6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2019

According to a Ford dealership the ptu (power transfer unit) on my Edge needs to be replaced. Problem is that Ford has known about this for 10 years. This issue affects model years 2007 through 2017. Is there anything that can be done from a recall perspective? I was advised not to drive with this condition. I became aware of the issue while driving around town and on the expressway. Significant vibration, grinding, and higher pitch sound while in motion.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2018

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

Hearing a "coins in a can " sound coming from the car as you are driving it. Found out it to be the power transfer unit. In doing some research on this, it looks like there are thousands of people who have complained and reported this same issue. I would like to know why there wasn't a recall created for this issue and replacement as this is a costly $2000 part. Not cost effective for our cars that are older and aren't worth but $5000 maybe.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2018

Ford Edge is having a multi year problem with the awd ptu (power transfer unit). . . Ford says that the fluid in the ptu is a lifetime fluid, meaning it doesn't ever have to be changed. . . It does not even have a drain plug. . . But it is installed very close to the exhaust system, which overheats the fluid every time it is driven. . . Eventually the fluid turns to a solid grease like gunk that wears down the gears and bearings and mechanics say can even lock up the drive system, causing an accident. Instead of a $75 lube job to replace the gear fluid, replacing the ptu costs anywhere from $1500 to several thousand dollars. My Ford Edge ptu just went bad and I'm now finding out that thousands of Edge owners are being faced with this dilemma also. . . I started to hear the gears grinding when going into a turn and eventually there was a constant grinding noise even while going forward.

10 Power Train problem

On October 25, 2018 I put my vehicle in reverse when it suddenly accelerated at a high rate of speed. It hit the curb and continued to accelerate into another parked vehicle which cause that vehicle to hit a building and then my vehicle continued in reverse and hit another car and then continued until my vehicle hit a GMC truck which finally stopped my vehicle. During this entire episode, I was unable to get control of my vehicle at no point was I able to use my brakes as they did not respond. Alf this occurred in a small commercial parking lot and all vehicles involved were stationary except mine.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2016

Dec 17,2016 a severe jerking while driving on a village main st. Wrench light came on. I stopped car, got car manual, saw that it was power train problem. I began googling and will see my mechanic on Monday. The first time this happened about 3wks ago I lost driving power and drove my wife to work on idle power. When I got home I shut off car and started again and it worked ok (except for mild jerking) until now (3wks later). My mechanic said (after 1st incident) that it was a throttle problem, although he found no code error. My wife and I love this car and so do our little niece and nephew, but it is an accident waiting to happen. We just got back from texas (4000 mi) before all this happened and everything was fine. My next step will be to write to our authorities because this seems to be a dangerous national problem. All those affected should do the same.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

Today, my wife brought her 2010 Ford Edge in for the 3rd time in a matter of 3 weeks, to the local dealership. The problem is while she is driving, the check engine light will come on and the engine will stall leaving her stranded in the middle of traffic, after a minute she can restart it but it happens shortly after that. They had replaced a sensor on the last visit but yet again today the light came back on and it stalled several times before she could get it home. This places my wife and others in traffic with her in danger as when the car stalls there is no way to warn other drivers and could cause an accident. I do not believe the dealership has any clue as to what is going on with this vehicle. I have done some research online using google and have found there are many others out there who seem to have had the same problem and no one seems to have a definite reason as to why.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2012

Car jerks and anti lock/traction control system tries to engage during turns to left pulled codes from car they were p1650 power steering ,dealer said this was tied to anti roll and also control transmission and brake system and would cost me 930. 00 to repair, next code was p1703 brake switch, then code p1780 transmission control. Its obvious Ford motor company knows theirs a problem with this type of auto. . Research on internet show this same problem since 2007 or so to present!.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

#1) this vehicle was purchased brand new in 2010 and from the beginning when I press on the accelerator pedal the car will sometimes just goes into a dead mode and does nothing for a few seconds. If I try to accelerate and the car doesn't react I sometimes have to mash on the pedal to get the car to go. This has proven to be a very serious problem when I have to merge or turn quickly out of a side street of through an intersection in a quick manner. Its as if the car has a hiccup or some type of delay from pedal to motor? #2) on another note that has to do with dashboard design ,when I turn on my turn signals the high beam will sometimes engage because the high beam switch and the turn signal switch are on the same arm and the high beam is designed to be pushed forward instead of the traditional pulled toward you to activate. This pushing motion is consistent with my hand reaching toward the turn signal in a forward motion. This occurrence is sometimes mistaken for aggressive behavior or an annoyance to oncoming traffic.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle gear shifter failed and it would not shift out of park. The gear shifter had to be placed in neutral while the vehicle was parked, to be able to shift the gear back to drive. The failure was experienced numerous times. The dealer inspected the vehicle. The brake pedal switch was replaced; however the failure was not corrected. The gear shifter does not release from park. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 3,000 and the current mileage 27,000.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

I've had the transmission violently engage while riding along at a normal steady pace. One time was on the highway going about 60mph. The peddle was solid but the car decelerated like I took my foot off the gas. About 5 seconds later the tranny slammed into gear and resumed speed. It slammed so hard it felt like we got rear ended. I immediately called the dealership and they said "if it wasn't doing something when I brought it in, they wouldn't be able to find the problem". It also happened on a backroad at 30 mph and also pulling out of a parking spot.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2010

Originally the transmission would intermittently jerk when it would down shift at low speeds, primarily going up a hill. Since that time, the transmission now intermittently slips when pulling out from a stop sign into traffic. This condition is unsafe as oncoming traffic approaches and the vehicle just barely moving. This 2010 Edge has been back to family Ford on four occasions for this condition with no resolution. During the last visit [xxx] the service manager stated Ford motor company would do nothing about the intermittent problem unless he could verify the complaint. He put between 1200 and 1500 highway miles on the vehicle at interstate speeds, even after telling him it was intermittent at lower speeds. On an intermittent basis, the transmission in this Edge still exhibits jerking when down shifting and still slips when pulling out from a stop sign.
