1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2025

Loss of power.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2025

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at slower speeds, the vehicle hesitated while accelerating with the accelerator pedal depressed, and the vehicle to respond as needed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of fuel, with an abnormal burning metal odor entering the cabin of the vehicle through the air vents. The contact scanned the vehicle with an obd-2 scanner and retrieved error codes for the power control module, steering column control module, and power train control module. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was unknown because the contact had previously cleared the error codes twice. The contact related the failure to manufacturer recall: 24e10; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2024

The power take off assembly (ptu) failed. I had it replaced a a Ford dealership with a genuine Ford ptu. After driving less than 125 miles the ptu failed again and my right front half shaft disengaged without notice on the high when traveling at highway speeds. Upon return to the dealership they noted that the ptu failed and it was replaced at no cost. However, they charged me for the replacement of the right front axel. I contacted Ford customer service and contend that recall 14s10 should apply especially after the new ptu failed. They denied my claiming stating that the dealership claimed a torn cv boot was the cause of my axel disengaging. However there was no mention of a torn cv boot in the dealerships multipoint inspection of my vehicle when originally brought in. Ford customer service and the dealership denied my claim.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2024

See attached document for complaint.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2023

The rear differential has failed. It started to fail at 80,000 miles. The car now has a little over 91,000 miles. It makes a whining/grinding noise at over 30 miles per hour. It was subtle at first but has become much louder recently. If this had failed completely while on the highway going 55 mph or higher, this could have resulted in complete loss of control of the vehicle. Additionally, oil or parts could have been left on the highway becoming a hazard for other drivers. The local mechanic confirmed that this is the part that needs replacing. There were no warning lights or messages at all. This is a major part of the drivetrain and there are many people on the internet complaining about premature failure of the differential on the Ford Edge and Lincoln mkx. I am surprised there has not been a recall on this already. Please look into it.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2023

Pulled out of a parking lot onto a busy street locally, car lost power and the orange wrench light came on. Would not go, all the car did was jerk and sputter. Engine did not shut off but would only coast/roll into the middle lane and managed to coast/roll into another business parking lot next door to where I pulled out from and once parked, I turned ignition off and back on. Wrench light went out and car started. No codes were apparently shown when hooked up to the machine at the car lot the next day (wrench light was still off) this is very scary and very dangerous whatever it is, it needs investigated and fixed so us Ford Edge drivers can feel safe when driving. Also 1 week before this my check engine light came on, same code 3 times came up for eval, emissions ect. . . Now no codes are showing since the wrench light came on Sunday and my car stopped moving.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2022

Upon stopping at intersection I began to accelerate to proceed through intersection and no warning light on dash came on as my vehicle wouldn’t go into drive. It barely rolled through and off to shoulder. When I tried to shift into park it wasn’t engaging or something, it just wouldn’t do anything so I lulled the engine and used emergency brake. This could have been a very big tragedy at this or any similar situation.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

This has happened twice on my 2014 Ford Edge. Vehicle goes into limp mode without warning. Did not catch the message, was too busy trying not to get hit. No error codes found. Vehicle restarts and works fine after a short period of sitting. There are multiple reports of this going back 10+ years online. Ford says there is no problem. Computer chip failure? first failure was approximately 10 months ago -.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2022

Damaged antifreeze pump this can cause a very severe overheating on the road, transfer box and transmission make a very uncomfortable noise when turning to both sides I don't feel safe when handling rear differential the same problem (I've already replaced it).

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2022

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated upon parking the vehicle in the driveway and releasing the ignition key. The message “transmission not in park” was displayed; even though the gear shifter was in park(p). The contact then moved the gear shifter in and out of park(p) several times until the shift indicator showed that the vehicle was in park(p). The contact stated that the failure had been recurred each time she parked the vehicle. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2022

The vehicle began emitting a strong smell intermittently, which was later determined to be gear oil from the transfer case dripping down. After the smell was originally noted the car was driven only at low speeds and short distance to get repaired. The car was not able to be put into reverse. Eventually, the car began to make a grinding sound while steering and stopping. Luckily after the strong smells started the car was never driven over 35mph and was only driven for a short distance. I could only imagine if the car was going at highway speeds. This is putting customer's safety at risk. This is a dangerous situation and needs to be resolved. No warning lights illuminated during this ordeal. I was told by the mechanic that the transfer case "blew up" and would need to be replaced. The car has less than 48,000 miles on it and has always been kept in a garage and up to date on service.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2022

