The contact owns a 2010 Ford Edge. The contact stated while pressing the brake pedal, the vehicle would not immediately stop causing the braking distance to be extended. The vehicle was examined by an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake booster was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 136,000.
Malfunction in the break booster has lead to improper breaking, squishy breaks, car not fully stopping. If stopped for too long using the break a drop and rise of rpms.
Our local mechanic advised us that the power brake booster was inoperable and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. He advised us to bring the vehicle to Ford for repair. He also advised us that the booster has a known defect and Ford had extended a warranty to ten years for this part. We were never notified by Ford that there was a known problem with diaphragm in the power brake booster. This was confirmed by the local Ford dealer. The vehicle is schedule to be repaired at the Ford. Dealer but we cannot bring the vehicle in for another2 weeks. The estimate just to repair this part is. $ 850. 00 and does not include any other potential damage to the brake system. According to the local Ford dealer and the original dealership they advised me that the extended warranty has expired for the brake booster and that Ford will not approve extending that warranty. I also called Ford customer service asking if they would be responsible for this repair since this was a known defect on this vehicle. This defect is definitely a safety issue but Ford is refusing to approve the repair. They are claiming that they voluntarily extended their warranty for 10 years and would have made a repair under the warranty if there was an issue with the braking system during that time period. I replied that since they never advised anyone of this defect we were disadvantaged to take actions to trade in or sell the vehicle. During the covid lock down this vehicle was hardly used and if it was driven it probably would have required a repair while under this secret warranty. The vehicle only has 50,000 miles on it, Ford has issued a case# cas33813024p7f6v3 on this matter but will not cover the repair the vehicle has been taken off the road and will have to be towed to the Ford dealership to avoid an accident. It is completely not roadworthy.
Brakes became incredibly soft. Could push brake pedal almost all the way to the floor with out slowing the vehicle. Had to leave roadway to avoid an accident. A hissing sound was heard when applying pressure to the brake pedal. This seems to be a know issue to Ford.
I needed increased effort to engage the brakes, totally lost all brake power when driving on a highway. Started out spongy and then it was like engaging a brick. Had to veer off the highway and almost caused a major accident. Brake pedal is hissing and spongy.
Replaced brakes and pads and bled the brakes twice. When I push brake pedal it feels mushy and resistant and the vehicle won’t stop. A hissing noise is made also.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the brake assist was failing due to the vehicle not braking properly. The contact stated that excessive brake pedal pressure was needed to stop the vehicle. The vehicle made an abnormal hissing sound when the brake was applied. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact referenced an unknown recall regarding the brake booster and stated that it was confirmed by the dealer that the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.
My 2010 Edge is dealing with the engine light, a wrench, and traction control lights all coming on and off whenever it feels like (in park or in any driving condition). When these lights come on I pretty much lose the ability to break on my own, it resists and grinds when breaking with the lights on. The lights can come and go for days at a time or for only a few miles. Also, the vehicle hesitates on take off when these lights are on. Code reader doesn't really tell us anything useful. If codes are cleared it eventually will come back on and continue having the same issues. This seems to be a common problem by what I'm finding, Ford should be responsible to fix this wiring/electrical issue. Another thing, the seatbelt light and alarm will not stop going off, even if you are in park for a while. I just bought this vehicle and I am far from impressed.
When you push down the brake pedal, the brakes do not engage. Two different mechanics, one at les schwab, and one at the Ford dealer have confirmed that the brake booster part no. At4z2005 is defective. Many Ford models and model years have been recalled for this same defective part. When asked, Ford has refused to replace the defective part for my vehicle. Ford reference # cas 28787275.
Power brake booster and check valve failure. Loss of brake use in vehicle while in motion on local road.
Will not stop.
I purchased the 2010 Edge from my mother in 12/ 2018 when she purchased an escape. 1. 5 years later, in mile 99,800, I had a problem with my brakes. I was coming to a stop at the end of the street onto a major road at the exit of my neighborhood. Going down a hill, I always go slowly to allow myself proper braking time, as it is a very steep hill onto a major and very busy road. I experienced a lack of brakes. I stood on them as hard as I could, and it barely slowed me down enough to prevent me from going into oncoming traffic. After I recovered my heart rate, I turned around and went home. I then brought the car to my local mechanic, he told me he was uncomfortable working on it, as he discovered an issue with this according to Ford. I then brought it to a local Ford dealership, as the Ford dealership my dad purchased the car from and all the service was done at was, was on the highway, 40 minutes away. A dangerous commute due to the intermittent lack of brakes. The bulletin/extended warranty is 13n02 extended warranty coverage on brake booster. I had the brake booster assembly fixed by the dealership, who informed me that it had a 10-year 150,000-mile service bulletin, and it is not covered. First, the car is 10 years old. Second, it was less than 100k miles on it. Also, the mileage was low, due to the little my parents drove the car. The average mileage on the car currently is 10,000 a year. I believe the issue would have exposed itself within the warranty period if the car were driven with typical mileage (over 10,000 a year). I am asking you to reimburse me for the work done on my car for this issue, as I feel that it should have been covered under your extended warranty, if not as a safety issue that could have cost me my life or major medical issues as well as a loss of or major damage to my car. The total amount including tax was $841. 43.
I was driving my 2010 Edge in stop and go traffic. The cars in front of me stoped suddenly so I slammed on my brakes. My brake pedal went all the way to the floor without stopping my vehicle. ( all of this is happening in seconds traveling about two to three car lengths)I released my foot and the brake pedal returned to a normal position. I pressed the brakes again and the pedal traveled all the way to the floorboard again without stopping my vehicle. I released pressure again and this time the pedal shot back hitting my foot with such force that it caused a lisfranc dislocation and severe bone bruising to my right foot. (I lost my job and will be unable to work for at least six months, if I am able to regain full function due to this accident . )through the pain I depressed the brakes a third time and they went to the floor again, not stopping my vehicle and resulting in my vehicle crashing into the vehicle in front of me at a relatively slow speed. The airbags did not deploy.
Noticed a week ago there was a hissing noise while pushing in on the brakes and the brakes were extremely hard to push in on to get the vehicle to come to a stop. Took to our local shop and was informed we needed a new brake booster and this vehicle was not safe to drive and costed us $860. 42 to get repaired. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly; 4 - VIN corrected, error in one position only (indicated by ! in suggested VIN), multiple matches found; 14 - unable to provide information for all the characters in the VIN. #vpic#.

