2 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2020

Replaced rotors, calipers, pads on all 4 wheels after loss of most of the pedal while driving in city traffic. Brakes were also due for replacement. Bled brake system according to owners manual and still no pedal. Limped the car to the dealer who advised that the master cylinder had to be replaced. Also noted that the brake booster would be replaced under that extended warranty. This appears to be a common problem on these vehicles. Most certainly a safety issue.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2020

Since I purchase 2011 Ford Edge from my dealer in babylon NY . I have issues with electrical, loss of power during winter, and the worse has been the brakes, master cylinder to brakes keep failing and I never no even I change my brakes when they can fail . I am scared of driving this unsafe vehicle. My dealer does not respond to my vehicle.

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2020

When depressng the brake, the brake was soft and went to the floor. Pumping the brakes helped stopped the car. This occurred intermittently. The Ford Edge has approximately 94,000 miles on it. Brought the car in to have the brake issue fixed and the master cylinder was replaced. A week later the same issue of a soft brake pedal occurred while driving. Brought the car back into the shop and they believe it may be the hcu, we have been told that the part is on back order. We have to wait a month for the part to come in to see if this will resolve the problem. The car is now not being driven.

5 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2020

My vehicle's brakes went all the way to the floorboard before coming to a stop. The pressure in the brakes would leave immediately so I took it to my mechanic and they replaced the master cylinder. Two months later, the same thing happened again where all the pressure of the brakes are gone and the brakes barely stop the car so I took it again to the mechanic and they replaced the master cylinder and still the brake pressure won't hold so they said it might have to do with the abs system. They were surprised that there is no recall on the brake system because it seems like so many other people are dealing with the faulty system that keeps breaking the master cylinder. The abs system is very expensive to fix too. I don't feel safe in my car anymore, the brakes can give out anytime while I'm driving and Ford could care less.

6 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2020

The problem started with an occasionally stiff brake pedal. This was in February 2015 with 59,554 miles on the car. The Ford dealership replaced the brake booster under customer satisfaction program 13n02. Then in may 2016 with 74,029 miles on the car the problem returned even worse. This time the pedal would not only be stiff at start up but would also become stiff while driving and was accompanied by a high pitched ringing noise. The dealership replaced the brake booster again but this time the cost was placed on me. Now here we are in July 2020 with approximately 110,000 miles on the vehicle the stiff pedal problem has been coming up again and has progressed to the brake pedal going to the floor while driving with greatly reduced braking power. The Ford dealership again says that the brake booster is part of the problem, along with the master cylinder. The dealer & Ford motor CO. Both state that the cost of replacing their faulty parts is my responsibility. Ford obviously has not fixed the problem with their brake boosters.

7 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2020

Brakes are so hard, the car does not brake easily. It makes a sound like a wind is blowing. I took it to the Ford dealer and they said the problem probably is the brake booster. But after they do an inspection they find out the problem is the master cylinder and hcu. So they said the cost is around $1,300 this is to expensive this must be a recall. . I saw many cases with this same problem. . Also Ford charge $149 for inspection. .

8 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2020

Ongoing problems with brakes dating back to 2014 at 77k miles. Took vehicle to a. C. Collins Ford and complained about brake pedal becoming stiff and feeling like it was not going to stop, I. E. At stop sign in slow traffic. Brake booster was replaced per recall notice 13n02. After some time, early 2016, began to experience spongy brake pedal with extended stopping distance. Marler Ford recommended replacement of brake booster, no active recall at that time. Repair was not done and car blew a head gasket shortly thereafter. Fast forward to September 2019 and motor replacement, had mechanic look at brakes because of past issues. He replaced master cylinder, abs control module, & brake pads. Now, 2/2020, vehicle is drinking brake fluid and mechanic advises replacement of brake booster. . . . Again. Very disappointed in the quality of parts in this Ford vehicle. First and last Ford for me.

