The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the brakes failed to engage and was difficult to depress. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
While driving the vehicle on a city street came to a stop light went to push the brake pedal and it felt like the vehicle had no brakes and was not stopping. Pushed the pedal all the way to the floor and the vehicle finally came to a stop. The brake pedal felt extremely hard to push to get the brakes to stop the vehicle. Took the vehicle to the Ford dealership and they found the brake booster failed. The vehicle only has 33,874 miles currently on it.
Brake booster needed to be replaced at 20,239 miles. Less than 2 years later the replacement brake booster failed and had to be replaced at 42,480 miles. It seems every 2 years or 20,000 miles the brake booster fails. Fortunately when the brakes failed, it was right after start up and backing out of parking spaces. The pedal became stiff with no stopping power. I had the booster replaced in both instances immediately after the first symptoms of failure occurred. Fortunately the failures did not occur while on city streets or highways. There was a recall on the 2011 thru 2013 Ford Edge models. You may consider including the 2014 Edge for a recall as well.
