it acted like it was in neutral. I got to where I could pull over and sat there a few minutes and was able to drive it the other mile home. It clunks when changing gears and jerks. It is a intermittent problem as it doesn't happen everyday.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2016

The vehicle was in motion stopped at a stop light then proceeded to drive off or accelerate unable to move. Gave more gas no acceleration able to pull over to the side shoulder noticed the tool bar on dash. Turned the car off and waited 5 minutes then started the car and put into drive a loud thud was heard then the tool bar went away was able to accelerate drive the vehicle to dealer. During the drive car didn't respond well to acceleration but rpms increased but car didn't increase in speed. All of this occurred on a city street without turns.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2016

Driving at i275 to st petersburg, at 60mph the car made a loud noise from the engine and reduced gears abruptly, it felt like a hard braking from the engine, very hard. The rpm went skyrocket, the car lost power and wouldn't go over 45mph or it would do the same again. It looked like it was on a very low gear, as it was at 40mph doing almost 4000rpm. . . I stopped at a gas station, turned it of and let it sit for about 20 minutes. When I tried to go back rome, after 2 miles it did the same, it lost power. I drove back to the gas station and had it towed home.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2016

My vehicle Ford Edge model 2008, lost control as well as speed when the wrench light came to the dashboard, immediately after the airbag light lit up, I had little or no engine power to engage gear to keep up with traffic speed. My speed dropped to 40 miles or less per hour. Very dangerous situation because at that moment the odometer lighting also went off. Driving on a highway at night no one drives below 40 miles per hour, made the situation pretty grave and dangerous. The problem comes from the power train faulty sensors near the transmission need to be replaced costing over $800,00, as for the airbag I haven't received a invoice yet.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2016

For no particular reason my Edge decelerates to ten miles an hour while the tach reads 3rpms it has happened on all types of roads and in traffic also. The tranny fluid is always fine. No codes on dash either. I have my gas pedal to the floor and it will only creep at 10 mph. When it reengages it is a large hard jerk forward. One evening as I pulled into my own driveway it wouldn't move forward at all I shut it off waited restarted it and it was like nothing happened. It does studder a bit going uphill almost like it doesn't want to go then it does. For a while I thought it was things like bad gas dirt in a fuel line low fluids but it isn't this 2008s need a recall as many other Edge owners have the same issues. I have made an appt for the car at the dealer and I am not convinced they know the answer either. I received the recall for the gas tank , but I want one for this as I and many other Ford Edge owners have the same scary power train issues reported to you NHTSA please help us . I want a recall free repairs or a trade in with out being taken advantage of because of this problem thank you saylorsburg pennsylvania.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2016

First I was driving when my breaks started to feel like they were locking up. Come to find out it was the power break booster which cost me $504. 00. Then 2 weeks later my car starts to do a putting feeling and come to find out 2 of the coils burnt up the power control module costing me $1058. 00. A few months before this it was in the Ford dealership because of a leak on the fuel pump. Costing me $216. I am furious I have had to spend this in the last month. I just seen on the news that Ford has a recall on the power control module but it was not my year. I am simply asking if someone would please look into this so maybe I can get some of this money back to pay off the debt it caused me.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

My radio has a short in the hardware. Factory installed radio and it will turn off and turn back on repetitively some days, not allowing me to utilize sync. Transmission has started kicking intermittently for the past month. While driving and slowing down.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2016

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 70 mph, the instrument panel illuminated and the speedometer fluctuated down to zero. The contact maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road and restarted it after ten minutes. The contact stated that an abnormal sound emitted from the transmission area after the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was shifted into the drive position and operated normally. The failure recurred several times in the past year. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2016