10 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2019

My brakes have become very squishy and barely stopping NY car. I hit the brakes hard in traffic on the highway and the car barely stopped. You have to press the peddle clear to the floor for any reaction. Took to shop. Replaced the master cylinder and the brake booster and the lroblem continues. The shop isn't sure what could be the problem. After internet research it appears there is a module problem and this is been happening with this year of Edge very frequently. This is a very dangerous situation and needs adressed!.

11 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle went to the floorboard to slow and stop the vehicle. 12 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2019

When driving, at any speed, brake pedal intermittently/randomly becomes soft, and goes to the floor when depressed, with little to no reduction in speed. Pumping the brakes is required in order to stop. There is no associated noise, as some have reported (such as hissing or sucking air). The mechanic is unable to accurately diagnose or duplicate the issue at this time. He reports that it could be the master cylinder or the hcu/abs module, but at this time we'd just be throwing parts at a problem. No trouble codes are present and all brake system pressures were normal during his troubleshooting. Current mileage is 108,000. This is my wife's car, and she regularly transports our kids in it, so to have this type of failure present with relatively few miles is disconcerting.

13 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While, driving at low speeds the brake pedal was spongy and depressed almost to the floor. 14 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2019

In July 2017, experienced hard to press brakes with hissing noise, warranty extension provided to replace brake booster, 27 months later, similar issue, brakes work but pedal continues to floor. Recommeneded master cylinder replacement by dealership and independent mechanic, replaced and still having the same issue - diagnosis is that it is again brake booster which was only covered for a single repair and warrantied for 12 months. No recourse from Ford despite many reports of this issue from other customers, expensive and dangerous failure.

The vehicle was taken to george waikem Ford (located at 4321 Lincoln way e, massillon, OH 44646, (330) 478-1801) where it was diagnosed that there was total brake system failure due to a failure of the hydraulic pump, brake master cylinder, and hydraulic control unit. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

17 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2019

When applying the brakes the brake pedal sinks to the floor and is hesitant to stop completely. I have had the master cylinder changed, the abs pump has been replaced and the vehicle had the brake booster replaced around 1 year ago due to a Ford recall. This vehicle has been in the shop for 3 weeks now and the mechanic cannot seem to fix this issue. This seems to be a well known problem with the brake system for this vehicle and is dangerous to the occupants of the vehicle and others in the surrounding areas. This issue has the potential for random brake loss which can occur in injury or death.

18 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2019

Driving on city streets 35-45mph when I had to apply the brake. Brakes felt spongey (no anti lock feel) and the pedal went almost to the floor. This originally occurred mid February 2019, but corrected itself after letting the car sit overnight. It occurred again late March 2019 and this time the condition persisted and made me feel that the brakes could ultimately fail. I checked online and found multiple mentions of this issue with Ford Edges, but no formal recall - which the dealership later verified. My vehicle is a 2011 with 135,000 miles. The vehicle has had all of its required/recommended maintenance and is in good condition otherwise. The diagnosis was as follows - "found the master with leak and hcu/abs seeping and dump valve, e on found brakes bypassing". The dealer replaced the control and module and also recommended that I replace the master cylinder, which I agreed to allow. Expensive repair - just a bit past $1900 with parts and labor.

19 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2019

I have problems with the abs sensor. When you hit a big bump or when you brake on ice the brakes shutter & the brake pedal goes to the floor unable to stop. Usually I can pump them & I get brakes back. Now I can't pump them up, I call it a soft brake, I can not stop fast if a vehicle stops fast in front of me. I was told from my mechanic that it needs abs hcu unit & master cylinder changed. He also told me that they frequently have calls from Ford owners that have Edge & fusion with the same issue of loosing their brakes, in fact they take bets on how many calls they will get on a snow day or rainy day. I can't believe there hasn't been a recall on this, it is extremely dangerous.