My Ford Edge brakes are frequently hard to apply, like the booster is not working, then they suddenly apply as if the booster has started working. Thisisvery unsafe to drive because it's sudden and unexpected. Also the normal two or three booster applications that normally apply do not work. I called wittmeir Ford in chico and they said my VIN # was not covered under the extended warming.
I bought this vehicle from a Ford dealership in 2011 and it has barely 76000 miles and since may 2019 it's been failing the break booster that's what the mechanic said and it's very dangerous I can't stop the vehicle even a lower speed, the break pedal is hard to press its very dangerous!! even having 2 kids on the car very unsafe to drive at this point. I hope you can help us.

Brakes are making hissing noise and almost wrecked my Edge due to not being able to push the brake pedal down. No warnings on dash. This needs to be a recall from Ford to replace the brake boosters on all 2010 Edges no matter the mileage. I know there is a TSB out for this to replace this part for 10 yrs or 150k miles, but needs to be extended as this is a major safety issue. Can we say Ford pinto part 2??.

Vehicle has major abs problems witch also affects the traction control. Vehicle randomly does not respond to braking at various speeds. Ford needs to stand behind their product and fix this problem before someone gets hurt as a result. I bought this SUV for my wife and kids it only has 100k. It shouldn't be having these issues.
Front brakes hiss and make singing squeal. . . Do not depress fully then go all the way to the floor. Almost hit 5 cars but each time steered off right and ended up mid intersection on a red light. Heard it is a power booster issue. Also air bags were recalled. Dealer says no.

After noticing something terribly wrong with my brakes, brakes were hard to push and was taking longer to stop. I took car into shop and was told it was the power brake booster and that Ford had issued a recall on it. I then took it to a Ford dealer where they charged me $62 to tell me that my car wasn't covered. If Ford knows there's a defect in the boosters then why won't they fix the problem?.