My child and I were driving down a busy interstate, 1100 miles from home. The vehicle was set on cruise control at 70 mph. Without warning, the car jerked. We had items that fell into the floorboard. I looked at my gauges and noticed the cars speedometer had gone to zero. The car began to coast even though the cruise control was still on. There was a lot of traffic on the interstate coming behind us. As I pushed the gas petal, the car would not go. I stopped the vehicle and called a Ford dealer and they had it towed. The next day we were told that it was a "catastrophic internal failure in the transmission" also, that it blew out sensors ect. . I have written Ford motor company regarding this issue and they state that there are no warranties or field service actions being taken and they urged me to contact with the Ford dealer servicing the vehicle with any discount or issues. The Ford Edge has less than 100,000 miles, and I know I am not the only one this has happened to. This is a serious public safety hazard. It could have caused us to wreck or a truck to rear end us and should I have contacted the Ford dealer then? I believe and investigation should take place before someone does gets hurt or killed. Again, there was no warning before this happened. The car is requiring a complete transmission to the sum of $5,382. 00. I will have the receipt as soon as it's repaired. I cannot explain a cause other than an internal failure, as the Ford service man quoted. The car has 96,000 miles. Thank you for your assistance. Please do not hesitate to contact me regarding any questions. Sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

After driving for a while (roughly a few hours) the Edge does this hard jerk forward that feels like I'm practically being rear ended. It's like a hard pause, before it jerks forward. Then it gradually accelerates. Also, on a few occasions, while pulling out of a parking lot, the Edge did not want to accelerate though I was pressing on the gas. Mind you, I wasn't going fast because I had barely pulled out of the parking stall when this occurred. It barely accelerated then gradually came to a complete stop while in drive. This has also happened while I was exiting the freeway once. I initially thought my battery was the problem, but I had it replaced the following morning. I took it to the dealership and I was told nothing was wrong with it. This was the same response I got when I've taken it to Ford during the term of my warranty. I have noticed that if the "check engine light" isn't on, nor if you're not paid out of pocket, Ford does not recognize a problem. This problem is quite worrisome considering I'd hate to be stranded with my children in an intersection. I live in a very town (los angeles county) where traffic is steady and aggressive so knowing this problem can happen anytime is unsettling, especially because I have been rear ended once for not being able to proceed with traffic at a green light. 2008 Ford Edge, purchase in 2012.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2016

Turned on car and put it in reverse then drive when pulling out of parking lot,. Transmission made a loud "clunk". Pressed hard on gas but car would barely crawl. Speedometer stopped working rpms would increase dramatically, wrench, check engine, airbag, and tire pressure lights all came on. Continuing on city street problem remained. Car eventually gained enough speed that rpms went down, but the speedometer still did not work. The next day, the problem disappeared except check engine light remains on.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2016

Wrench appeared on dash. Car went into "limp mode" would not accelerate rapidly. Speedometer would not register.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2016

While driving on a city road the car would not move when given gas. Multiple lights went on the dash board. Very dangerous situation because the car literally just stopped accelerating while in motion. Mechanic diagnosed problem as a faulty output speed sensor in the transmission. This is an on going issue that many Ford Edge owners are experiencing but Ford is not acknowledging the problem. There should be a recall as this is a very dangerous issue. I should also be reimbursed by Ford for the repair.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2016

My Edge started slipping when placed in drive so I would turn it off and turn it on until the slipping stopped after I placed it in a gear. After checking for recalls I saw several other owners complain about the same issue. The odometer screed did similar check as others coming up with dashes and cycling and checking through processes. The car was recently driven and the same slipping happened but this time it caused internal damage to the transmission. Most of the complaints I've read are in the same mileage range.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2016

Same complaints as plenty of others. Driving on the freeway at 65 mph and the dashboard lights up with error*, the little screwdriver light came on, shows low tire pressure, the seatbelt/airbag light came on and the odometer stayed at zero. I couldn't accelerate and when I parked it, restarted it and tried to change gears it shook the car so hard and was so loud it could be heard inside the building. Something is terribly wrong with this model / year of vehicle and nothing is being done about it. This is the second time it has happened to my car. The first time it reset itself so the dealership couldn't find anything wrong with it. So now if I pay to have it towed to a shop and it resets itself before they can figure out what the problem is, which is looks as if nobody can figure it out, then its wasted money on a tow and a huge risk that this happening again. This is extremely dangerous and I'm in shock to see how many other people have experienced this and nothing has been done. As soon as I typed in "odo error" in google it auto filled my exact car - I didn't even have to type it, so even google knows this is a major malfunction.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2016