The rear differential went in the car at only 100,000 miles.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2021

The following happens roughly a few times a month but cannot be reproduced intentionally…. I pull into my garage, or a parking space, etc and put the car in park, the dashboard shows a p for park but it also shows a message that says car needs to be in park in order to shut off (something a long these lines…) so I have to jiggle it for a few seconds for it to register that it’s in park. It also starts paddle shifting by itself while I am driving!!! I believe what is happening is related to the existing recalls (20v692000 & 14v393000) on Edge’s, but does not include my VIN. Please help!.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2021

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and making a turn, the rear end of the vehicle made abnormal sounds. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that the halfshaft of the vehicle had detached from the transaxle. And the failure was related to the recall for NHTSA campaign number: 14v393000 (power train). The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that his vehicle could not be repaired under the recall for NHTSA campaign number: 14v393000 (power train) as his VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2021

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 65 mph, the vehicle loss motive power and decelerated. The contact's husband pulled over to an exit ramp where the vehicle stalled. The contact and her husband exited the vehicle and pushed the vehicle to a rest stop. The contact's husband waited for a moment to restart the vehicle and continued driving to his residence. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact's husband took vehicle to an unknown dealer to be diagnosed which was still pending. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2020

I had sent you a complaint about my vehicle. Complaint number 11384259 stating the vehicle cpu was defective. What I meant to say was "the ptu unit is defective"{ power take off unit. }. Thank you and I apologize for the mistake.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2020

Power transfer unit leaking after 80,000 miles, had the vehicle serviced to replace ptu and new ptu is also leaking. Other driving issues have occurred since including losing power steer capability on while driving at low speeds on uneven roads, unable to accurately recreate the issue as it is very intermittent. All check engine lights, wrench, and advancetrac dashboard warnings flash when electrical and propulsion systems malfunction.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2020

My vehicle lost power. A wrench icon appeared on the dash. I was entering a gas station so the car was in motion and I was able to park. I looked it up and found out it was a throttle body failure. . I had it towed to a Ford dealer. I didnt trust to drive it. Ford could not duplicate the issue but the code was retained. P2111. The issue was not covered under the recall which was disappointing. If it's a known issue it shouldnt matter the yr and VIN#. It's a dangerous issue. It was covered under my extended warranty luckily and was repaired.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2020

Vehicle losses power while traveling on highway and city street. Must pulll over and restart the vehicle. No set speed. Press the accelerator pedal vehicle creeps along. Very concerned with the safwty of the vehicle traveling along the highway. Have spoken with the dealer and twehy are looking into it.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2020

I was parked with the car on for about 15 minutes when out of no where the power train malfunction/reduced power light came on. The SUV has a loud clunk sounds when I try to move it. This is the second time this has happened within 2 years. The first time I was driving and get stranded on the road.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2020

Power take off assembly failed according to the service department this is a major problem with this particular vehicle and they can randomly fail regardless of mileage and can actually explode and wipe the transmission out and if that was to happen while driving could be disastrous on the highway but fortunately that did not happen but could have Ford needs to recall and fix this issue.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle's throttle failed and the gas pedal ceased to operate as needed. The wrench warning light illuminated when the failure occurred. The contact pulled the vehicle over the side and restarted the vehicle. Once the vehicle was restarted, the vehicle resumed normal driving. The contact stated the failure occurred intermittently and that the check engine warning light had steadily illuminated. The dealer(russ milne Ford 24777 hall rd, macomb, mi 48042 888-875-0668) was notified of the failure and was told that the vehicle was not under warranty. The manufacturer was also notified and offered no further assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 54,000. Jo.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2019

Pulled into a parking stop at the grocery store; went to put my car in park, shifter went into park, on the dash it was saying I was in reverse. The car was definitely in reverse. Was not able to push in the shifter button to change gears or move the shifter at all. You were able to manually change the gears within the engine, but not with the shifter.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2019