20 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2018

Thanksgiving time (2018) applied brakes, (2011 Ford Edge with 105,000 miles), went to floor barley stopping. Almost plowed into car in front of us. Scared crap out of us. Never did this before!!! had car towed to local shop. Put on new master cylinder. Three weeks later brakes go to floor and very poor stopping. Towed to local shop and yet a second master cylinder installed. One week later, poor stopping yet once again. Few feet from plowing into garage wall. All occasions the vehicle was traveling at a good rate of speed, only to find out no stopping petal. Had to rapidly pump spongey petal to hope it stops. After fixing, worked somewhat normally, but reverts back to spongey petal and scary situation as if is it going to stop. (note, no abs pulsating at any time!) once again back to shop. I consult youtube and find a video where a Ford expedition had same exacting problem as mine. Determined to be the abs control module. Not a master cylinder. (and not a brake booster where petal is hard. )there is a hydraulic version (available through Ford) and an electronic version (no longer available anywhere including Ford) abs control module. So a eight year old car with 105,000 miles cannot be repaired as the demand on this part is apparently so great it has exhausted stock and cannot be replaced with a new part. In closing, the only way to repair the vehicle is to find a junkyard donor vehicle and hope that parts will not fail. But chances are that it too, will eventually fail. I believe that the ntsb needs to investigate this dangerous safety defect. Abs is supposed to help prevent accidents, not create them. Please consider. Also, feel as though I should be reimbursed for my out of pocket costs on this too. Well over $1000. Thanks (xxxx)consult youtube sinking/spongy brake petal- with abs system published by (xxxx). 21 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2018

I've had several breaking issues since buying the car earlier 2018. I wish I would have researched the brake issues with the 2011 Edge I would have chose a different vehicle. It was very slick out and my husband slid through a stop light when the brakes failed. They were soft and spongy and went straight to the floor. We change the brake pads paid a mechanic to change the master cylinder not once but twice because we continue to have soft brakes. Had a mechanic bleed the brakes saying are was in the lines still an issue. The booster has been replaced with the recall and they will not replace it a second time. Now they want to replace the hydraulic control unit. The quote is $1,650. My husband has been scared to death to drive the vehicle and I am not allowed due to the faulty braking. We have ran off the road twice by people stopping suddenly and not being able to break.

22 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2018

Driving vehicle and brakes went to the floor. Ford dealer had it for 7 days and said they couldn't make the car brakes fail. Pedal was good and couldn't do the extended warranty on the brake booster. I took car to another Ford dealer and he said he would fix it under the extended warranty recall. They had it for 7 days and told me the parts are ordered and they said they fixxed it brake booster installed. No paper work to sign you are good to go. 1 week later no brakes again they said it needed a brake master cylinder, put it on and 1 week later no brakes. Called back the dealer and the service rep says he couldn't find where the brake booster had been replaced. He made an appointment to see the car and when we got there they had no record of an appointment and said mike doesn't work here anymore. Still car has no brakes at pedal sometimes you can pump the pedal to get some brakes. Brakes have been bled etc.

23 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2018

I nearly rear ended a semi truck at a high rate of speed due to extremely weak brake pressure. Had to swerve off road and use parking brake to stop. Ford issued recall 13n02 for the brake booster claiming that a symptom of a failed booster is a spongy brake pedal. The dealer contradicts this by saying a failed booster would result in a stiff pedal. I had my vehicle inspected at wray Ford in bossier city and they are telling me that it's the master cylinder and hydraulic control unit and that it's not covered under the recall. After doing some research this is a very common problem with this vehicle. It seems that Ford may have gotten the original recall wrong or they need to issue a new recall for the master cylinder and hydraulic control unit.