While driving on city street came to stop at stop sign went to proceed vehicle would not move check engine light on air bag light on no odo data where odometer mileage should be rolled car to curb no response from transmission hut off car waited a min or two restarted car back to normal advised dealer took car in a day later after 2 days of test driving car had same issue for them dealer retrieved problem code p0722 found both oss and tss sensors shorted both sensors replaced car ok now cost $835. 00 this is a safety issue that should be fixed by recall before someone hurt or killed thank god I was on city street at time of issue not on highway dealer would not test on highway did not want to have to pay for tow truck.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

The car jerks into gear in drive and reverse. When the car is still and pushing on the gas to begin to drive, the tachometer revs past 3 and the speedometer is baring moving and the car is not accelerating. It hard shifts into gear (drive and reverse) and at times won't shift into gear at all. No acceleration in the car and very difficult to drive as shifting into gears is hard and jerks the car.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2016

Bought my 2008 Edge in 2012 and experienced issues with odo read error message and loss of power shortly there after. It happens most frequently on the freeway at higher rates of speed (60- 70 mph). I have had to pull off the freeway multiple times and restart the car. Have heard from a few that the sensors in the transmission are shorting out but have heard other things as well. Dealers refuses to look into problem and states since light is not on that they cannot read the code. This is dangerous as the vehicle is hard to keep speed and gain speed once this light comes on.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2016

Transmission, and transfer-case leaking directly on the exhaust right by the manifold and professional stated it was severe fire hazard and not drive it, and also the rear main engine oil seal is leaking. The dealership was aware of all the issues and manipulated me as a female into purchasing the vehicle. The dealership argued that they were not responsible and that I had a 3 month 3,000 mile warranty when in fact my purchase agreement stated it was as is. Which means they lied to me. The transmission shop who inspected my vehicle stated that the leaks have been ongoing for quite sometime before I even purchased the car. I just purchased this vehicle in October of 2015 and already have made six payments and now I am paying for something that I can not even drive because it was not repaired correctly the first time so it had to be returned again. It is going on the fourth week. I do have a loner but I have already spent over $300. 00 in gas. I only have one vehicle at this time and that is the Ford Edge and it is very upsetting to think that I have made 3 complaints regarding this issues to the Ford motor company about the fire hazard issue and have had no satisfaction or results other then they claim it the dealers problem. I have done numerous research about his particular vehicle, and there are thousands of issues regarding the transmission leak on the exhaust as a fire hazard. Is this going to be like general motors, and wait for someones car to actually catch fire??? or is it going to be like general motors and wait for someone to be killed before they will do anything about it? my vehicle is not the only one. There are thousands of complaints out there regarding the same exact issue. I am basically paying for a car that I cannot drive at all.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2016

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle was making an abnormal noise and shaking violently. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the coil and the powertrain control module. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximately failure mileage was 87,000. Ak.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2016

12/13/15 the first time the odo error light came on, it triggered other lights such as tire sensor, airbag deployed to come on after the odo error went away. Odometer didn't work. Turned car off,car would clunk heavily when switching gears. Took to dealer they switched out cable harness and battery. Problem went away. 1/18/16 odo error light came on along with same o other lights as before, no odometer. Vehicle would not get out of second gear,( turned off when arrived home). Next morning hard clunking into reverse just like previously vehicle in driveway no in motion. Seemed to stay in 2nd gear again. Turned into my husbands shop, garage where the vehicle seemed to be okay. Drove to work no big issues so far. Read up on line that 100's of consumers are having the same issue with the Ford Edge and the 2008 in particular seems to be the worst.