I noticed oil on my garage floor from my wife's Ford Edge. I took it in to my local Ford dealer and was told I need a new p t u. This SUV only has 64,000 and some miles. I had the part replaced to the tune of $2100. 00 plus. I have since found out that this is a common part to go bad on the Ford Edge. I feel this part is defective in design or defective because the parts are not built strong enough to do the job. Ford knows there is a problem with the p t u but will not offer any help to the consumer.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle decelerated and the wrench icon indicator illuminated. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and restarted. The vehicle was taken to mac haik Ford (972-223-8050, located at 515 s interstate 35 east service rd, desoto, TX 75115) where the technician stated that there was no failure with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2019

I had been driving for about 40 minutes around 35 miles per hr, on a street. I slowed down to change lanes to enter the freeway ramp. Then while the vehicle was in motion, it would began to slow down and lose power. The wrench icon appeared, but was able to steer, around a few feet, into a service station . The vehicle came to a complete stop. I kept the engine running but there was no acceleration. When pressing the accelerator there was no activity. I placed the vehicle in park and turned off the ignition. Maybe one minute later, I restarted the engine. The vehicle started right up. The accelerator worked properly. Instead of entering the freeway I took another route home, which was about 15 miles away. I had the vehicle taken to a Ford dealership the next day which was 4/11/2019. After inspecting it,Ford stated they could not identify any problems. I have around 76,000 miles on the vehicle. I am very much afraid to drive this vehicle, because of the safety danger that it pose. I am returning it back to Ford for further inspection. I did not receive any warning before the vehicle loss acceleration. I would not have been able to avoid a crash, if there would have been the usual traffic or if I would have entered the freeway as planned.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. When making a turn, the vehicle would not accelerate and the service advancetrac warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing the same failure as listed in NHTSA campaign number: 14v393000 (power train). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

Car lost all driving function while in motion on a city street. It basically died. The shifter always shows an error of "not in park" when the car is in fact in park.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2018

Vehicle was in motion, I was driving down the highway at 60 mph, I went to change lanes and the vehicle suddenly loses power, goes into limp home mode, the wrench appears on the dash and I must pull off to the emergency shoulder. The vehicle was towed in to Ford, where they explained my throttle body was bad and needed to be replaced.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

The power train malfunction light came on while driving. I was on the interstate going around 75 mph and on 3 lanes of heavy morning commute traffic. When the power train light came on, I lost the ability to use the gas and could not accelerate. I did have the ability to brake. I had to get to the side of the road quickly despite the heavy traffic. I stopped on the side of the road, turned the car off and back on. Once turning off and on, the power train light was no longer illuminated and I was able to drive again. The cause of the fault in unknown.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2018

When putting the vehicle in park it does not register the park position. After turning it off it pulled forward, but normally it will stay parked. I have a video of the park not engaging, but it is bigger than 5 mb. It has been happening for about 2-3 weeks, will be taking it to the dealership.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2018

I've noticed over the course of the past 2 years that the transmission slams into gear between 1st and 2nd causing the car to jerk. This has happened approx. 12 times that I can recall. It usually occurs between 10 mph and 20 mph.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2018

On April 3, 2018, my wife was driving our 2014 Ford Edge. As she was entering a curve at 35 mph, the low oil pressure light came on and she immediately lost the capability to easily turn the steering wheel, and the car began to slow down rapidly. Fortunately, she was not on a freeway or she could have been seriously injured or killed. She realized that even though the engine was still running, the gas pedal would not work. I called planet Ford in houston where we purchased the car and I routinely have the car maintained. Anthony, the quick lane manager, told me to bring the car in. By then, we had checked the internet for similar occurrences and we had found that there had been thousands of similar reports and millions of dollars paid by Ford in lawsuits. Anthony told me that he would fix the car at no cost after I explained the details and told him that this should have been a recall issue. They had serviced the car less one month earlier. On Tuesday, April 10th, I called and found that the car had been moved to the regular service area. It still was not fixed. Brad zook, the service manager, told me that I was going to have to pay for the repair even though I told him that anthony said it would be free. Later that day, it was repaired and we picked up the car. They had to replace the etb which is exactly what the internet referred to. I called brad on Wednesday and asked how they diagnosed the problem. He said it was a combination of codes (strange) and my description of the problem. How do I know that this won't happen again, or some other malfunction that wasn't a recall, will happen next!?.