24 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2018

After breaking somewhat hard to avoid an incident the break pedal was incredibly "spongy" and would need to go to the floor to engage the breaks. Two mechanic shops, other than the dealership, inspected and determined that the power booster may be the issue an informed us that there was a recall 13n02 for this vehicle. Took it to the dealership where they determined it was the master cylinder and not the power booster. Then they claimed it was the hydraulic control unit and that needed to be replaced. Over $1000 later the problem was solved. After reviewing several complaints online about the hcu it appears that this device is faulty and is acknowledged by Ford however they have failed to issue an important recall. Apparently the algorithm for a recall has not been met with faulty units. This faulty device needs to have a class action established to cover the faulty devices and fix the issue and not to mention the reimbursement to the consumer.

25 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2018

Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor before stopping. This is the second time the brakes have failed in traffic. Brake master cylinder replaced at 58k, brake booster replaced at 32k. Current mileage is 65k. Dealership unable to find problem.

26 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2018

While driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed to slow the vehicle down, but the vehicle failed to stop. The contact had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard to completely stop the vehicle. The failure occurred without warning! master cylinder had to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure still recurred.

27 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2017

When we returned from vacation we noticed the brake petal was sinking to the floor. The car would take a bit to come to a stop. At one point I was at a complete stop at a light. The petal sank and the car rolled forward and into the bumper of the car in front of me (no injuries). We changed the brake fluid and bled them many times. We researched on what might be wrong. Ultimately I found that Ford would replace the brake booster due to some sort of recall. They replaced it and said that the car still had the same problem. They said to replace the master cylinder, which they quoted $890 for. They also charged me $190 to do further inspection. We took the car home and ordered a master cylinder for about $80. We put in the master cylinder ourselves. We bench bled the cylinder and once it was installed we bled the brakes on 5 separate occasions, about 10 mins on each wheel. The pedal was still sinking. We had a mechanic come out to check our work. He said that everything we did was fine and he bled the brakes multiple times. Still sinking pedal. He concluded that we may have purchased a faulty cylinder. I took it to 2 other mechanics, firestone and big o tires, they both said it would have to be the master cylinder. So. . . I ordered another cylinder. We had a mechanic come out to install. Still. . . Sinking pedal. He said that it might be the abs system, which I suspected. He also said that it may be that Ford would need to use some special tool that only they have to reset something or other. So I finally gave in and took it back to Ford. They told me that the hydraulic control unit had failed, and quoted $2042. 50 to replace it, $1400 of that is just labor. The Ford rep said that only Ford service departments can fix this issue, because they have the correct tools for it.

28 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2017

Brake pedal going down to the floor. This has been happening intermittently for the past year. Usually is noticed when needing to take evasive action while on the road. I've had car into the dealership and have had all brakes replaced, along with the master cylinder, and brake booster. The problem still persisted and am now told to have the hydraulic control unit replaced. From what I've read this is a problem with a number of Ford models.

29 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2017

30 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2017

It started having problems with the breaks a couple of weeks ago when in the middle of the road the cars brakes failed and when all the way to the end of the pedal. First, I changed the rotors and pedals but it continued to had a problem, went to a pepboys where it was diagnosed a master cylinder problem. Ordered the part and went to the dealer in mayaguez Ford in puerto rico where they installed the part and they told me it had a recall for the booster of the brakes, installed it free of charge, but the same day they changed the parts, I still had the same problems with no brakes for a couple of minutes and then it stabilized. It happens a couple of times a day. Don't know what to do next.

32 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2015

I had lost my brakes in sept, 2015. Had new rotors and pads put on, then noticed that they were going to floor with hissing noise, had 2 brand new master cylinders put on, still no change in brakes, then had them replace brake booster the beginning of Dec, 2015. No change in brakes, they still go to floor, I have put a lot of money into dead end repairs. Ford garage wants another $100 diagnostic fee?? for what? I have gotten no answers, no help. I called Ford who stated that they will communicate with the tech. The techs are saying they have never seen this before, and that the booster should of fixed problem. I have not had my vehicle more than I have. Borrowing cars, etc. Any help?? suggestions?.
